The crowd was slightly taken aback by the conversation between the two women, realizing that they were Sister Disciples. However, what appeared to be a warm reunion was laced with an undercurrent of tension.
"Master, she... she is your Senior Sister?" Du Yujie asked in surprise as she hurried to stand beside her Master upon her arrival.
Lou Yijing rarely spoke of her past and certainly never mentioned having a Senior Sister, especially since she considered herself a traitor to her sect. Such matters were the most disgraceful in the Martial Arts World.
Now that Liu Liangmei had publicly confronted her, Lou Yijing had no choice but to acknowledge this Senior Sister. However, if Liu Liangmei intended to expose her shortcomings in front of everyone, she would not accept it.
Moreover, Lou Yijing was prepared; rather than being caught off guard by Liu Liangmei's accusations, she preferred to strike first.
"She was once my Senior Sister, but that is no longer the case. After all, she betrayed our sect and forced me to flee to Treasure Island. Fortunately, heaven has eyes; I fulfilled my Master's wishes and restored our sect's glory there. As for her purpose in coming here today, I doubt it is anything good," Lou Yijing sneered, shamelessly accusing Liu Liangmei of betrayal.
After all, only Lou Yijing and Liu Liangmei knew the truth about their past. Anyone else's opinion was merely one-sided. Today, on her own turf, surrounded by her disciples and guests who naturally supported her, even a single word against her could drown Liu Liangmei in disdain.
Liu Liangmei seemed to have anticipated Lou Yijing's accusations and was not overly shocked or surprised. She simply smiled faintly and replied, "Sister, it’s been over twenty years since we last met. Your thick skin has grown alongside your skills—both have increased with time. As for who betrayed the sect, we both know the truth; our Master in spirit knows as well."
"Ha! Don't bring our Master into this. Just tell me why you're here," Lou Yijing huffed coldly. Despite her bravado, mentioning their Master made her feel a twinge of guilt.
"I heard today is your fiftieth birthday. As your Senior Sister, I specially rushed from the capital to bring you a gift," Liu Liangmei said as she presented a wrapped gift with both hands.
Lou Yijing glanced at the gift with a somber expression and did not immediately take it. Who knew what was inside? She certainly did not trust Liu Liangmei to have good intentions; if it contained hidden weapons, she would be in trouble.
"Forget it; our bond as Sister Disciples has long since faded. You can keep this gift; I won’t accept it," Lou Yijing replied coolly.
"Sister, are you refusing out of fear or reluctance?" Liu Liangmei teased with a smile that made it difficult for Lou Yijing to decline further.
"Don’t worry, Sister; I wouldn’t harm you. If you don’t accept this gift, you might regret it," Liu Liangmei said again, her tone almost coaxing.
With Liu Liangmei being so courteous, if Lou Yijing insisted on refusing the gift now, it would only make her seem guilty. Cleverly, she turned to Du Yujie and said, "Yujie, why don’t you take it for me?"
Du Yujie didn’t think much of it and directly accepted the gift from Liu Liangmei.
"Open it and see," Liu Liangmei encouraged with a smile.
"Open it," Lou Yijing instructed Du Yujie.
Obediently, Du Yujie unwrapped the gift to reveal a clay figure—somewhat abstract but clearly resembling a woman. The onlookers were curious about what kind of gift Liu Liangmei had brought. Upon seeing that it was merely a Broken Clay Figure worth hardly a dollar, they were all left disappointed.
