The Legend of the Immortals Prequel: Wilderness Journey
Looking out over the Barbaric Desert, it resembles an incredibly desolate dead sea, filled with scorching sun and yellow sand. There are no trees, and not even a few withered grasses can be found. An ordinary person would be unable to survive here. However, for the five disciples of the Azure Cloud Sect, including Ten Thousand Swords in One, their cultivated skills are certainly sufficient to cope with this harsh climate, but the desert that has been able to block the righteous path for centuries is not so simple.
The Barbaric Desert is, in fact, not peaceful.
Beneath the seemingly silent sea of sand lurk numerous ferocious beasts, such as the Sand Scorpion, Earth Dragon, and Red Python, unique to the Barbaric Desert. Upon entering this wilderness, Ten Thousand Swords in One and his companions encountered several of these creatures. Fortunately, their exceptional cultivation and skills, combined with Ten Thousand Swords in One's quick wit and decisiveness, allowed them to overcome these challenges one by one.
In terms of injuries, they suffered relatively little. The most unfortunate were probably Shang Zhengliang and Zeng Shuchang. The former was stung by a Sand Scorpion's poisonous tail and, after taking the Azure Cloud Sect's unique antidote pill, still had half of his arm swollen. As for Zeng Shuchang, he was even more unlucky; while the five were walking through the desert, they were suddenly attacked by a rare giant Earth Dragon, which was essentially a massive sandworm. During that battle, Ten Thousand Swords in One displayed remarkable prowess; with a single strike of the Dragon Slayer Sword using “Slay the Gods,” he managed to cut the beast in half. However, during the fight, Zeng Shuchang happened to be right beneath the Earth Dragon. With a loud splash, he was completely submerged in a thick, deep green liquid that flowed like a tide…
“Where is there any water…” A voice filled with despair echoed across the Dune. Among the five disciples of the Azure Cloud Sect who were walking forward, Zeng Shuchang, at the back, had repeated this phrase countless times.
Of course, there was no water in the desert. The five did have some fresh water with them; however, that was meant for drinking. Even if they gave all of it to Zeng Shuchang, it would certainly not be enough for him to take a proper bath. Thus, it was only natural that the other four ignored that unfortunate fellow with calm expressions.
Under the sunlight, one could see that the other four were generally well-dressed, while only Zeng Shuchang at the back appeared disheveled and somewhat pitiful. Every few steps he took, he instinctively tugged at his clothes with a face full of despair and pain, futilely trying to remove those strange colors from his body.
At this moment, however, the sticky liquid on him had mostly disappeared because although there was no fresh water for bathing along the way, following the suggestions of Ten Thousand Swords in One and others, Zeng Shuchang had rolled around in the scorching yellow sand more than ten times. Well, one could call it a "sand bath"!
Being submerged in a mass of poisonous insect fluid is undoubtedly a chilling experience. At least from what could be seen now, Zeng Shuchang's face was green; it was unclear whether it was due to residual colors or if he truly felt nauseated. Fortunately, although that Earth Dragon was extremely ferocious, its bodily fluids were mostly non-toxic—just quite disgusting—and besides that, this green liquid emitted an unusually foul odor that even Zeng Shuchang found unbearable.
After walking for a while longer and seeing that they had crossed this particular Dune, there were still countless more ahead waiting for them. The members of the Azure Cloud Sect showed no signs of surprise and continued walking calmly.
Unable to endure any longer, Zeng Shuchang quickened his pace to walk beside Tian Buyi, saying: “Not easy for you…”
"Ah, Wan Shixiong, I have something to ask you!"
Before Zeng Shuchang finished speaking, a foul odor had already spread through the surrounding air. Suddenly, Tian Buyi called out to Ten Thousand Swords in One ahead of him, then quickly walked to Ten Thousand Swords in One's side and sincerely said, "Wan Shixiong, I have been cultivating at Dazhu Peak for many years and have admired your great name for a long time. Recently, I encountered some difficulties on the path of Tai Chi Xuanqing. Could you please help me with my confusion?"
Ten Thousand Swords in One smiled casually and said, "We are all fellow disciples; there is no need to be so polite. Just ask."
Tian Buyi was overjoyed and quickly nodded in thanks. Behind him, Zeng Shuchang glared at the short and plump man, thought for a moment, and then turned to look at Shang Zhengliang. Before he could speak, he suddenly saw Shang Zhengliang tremble slightly and stride forward, swiftly standing next to Ten Thousand Swords in One, his demeanor extremely respectful. He said, "Wan Shixiong, like Tian Shidi, I have admired you for a long time as well. I also have a few questions about my cultivation; I would like to ask for your guidance."
Ten Thousand Swords in One smiled gently, shook his head, and laughed heartily as he continued walking forward while saying, "You guys, never mind; let's talk while we walk."
Both Tian Buyi and Shang Zhengliang maintained their usual expressions and closely followed.
Zeng Shuchang was furious and glared at the two of them resentfully. He then turned his gaze to the last person still nearby, Azure Pine.
However, he saw that Azure Pine had a calm expression with a hint of disdain in his eyes. First, he glanced at Tian Buyi and Zeng Shuchang, then turned back to look at Zeng Shuchang and sighed, "How ridiculous! A mere foul smell can reveal a person's character and preferences; how shallow and crude! With such a mindset, how can one cultivate the unparalleled techniques of our Azure Cloud Sect?"
Zeng Shuchang felt a surge of emotion as if he had found a kindred spirit. He nodded repeatedly and approached Azure Pine, saying loudly, "Azure Pine Shixiong, you are absolutely right. Actually, I wanted to ask if there are any green..."
Before he could finish speaking, he suddenly noticed that Azure Pine's expression changed slightly. After staring at Zeng Shuchang for a moment, he suddenly clapped his hands and swiftly darted to the side of Ten Thousand Swords in One and the other three. He spoke earnestly and loudly, "Wan Shixiong, I have admired you for a long time..."
Zeng Shuchang: "..."
Ten Thousand Swords in One turned around with a smile and said, "Azure Pine, why are you causing trouble just like them? Haven't we known each other for many years?"
Azure Pine coughed and said, "Senior Brother, the longer time passes, the more I feel you are unattainable. My admiration for you only grows thicker."
At the side, Tian Buyi and Shang Zhengliang were both taken aback, then exchanged glances, realizing each other's shock and thoughts: "Wow, how come we can't flatter like this!"
While the four were laughing, suddenly a wail came from behind, the voice sharp yet filled with determination. Everyone turned in surprise to see Zeng Shuchang suddenly pouncing over, darting to the side of Ten Thousand Swords in One.
Instantly, except for Ten Thousand Swords in One, the other three covered their noses. They saw Zeng Shuchang with tearful eyes, overwhelmed with emotion, grabbing Ten Thousand Swords in One's arm and choked out, "Wan Shixiong, I... I admire you too!"
