Lou Yijing appeared to thrust directly at Jiang Chen's face, but as soon as Jiang Chen made a move to block, the Soft Sword could effortlessly evade his defense and strike at his vital points.
Of course, this was merely Lou Yijing's wishful thinking. The reality was that when Jiang Chen saw the Soft Sword coming at him, he didn't move an inch.
"Arrogant, hmph." Lou Yijing scoffed. She truly hadn't expected Jiang Chen to stand still, but that was even better; arrogant people must pay for their actions. She channeled her Inner Energy into the Soft Sword once more, causing it to stiffen and dart straight for Jiang Chen's neck.
When the Soft Sword was still thirty centimeters away from Jiang Chen, he suddenly struck out with incredible speed, pinching the Soft Sword between his index and middle fingers.
"I knew you would do this." Lou Yijing was not surprised; if Jiang Chen had simply stood there waiting for his fate, he would have been a fool. Clearly, he was no fool and would retaliate. However, he had chosen the most inappropriate method of counterattack—pinching the Soft Sword with his fingers was a grave mistake.
Lou Yijing did not attempt to break free; instead, she sent her Inner Energy through the sword, twisting her wrist so that a wave of energy traveled along the blade to its tip. The tip of the sword suddenly changed direction like a snake, wrapping around Jiang Chen's wrist as if it were a piece of jewelry.
"Mr. Jiang, you are still too young and lack practical experience. The Soft Sword is no ordinary weapon; once it wraps around you, it can sever flesh and bone. If I apply just a bit of force now, your wrist will be in jeopardy," Lou Yijing said with a faint smile, exuding confidence.
"Is that so?" Jiang Chen replied calmly.
Lou Yijing's expression shifted slightly as she sensed something was amiss. Suddenly, she felt a chill; frost had formed on her Soft Sword. Then, with a gentle squeeze from Jiang Chen, it shattered like ice under pressure, breaking into pieces that fell to the ground like ice cubes.
Lou Yijing's eyes widened in shock, momentarily at a loss for words.
In her astonishment, Jiang Chen stepped forward. It seemed like just one step, but with a slight shift of his body, he appeared right in front of Lou Yijing, merely half a meter away.
"Now, can you hand over the Shuangyue Jade Pendant?" Jiang Chen smiled at Lou Yijing.
Looking at the young man so close to her, Lou Yijing saw an ordinary youth on the surface; however, who could have imagined such extraordinary skill? His technique was simply remarkable, leaving even someone from the Divine Realm like Lou Yijing in awe.
As Jiang Chen closed in on her, Lou Yijing's first instinct was not to retreat; retreating would mean yielding, and she had never backed down before anyone in her life.
Jiang Chen gazed at her while she returned his stare. Although she could temper her alluring expression now, her emotions were still uncertain. Deep within her eyes began to emerge a hint of wariness—or perhaps fear—toward Jiang Chen.
No wonder Liu Liangmei had come here today without fear; it turned out she had such a powerful ally backing her.
With thoughts racing through her mind, Lou Yijing began to contemplate her strategy. Engaging directly with Jiang Chen would certainly be disadvantageous for her. Moreover, given her ornate attire and crown, she wasn't suited for vigorous combat. However, if she were to show weakness now, her reputation on the island would undoubtedly suffer greatly.
"You want the Shuangyue Jade Pendant? Wait until tomorrow. As you can see tonight is my birthday and also marks the twentieth anniversary of my Xuan Yue Sect’s founding; I am quite busy," Lou Yijing finally said after much deliberation.
