The Legend of the Immortals Prequel: Wilderness Journey
Ten Thousand Swords in One had been decided, and everyone agreed, so they all turned towards the village.
The five of them were all young practitioners from the Azure Cloud Sect, and the faint sound of crying instinctively quickened their pace. Before long, they arrived at the outskirts of the village.
From above, these villages appeared as mere clusters of houses, but as they approached, it felt entirely different. In fact, in the past, Ten Thousand Swords in One and others had passed through this area, and they remembered the villages on this plain as peaceful and serene. However, at this moment, thick black smoke billowed up, shattering that tranquility and adding a sense of ferocity.
A wide road about six feet across led deep into the village. They could vaguely see shadows moving behind the disordered houses, and rough shouts could be heard from a distance.
On one side of this road stood a large tree, where several people simultaneously noticed a body hanging from it, swaying gently in the breeze. The head was tilted to one side, lifeless.
Looking at the clothing of the person, it seemed to be a villager who originally lived here, but their clothes were stained with blood, indicating they had suffered greatly in life. Upon seeing this scene, the expressions of the Azure Cloud Sect members immediately turned cold.
Ten Thousand Swords in One snorted coldly without saying a word and strode directly towards the village.
The other four quickly followed suit. Tian Buyi brought up the rear and caught a glimpse of a large stone under a tree at the village entrance. It bore the inscription “Grass Shoe Village.” The characters were somewhat blurred and appeared to be quite old; perhaps long ago, villagers had settled near the Azure Cloud Mountain Range.
Tian Buyi’s expression was solemn and stern as he gripped the hilt of his Crimson Flame Sword tightly and walked forward.
In no time, they reached the center of the village. Ahead stood what seemed to be a large house resembling a ancestral hall. In front of the hall was an open space where seven or eight people stood idly, all dressed in garments of demonic cultists. Kneeling at their feet were two villagers—an elderly man and a young child.
The old man appeared to be over sixty years old, but his white hair was matted with blood. The child looked to be around five or six years old and seemed to be his grandson. At this moment, he was being held tightly by the old man, who was filled with terror as he pleaded with the demonic cultists: “Gentlemen, please spare my grandson’s life!”
Looking at the appearance of the grandfather and grandson, the several followers of the Demonic Cult standing nearby burst into laughter. Moments later, two men who seemed to be the leaders of this group walked over. One of the strong men kicked the old man in the waist, instantly knocking him to the ground, while angrily shouting, "Stop talking nonsense! Quickly tell me where the other villagers are hiding!"
The old man let out a painful groan as he fell to the ground and struggled to get up. The grandson began to cry loudly, desperately trying to pull on his grandfather's arm.
At that moment, sunlight shone down on the faces of the two men, causing those who were rushing over from a distance, including Ten Thousand Swords in One and others, to pause for a moment. They recognized that these two were actually the same Demonic Cult Monsters they had encountered yesterday. The strong one was Duanmu Tie, and the short, ugly-faced one was the Vampire Demon from Blood Skull's sinister treasures.
At this moment, both Duanmu Tie and the Vampire Demon were clearly unaware that outsiders had entered the village; their attention was focused on questioning these two villagers.
The old man groaned in pain but did not provide them with any answers. Just as Duanmu Tie was about to lose his temper, the Vampire Demon sneered coldly and suddenly stepped forward, grabbing the child by the arm and grinning maliciously, "Old fool, you don't know what's good for you. Just when I need some fresh, tender blood to recover from my injuries, your grandson is perfect."
The child cried out loudly, and the old man was horrified. With a desperate scream, he seemed to summon strength from nowhere and lunged toward the Vampire Demon in an attempt to save his grandson.
Nearby, Duanmu Tie laughed heartily and reached out to block the old man while grabbing his shirt at the chest with his other hand, pulling him up as he shouted, "Hurry up! Otherwise, I'll skin you alive and hang you on a tree at the village entrance. Do you believe me?"
"I don't believe it!"
A voice filled with coldness suddenly came from nearby, causing everyone from the Demonic Cult to freeze momentarily. They turned their heads to see several people walking down the road from the direction of the village entrance, each with a serious and murderous expression. The young man leading them wore white clothes, had sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, and his expression seemed as cold as ice.
Upon seeing these people—especially the White-Clad Man—Duanmu Tie and the Vampire Demon both trembled violently in disbelief. After exchanging glances for a moment, they suddenly shouted in unison, "Kill!"
With that command given, the surrounding followers of the Demonic Cult immediately howled and cursed as they drew their weapons and charged toward Azure Cloud Sect's five members. However, Duanmu Tie directly threw down the old man and turned to flee.
The Vampire Demon made a similar move but hesitated for a moment before deciding not to abandon the child. Instead, he tucked him under his arm and ran after Duanmu Tie.
They had only run a few dozen paces when they suddenly heard a roaring sound behind them, followed by a fierce wind that rapidly approached. Duanmu Tie and the Vampire Duo turned their heads at the same time, their faces instantly drained of color. They saw a group of demonic cult followers shouting loudly, but they were easily blocked by three individuals over there. Even though they were outnumbered, they were still being pushed back step by step, clearly indicating a huge disparity in strength between the two sides.
In mid-air, a white figure soared past the crowd, rushing toward them like lightning; it was Ten Thousand Swords in One.
Since the battle at Azure Cloud Foothills yesterday, Duanmu Tie and the Vampire Duo had developed an intense hatred and fear of Ten Thousand Swords in One. At this moment, seeing this scene made their hearts race with terror, and they could only flee desperately as if their parents had given them two fewer legs.
However, Ten Thousand Swords in One was simply too fast. The sound of wind surged like a dragon in the clouds, and in the blink of an eye, he was behind the two of them. Duanmu Tie and the Vampire both shouted loudly, realizing that escape was impossible; they turned to fight for their lives. Just then, a cold voice suddenly came from ahead, saying, "Get out of the way!"
Duanmu Tie and the Vampire Demon were both startled and then showed joy on their faces. Duanmu Tie even shouted out loud, "Brothers of Hundred Poisons Sect, save me!"
