"Master Jiang! You're awake! How do you feel?" Director Li asked with concern.
"Much better, thank you for your care, Director Li," Jiang Tao replied with a smile. "Is the machine running smoothly?"
"Smooth! It's running perfectly!" Chief Engineer Zhang interjected excitedly. His gaze towards Jiang Tao had shifted from skepticism to admiration. "Master Jiang, could you check if there's anything wrong with our installation? That gear... it's simply a work of art! The precision and strength are perfect! Us old technicians have studied it for half a day and still can't figure out how you made it!"
Jiang Tao naturally wouldn't reveal the secret of his ability; he merely waved his hand modestly. "Just got lucky, and I've tinkered with materials and precision machining before. It was a coincidence. I don't see any issues with the installation; I trust your skills, Chief Engineer Zhang. As long as you maintain and lubricate it regularly, it should last a long time."
"More than just luck! You're turning the mundane into the extraordinary!" Director Li exclaimed, pulling out a thick envelope from his pocket and pressing it into Jiang Tao's hands without hesitation. "Master Jiang! We can't thank you enough! This is just a small token of appreciation from our factory's party committee and all the staff. You must accept it! This is just an advance payment; once we complete this batch of export orders successfully, there will be even more rewards!"
Jiang Tao weighed the envelope in his hands; it contained at least several hundred or even over a thousand yuan! In the early 1980s, this was an enormous sum! Or perhaps you'd like to come work as our deputy chief engineer? The terms are absolutely negotiable!"
Chief Engineer Zhang nodded vigorously beside him. "Yes, Master Jiang! With you here, we feel secure!"
Faced with the enthusiastic invitation from the two leaders, Jiang Tao felt a stir in his heart but politely declined. "Thank you both for your kindness. However, I'm used to a laid-back life; running a small shop suits me just fine. No need for consulting fees—if there are any insurmountable problems with your equipment in the future, just give me a call if I can help. As for daily maintenance, I think the technicians under Chief Engineer Zhang are quite capable; I can share some experience with them."
He didn't want to be tied down by one organization completely, but maintaining a good relationship with a leading enterprise like City Textile Factory was crucial for his future development.
Seeing Jiang Tao's firm stance, Director Li and Chief Engineer Zhang felt some regret but admired his integrity even more.
