Having purchased the property and land, Jiang Tao felt a sense of relief as he completed the first step of his "Prepare for a Rainy Day" plan. However, he did not allow himself to become complacent. On the contrary, the increasingly fierce market competition and rapidly changing trends kept him on high alert.
This was especially true for his core business of repair and renovation, where new challenges were becoming increasingly prominent. One day, Old Master Liu approached Jiang Tao in his office, where he was studying how to dismantle and utilize a batch of old electric motors he had recently acquired. Liu held several repair registration forms in his hands, looking somewhat helpless.
"Boss, take a look at these orders..." Old Liu handed the forms to Jiang Tao. "They've all come in recently. One is a 'Sony' color television that has color distortion; another is a 'Power' brand twin-tub washing machine with a non-spinning drum; and there's also a 'Sharp' tape recorder that plays sound but won't record. Wang Hao and I took a look at them, and we could roughly identify the issues, but... the parts inside are too complicated. Many are integrated circuits that we've never seen before, and we don't have any replacement parts. We really don't dare to take them apart."
Jiang Tao examined the forms and listened carefully as Old Liu described the faults. His brow furrowed slightly. This kind of situation had been occurring more frequently lately.
With the improvement in living standards and the gradual opening of import channels, more advanced and trendy appliances like color televisions, semi-automatic and fully automatic washing machines, and stereo tape recorders were increasingly appearing in ordinary households. When these modern appliances malfunctioned, repairs became a significant challenge.
After the collapse of the state-owned Red Star Repair Department, although many new individual repair shops had emerged in the city, most had limited technical capabilities. They could handle basic black-and-white televisions and radios reasonably well but were essentially helpless when faced with complex structures and high-integration imported or domestically produced new appliances.
Jiang Tao's Jiang Ji had naturally become the last hope for many due to its previous reputation and technical strength. Yet even he, with his Ability as an aid, began to feel overwhelmed when confronted with these machines that embodied higher technological levels.
His Ability allowed him to quickly diagnose faults, repair physical damage, optimize mechanical performance, and even manufacture some simple structural parts to a limited extent. However, it could not repair burnt-out transistors within integrated circuit chips or conjure up special model electronic components that were simply unavailable domestically. It also couldn't solve certain perplexing issues stemming from design principles that exceeded his knowledge base.
Just a few days ago, a regular customer brought in a newly purchased domestic "Yellow River" brand color television claiming it had ghosting images. After diagnosing for quite some time using his Ability, Jiang Tao concluded that there was an issue with the deflection coil of the picture tube. This component was extremely delicate; he dared not attempt repairs or replacements lightly and could only regretfully advise the customer to contact the manufacturer.
This experience made Jiang Tao acutely aware that he had encountered his first real technical bottleneck since his rebirth!
If he could not quickly master the repair techniques for these new appliances and find sources for critical components, then the technical advantages and reputation he had painstakingly built as a "troubleshooting expert" would soon be overshadowed by competitors like Southern Electric Store that focused on new products and imports. His renovation business would also stagnate due to an inability to handle newer, higher-value used appliances.
"No! I must break through this bottleneck!" Jiang Tao's eyes sharpened with determination. "In an engineer's dictionary, there is no such phrase as 'impossible'! If I lack knowledge, I'll learn; if I lack parts, I'll find them!"
He sprang into action.
First came learning. He understood that the core of these new appliances lay in electronic technology, particularly integrated circuits and more complex control logic. Although he had some exposure to electronics during his previous career in military machinery research and development, it had never been his main focus. Moreover, many technological advancements were evolving rapidly; he needed to update his knowledge base accordingly.
