The Legend of the Immortals Prequel: Wilderness Journey
Shang Zhengliang was patted by Ten Thousand Swords in One like this, not knowing why. Perhaps it was the thought of the endless dangers and storms to come, or perhaps it was the call of "good brother" that stirred a surge of heroic spirit within him, causing him to smile and nod vigorously.
Ten Thousand Swords in One looked up at the sky, then turned to Dao Xuan and said, "Brother, there is another junior brother I have my eye on down below. He should be coming to find me soon. I will take both of them to The Eight Desolations and Six Harmonies first. Once everyone is gathered, I will come back to bid you farewell."
Dao Xuan nodded and said, "Alright, you go ahead." After a pause, he added, "By the way, I also asked Master Zhenwu about this matter. She has no objections and only advised you to proceed as you see fit."
Ten Thousand Swords in One nodded, cupped his hands in respect to him, and then strode away. The mountain breeze blew, causing his white robes to flutter, exuding an effortless elegance. Azure Pine and Shang Zhengliang followed behind him, exchanging glances that conveyed their understanding that they were likely companions in this arduous Wilderness Journey, which brought a sense of closeness between them.
Shang Zhengliang was the first to cup his hands and said, "Brother, I look forward to your guidance in the future."
Azure Pine did not dare to be negligent and returned the gesture, saying, "Likewise."
Shang Zhengliang continued, "Brother Wan, there is still one person down the mountain. I wonder who it is among our fellow disciples. Do you know, Brother Azure Pine?"
Azure Pine's expression darkened as he snorted lightly, revealing some displeasure on his face. He replied to Shang Zhengliang, "That person is Tian Buyi from Dazhu Peak. Azure Pine, who always respected Ten Thousand Swords in One, dared not argue further but still snorted in dissatisfaction at how that guy from Dazhu Peak had the audacity to keep Ten Thousand Swords in One waiting.
The three waited for a while, and as the time approached the second watch, Azure Pine's face had darkened to the point that it seemed like water was about to drip from it. Standing beside him, Shang Zhengliang also frowned, thinking that this fellow disciple from Dazhu Peak was being a bit unreasonable.
In contrast, among the three, Ten Thousand Swords in One remained the calmest. He appeared unfazed, with his hands clasped behind his back, gazing into the distance, seemingly lost in thought.
After waiting a bit longer, they suddenly heard hurried footsteps approaching from afar. The three turned to look and saw Tian Buyi running over with an anxious expression, sweat on his face. Strangely, he was followed by someone else—Zeng Shuchang.

Ten Thousand Swords in One smiled slightly but hadn’t spoken yet when Azure Pine sneered coldly and said, "Tian Shidi, you really have some nerve making Wan Shixiong and us wait for you this long. Truly a busy person!"
Hearing this, Tian Buyi's round face turned red instantly. He seemed a bit flustered and stammered, "N-no, it’s not like that! Wan Shixiong, please let me explain..."
Ten Thousand Swords in One chuckled gently and replied calmly, "Tian Shidi need not take it to heart. We agreed to meet at the second watch; the time has not yet passed. You are not late at all. Whatever you think doesn’t really matter. Just tell me your decision now."
Looking at the tall and graceful man before him, Tian Buyi felt a warmth spread through him. He took a deep breath and said solemnly, "Wan Shixiong, I am unworthy. Please allow me to follow you and travel together."

Tian Buyi puffed out his chest and declared, "I’m not afraid!"
Ten Thousand Swords in One laughed heartily and patted Tian Buyi's shoulder with enthusiasm. "Good! I knew I didn’t misjudge you; Tian Shidi, you certainly haven’t disappointed me..."
Before he could finish speaking, suddenly everyone present saw a figure flash by. Zeng Shuchang stepped forward and bowed deeply to Ten Thousand Swords in One. He exclaimed loudly, "Wan Shixiong, please take me along too!"
Everyone was taken aback, but Tian Buyi immediately jumped up in protest. He rushed over and pulled Zeng Shuchang aside before awkwardly saying to Ten Thousand Swords in One, "Wan Shixiong, don’t listen to him! I..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Tian Buyi suddenly stumbled and swayed a few steps to the side uncontrollably.
Zeng Shuchang forcefully pushed the short and stout man aside, then stood tall in front of Ten Thousand Swords in One, raising his head and declaring, "Wan Shixiong, I'm not joking!"
Tian Buyi was furious and rushed over, kicking at him while shouting, "Shut up and get lost!"
Zeng Shuchang held his neck stiffly and actually took Tian Buyi's kick without moving an inch, still standing firm in front of Ten Thousand Swords in One.
Ten Thousand Swords in One couldn't help but chuckle, while Azure Pine, standing behind him, angrily shouted, "What are you two doing?"
At his shout, Tian Buyi and Zeng Shuchang exchanged glances before each huffing and turning their heads away from each other.
Ten Thousand Swords in One sighed and shook his head, saying, "Alright, come over here properly."
He then led the four of them to a secluded spot at the edge of The Eight Desolations and Six Harmonies and began questioning Zeng Shuchang. After a few probing questions, he learned from Zeng Shuchang and Tian Buyi about the twists and turns of the situation. After Tian Buyi had informed him of this matter that morning, despite its dangers, he quickly made a decision to follow Ten Thousand Swords in One into the wilderness after some contemplation. As for how much of this was for the grand cause of Azure Cloud Sect or due to Ten Thousand Swords in One's personal reputation that made others willingly follow him, it was unclear.
After making his decision, Tian Buyi originally intended to inform Ten Thousand Swords in One early on. However, at that moment, Zeng Shuchang suddenly appeared and stubbornly clung to Tian Buyi, insisting on knowing why Ten Thousand Swords in One was being so serious about seeking him out.
Tian Buyi initially didn't want to share this information since Wilderness Journey was a significant matter. But Zeng Shuchang seemed unusually alert and clever today, skillfully prying into Tian Buyi's thoughts while refusing to let him leave. To his surprise, Zeng Shuchang managed to guess most of what was happening just from their brief exchanges and followed him all the way here.
What shocked Tian Buyi the most was that Zeng Shuchang suddenly stepped forward and declared that he wanted to go as well.
"Wan Shixiong, I truly didn't know he would do this," Tian Buyi said awkwardly to Ten Thousand Swords in One before glaring fiercely at Zeng Shuchang, feeling that his best friend had never seemed so detestable.
Zeng Shuchang ignored him and urgently said to Ten Thousand Swords in One, "Wan Shixiong, my skills are definitely higher than this fat guy's; I'm honest and low-key as a person and loyal to our sect. I am not afraid of danger at all. In every aspect, I am stronger than Tian Buyi. Please take me along so I can contribute my efforts for our sect!"
After a pause, he added seriously, "If you think there are too many people, then don't take this fat guy; take me instead."
Tian Buyi was taken aback for a moment before erupting in anger. His face flushed red as he lunged at Zeng Shuchang, raising his fist to strike Zeng Shuchang's handsome face while shouting furiously, "You shameless Zeng Shuchang! I'll beat you to death..."
"Enough!" A light reprimand came from Ten Thousand Swords in One, instantly silencing the two entangled individuals. After a moment of contemplation, he carefully scrutinized Zeng Shuchang and suddenly inquired, "You are Zeng Shuchang, from Feng Huai Peak?"
Zeng Shuchang quickly nodded and replied, "Yes."
After a brief pause, Ten Thousand Swords in One continued, "Zeng Wujishi Uncle from Feng Huai Peak, who is he to you?"
Zeng Shuchang's expression changed slightly. After hesitating for a moment, he whispered, "He is my father."
Ten Thousand Swords in One nodded and thought for a moment before saying, "Senior Brother Zeng, you wish to serve the Sect and are willing to brave dangers to accompany me to the wilderness. I understand your intentions. However, this matter cannot be concealed from your Master Zeng. As far as I know, he has only you as his sole son. I cannot make a decision without his consent."
Zeng Shuchang's face flushed with embarrassment and anger. He pleaded with Ten Thousand Swords in One, "Wan Shixiong, I can make this decision myself."
Ten Thousand Swords in One simply shook his head and said, "Here’s the deal: this matter is quite urgent. We will leave the mountain tonight at midnight. At midnight on Rainbow Bridge's peak, you must bring me a handwritten letter of consent from Master Zeng. With that letter, I will take you with me; without it, you need not come."
Zeng Shuchang was taken aback. However, seeing Ten Thousand Swords in One's resolute expression with no signs of wavering, he found himself at a loss for words.
Ten Thousand Swords in One glanced at him and said no more. He turned to Azure Pine, Tian Buyi, and Shang Zhengliang and said, "For this Wilderness Journey, quality is more important than quantity; it will just be us few. You all heard what was said earlier. Now go back and prepare; meet at Rainbow Bridge's peak before midnight tonight so we can leave the mountain together."
Azure Pine, Tian Buyi, and Shang Zhengliang all had serious expressions as they clasped their fists in response and said, "Understood."
