The Old Miao Doctor carefully bandaged the wound with a clean strip of cloth, then took out a small pouch of medicinal powder, mixing it with warm water in a porcelain bowl before administering it to Lin Mingchang.
"This will sustain him for three days, but after that, if we can't find the antidote, the poison will attack his heart. By then..."
"Old man, you mentioned that we need to find the Gu Master," Shen Tong said urgently, gripping the old man's arm tightly. "Please tell me where we can find the Gu Master!"
The Old Miao Doctor looked up and gazed deeply into Shen Tong's eyes. "Are your eyes... the Raksasa Eye?"
Shen Tong was taken aback; she hadn't expected the Old Miao Doctor to bring this up so suddenly.
With a sigh, the Old Miao Doctor continued, "There used to be a Gu Master in our village, an old woman... She was skilled in the Gu Poisoning Art and knew the nature of all insects. However, she cut off ties with the village ten years ago and moved deep into the mountains. She's very hard to find."
"An old woman? Wasn't she living in that abandoned Brick-and-Tile Cottage near the village?" Shen Tong blurted out as memories surfaced.
A flicker of surprise crossed the Old Miao Doctor's eyes. "You've seen her? She has returned? That’s my sister. The villagers call her 'Gu Po.' She dislikes outsiders and has a very peculiar temperament. But if you can find her, perhaps... perhaps there is still hope for this child."
Shen Tong and Fang Zigui decided to head into the mountains that very night. The Old Miao Doctor arranged for Miao Qing to assist them in their search for Gu Master Granny. Meanwhile, Xiaoshuang stayed behind to help the Old Miao Doctor care for Lin Mingchang.
Fortunately, Miao Qing was familiar with the mountain paths. The three of them lit torches and made their way along the rugged trails. The mountain wind howled as thick clouds obscured the moonlight. Shen Tong led the way; she could faintly see wisps of dark purple Gu Qi floating in the air. However, this aura was extremely weak and difficult to track; one misstep could lead them astray.
They walked for quite some time until dawn began to break when Shen Tong suddenly noticed that the dark purple aura had become slightly denser.
"We're close; we must be nearing our destination!" Shen Tong quickened her pace.
As they crested a hill, a concealed cave nestled among dense trees came into view. Dried herbs and small animal carcasses hung at the cave entrance, releasing a pungent odor that wafted toward them with the morning breeze.
Just as Fang Zigui was about to step forward, Shen Tong pulled him back urgently. "Be careful; there are restrictions at the cave entrance..."
Before she could finish her warning, a rustling sound echoed from within the cave, like countless tiny claws scuttling across the ground.
Suddenly, thousands of black beetles emerged from the cave, forming a writhing black barrier at the entrance.
From inside came an old, hoarse female voice: "Get out!"
Miao Qing stepped forward and shouted, "Auntie! It's me, Miao Qing! Grandpa sent us to find you; someone has been injured by Gu Poison and is in critical condition!"
There was no response from the cave, only silence.
After a moment, the black beetles retreated back into the cave like a tide.
An elderly woman, thin and with graying hair, emerged slowly from the darkness, leaning on a bamboo staff. It was the same woman that Shen Tong had seen twice before, her face lined with wrinkles and her gaze exceptionally sharp.
The Gu Master Granny's eyes scanned Shen Tong and Fang Zigui before she raised her hand slightly and said, "These outsiders, they were sent by Long Tianming!"
"No!" Miao Qing quickly stepped in front of the two, blocking their way. "Auntie! They are good people!"
