The Legend of the Immortals Prequel: Wilderness Journey
This strange and vicious insect waved its two sharp, saw-like fangs and lunged at the foot of Ten Thousand Swords in One, seemingly trying to take a bite. However, Ten Thousand Swords in One seemed to have anticipated this trick; he leaped into the air, and with a gust of wind from his palm, he struck down, instantly turning the ugly insect into a pulp amid the fierce sound of wind.
Before he even landed, he turned around and shouted loudly to his several junior brothers behind him, "Watch your feet!"
Azure Pine, Tian Buyi, and the others were all taken aback. Almost simultaneously, a strange sound suddenly echoed from Sand Dance Maze, with rustling noises surging like a flood!
In an instant, the sand in the vicinity began to writhe, and countless similar insects emerged, charging towards the five of them.
With Ten Thousand Swords in One's warning, Azure Pine, Tian Buyi, and the others were on high alert. They quickly took action; sword lights flared up, protecting their bodies while also slashing at the tide of insects surrounding them.
Although these strange insects were ferocious, they were still no match for the powerful artifacts of the immortals. A large number of them quickly fell.
However, within this Sand Dance Maze, it was unclear how many of these strange insects were hidden. Although it appeared that the five had temporarily gained the upper hand, the number of insects continued to increase. Eventually, not only was the ground swarming with insects, but even on the towering Sand Wall around them, insects began to emerge and attack the five fiercely.
Even though Ten Thousand Swords in One and his companions were highly skilled in their arts, they were momentarily thrown into disarray by these suddenly overwhelming insects, appearing somewhat flustered.
Yet they were not ordinary people; under the protection of their artifacts, these individually weaker monsters still posed no threat to them. Instead, the number of insect corpses on the ground kept increasing.
These strange insects seemed to lack much intelligence; they just kept burrowing out and attacking frantically, as if trying to overwhelm them with sheer numbers.
After a while, the situation began to look grim. Ten Thousand Swords in One was relatively at ease compared to others, but he quickly noticed that Zeng Shuchang was struggling somewhat, and Shang Zhengliang also seemed to be exerting effort. Azure Pine appeared to be handling things well; however, what surprised him most was that Tian Buyi was not far behind Azure Pine. Perhaps it was because this short and stout junior brother had considerable insight into defensive techniques?
Ten Thousand Swords in One observed the situation and swiftly moved beside Zeng Shuchang and Shang Zhengliang, beginning to help them fend off the swarm of insects.
With this strong ally joining the fray, Zeng Shuchang and Shang Zhengliang immediately felt a release of pressure, and the previously dangerous situation stabilized once more.
However, it was clear that maintaining this stalemate was not a solution, as the number of these monstrous insects seemed terrifyingly endless. Just as Ten Thousand Swords in One was contemplating whether to let a few junior brothers fly up to avoid the insect tide for a moment, a deep and strange roar suddenly echoed from deep within the Sand Dance Maze. Among the sounds, there were also several crisp voices of women filled with anger, which surprisingly resembled the voice of Zhuque.
With that eerie cry, the insects attacking Ten Thousand Swords in One and the others suddenly retreated en masse, all burrowing into the ground or the sand on the Sand Wall, disappearing in an instant and leaving behind a ground littered with disgusting insect corpses.
The five members of Azure Cloud Sect slowly gathered together, their breaths calming down but still showing signs of lingering fear. Zeng Shuchang couldn't help but exclaim, "What on earth are these things? Why are they so difficult to deal with?"
Ten Thousand Swords in One shook his head in silence, focusing intently on listening to the distant sounds. Meanwhile, Tian Buyi, standing nearby, said to Zeng Shuchang, "These insects might be a unique type of monster found only in the Sand Dance Maze. With the strength of this swarm, it's no wonder that Bai Duzai and others consider this one of the most dangerous places in the wilderness."
Azure Pine and Shang Zhengliang both nodded slightly, seeming to agree with Tian Buyi. However, at that moment, another similar sound echoed from deep within the maze. Ten Thousand Swords in One suddenly spoke up, "Let’s go; we should check it out."
Before he finished speaking, he had already darted forward, and the other four exchanged glances before quickly following him.
There were no further obstacles along the way, but the eerie rustling sounds from earlier continued to echo around them, creating a chilling sensation.
Finally reaching the source of the noise and rounding a tall Sand Wall, the five members of Azure Cloud Sect found themselves in an open area within the maze. However, when they scanned ahead, they collectively gasped in shock.
After countless monstrous insects had suddenly vanished, they had gathered here instead. Every available space filled with sand or soil—including areas on the Sand Wall—was packed with enormous insects. In the center stood a gigantic poisonous insect thousands of times larger than an ordinary one, violently attacking a figure before it clad in black robes and a black scarf—it was Zhuque.
The strength of the Insect King was clearly vastly different from the ordinary swarm of insects surrounding it. Although Zhuque was highly skilled, she was already struggling under the fierce assault of the Insect King, not to mention the countless insects attacking her from all directions, which made it even more difficult for her.
Just when Zhuque seemed to be on the verge of collapse, a sharp and piercing shriek suddenly erupted from beside a Sand Wall. A brilliant green light shot up, with sand flying and stones scattering, as a white figure charged forward unstoppable.
Zhuque's body trembled slightly, and she couldn't help but glance back at the incoming Ten Thousand Swords in One; the Insect King seemed equally surprised that someone would deliberately provoke it, instantly becoming furious and turning to attack Ten Thousand Swords in One.
Ten Thousand Swords in One sidestepped, and a green light shot out like a long rainbow piercing the sun, directly striking down on the Insect King's right side and slicing off a piece of flesh.
The insect let out a loud cry, clearly suffering great damage, and Zhuque, being clever, immediately seized the opportunity to launch a powerful counterattack.
Soon, under the combined assault of the two masters, the Insect King could no longer withstand it. After letting out several furious roars, it burrowed underground and disappeared in an instant.
With the Insect King having escaped, the countless strange insects around seemed to lose their backbone as well. They all squealed and burrowed into the sand pile, scattering away from this place in an instant.
The surroundings quickly fell silent, leaving behind a chaotic ground and many insect corpses as reminders of the once rampant swarm.
Zhuque landed back on the ground, her gaze fixed intently on the five members of Azure Cloud Sect, finally resting on Ten Thousand Swords in One's face.
Ten Thousand Swords in One appeared much more relaxed, sheathing the Dragon Slayer Sword with ease and even giving Zhuque a slight smile.
