At that moment, my father-in-law, Lin Kui, burst into the room. Upon seeing the scene, he immediately grabbed a nearby vase and struck me violently on the back of the head.
"You beast! Dare to lay a hand on my daughter!"
A sharp pain shot through my skull, and my vision exploded into a haze of golden stars. Blood streamed down my neck, warm and sticky.
My grip involuntarily loosened, and A Mei coughed violently, staggering back to hide behind her father, her eyes filled with hatred.
Lin Kui raised his fists, punching and kicking me. "You worthless scum! I should never have let you into this house!"
"Living off us for nothing and still daring to talk back! Now you even dare to hit my daughter! I will make sure you pay for this today!"
Each kick landed squarely on my ribs, each punch struck my face, the agony making it hard to breathe. I curled up on the ground, blood spilling from my mouth.
In this life-and-death moment, my hand brushed against something hard—it was the broken base of the vase, its edge sharp as a knife.
Survival instinct kicked in, and I gripped it tightly.
"You beast, I will make sure you die today! Let you know what it means to—"
Lin Kui's words were cut short.
I didn't know where the strength came from, but I suddenly lunged forward with the vase base and stabbed it fiercely into his neck.
The sharp porcelain pierced flesh easily, blood gushing out.
"Ah!" Lin Kui screamed in agony, clutching his neck as he fell to the ground. Blood flowed from between his fingers, pooling on the floor in a shocking red.
A Mei screamed and rushed for the phone. "I'm calling the police! I will make sure you spend your life in prison! I'll also have Lai Shenglin deal with you!"
Lai Shenglin. That name ignited a fire within me, triggering an explosion of rage.
Images flashed through my mind—scenes of brotherhood with him, memories of his betrayal, and visions of him entwined with A Mei on my bed.
A sudden calmness washed over me.
"Fine, call Lai Shenglin. Bring your lover too," I said coldly.
A Mei froze, not expecting my response. In that moment of hesitation, I charged forward, snatched the phone from her hand, and pushed her down to the ground.
"You've ruined everything for me... ruined everything..." I mechanically repeated these words as the shards of the vase arced through the air, plunging deep into her chest.
A Mei's eyes widened in shock, her mouth opened, but no sound escaped. Her hands clawed futilely at my arm, her strength waning.
"Zhu Quan... why..." Those were her last words.
At that moment, my mother-in-law burst into the room, and upon seeing the blood-soaked floor and her motionless husband and daughter, she let out a piercing scream, "Murder! Help!"
She turned to flee, but I quickly caught up and tackled her to the ground from behind.
In that instant, I was no longer myself; I had become a soulless husk consumed by hatred.
"It's all your fault... all of you..." I murmured to myself as the weapon in my hand rose once more.
My mother-in-law's cries abruptly ceased. The room fell into a deathly silence, broken only by my heavy breathing and the sound of blood dripping onto the floor.
I stood in the center of the living room, drenched in blood, still gripping the warped shard of the vase. Just then, the doorbell rang.
"A Mei, open the door! I'm here!" It was Lai Shenglin's voice.
A twisted smile involuntarily crept across my lips. How timely; my last enemy had come knocking at my door.
