Seeing the gift in Liu Liangmei's hand, Du Yujie's expression shifted between suspicion and uncertainty. If this truly was a guest of her master, offending them would not bode well, yet she couldn't swallow her pride either.
"If you are indeed a distinguished guest invited by my master, I wouldn't dare to offend you. However, I fear someone might be trying to take advantage of the situation. The guests invited this time, aside from us disciples of the Xuan Yue Sect, are all recorded in a guest list. For safety's sake, I need to verify your identity. Please bring me the guest list," Du Yujie said, prompting one of the female disciples of the Xuan Yue Sect to retrieve it.
Liu Liangmei appeared relaxed; with Jiang Chen by her side, she felt fearless. If she had come alone, she wouldn't have dared to be so brazen. Without sufficient strength, one couldn't afford to act so casually.
Soon, the guest list was brought over.
"No need to check; I'm not on the guest list," Liu Liangmei said with a faint smile.
"Heh, so you admit it. Are you going to leave on your own, or should I ask you to leave?" Du Yujie sneered.
"Even with your master present, you have no right to ask me to leave. Mind your words, young lady," Liu Liangmei admonished.
"You barged in uninvited and expect to curry favor with my master? I've been by my master's side for ten years and don't know you at all. Who knows what your intentions are in coming here unannounced? Today is my master's birthday; we cannot afford any mistakes," Du Yujie said, raising her fist as if ready to strike.
"I knew your master long before you were even born, little girl," Liu Liangmei laughed.
"Don't think just because you're older that you're impressive. I see you're trying to ingratiate yourself with my master now that he has gained prominence. Someone like you is not welcome in his presence," Du Yujie huffed coldly.
"Whether he wants to see you or not is up to him," Liu Liangmei replied with a calm smile that carried an undeniable authority.
"You certainly have a big mouth and seem to think highly of yourself. Let me tell you, even without my master as a backing, you can't afford to offend me. I advise you to speak politely; otherwise, you won't last long here on the island," Du Yujie's tone turned serious and haughty.
"Slap!"
Before she could finish her sentence, what awaited her was not reverence but a resounding slap. Liu Liangmei struck Du Yujie without hesitation from across the space between them, the sound echoing sharply.
As a Divine Realm expert, Liu Liangmei's strike was swift and decisive. Du Yujie was momentarily stunned, covering her cheek and staring wide-eyed at Liu Liangmei.
"How dare you hit me?" Du Yujie exclaimed in disbelief.
"This slap was already showing restraint. Just stay quietly aside and stop babbling in front of me," Liu Liangmei said. After all, she wasn't Jiang Chen; if Jiang Chen had struck her, it would have cost Du Yujie half her life and half her teeth. Liu Liangmei's slap was merely playful.
The commotion had drawn the attention of several onlookers. A middle-aged man in his fifties approached with several companions, striding over with authority.
"Yujie, what happened to your face? Who hit you?" The newcomer was none other than Du Yujie's father, Du Chufeng. Upon seeing his daughter covering her cheek, his expression darkened immediately while his gaze sharpened like a knife.
"It was her who hit me!" Du Yujie pointed at Liu Liangmei angrily.
Du Chufeng scrutinized Liu Liangmei with hawk-like intensity. As a powerful figure on the island, he was no stranger to women and had high standards when it came to them. However, upon seeing Liu Liangmei, his first reaction was not one of seeking revenge for his daughter but rather an appreciation for her charm—he thought how delightful it would be if he could have some fun with her.
