Of course, Shen Tong was not a weak woman in need of protection. Her figure was light and agile, like a swimming fish; though she did not rely on brute strength, her movements were graceful and fluid. She had sensed the danger before the man in black made his move and had already stepped aside half a beat early. The short knife grazed her clothing and struck the wooden screen in the corridor instead.
The screen shattered with a loud crack, sending wood chips flying. Quick-witted, Shen Tong seized a piece of the broken wood and aimed for the opponent's wrist. The man in black cried out in pain as the knife slipped from his grasp and fell to the ground. Seizing the opportunity, Shen Tong closed in and delivered a palm strike to his chest. The man was sent flying backward, crashing heavily onto the stone floor of the courtyard.
Meanwhile, Xiaoshuang was hiding in the room, anxiously watching the chaotic battle outside through the window. Suddenly, she noticed another man in black trying to sneak around to the backyard through a side door, clearly up to no good. Without hesitation, Xiaoshuang grabbed an oil lamp from her bedside, quickly lit it, pushed open the window, and hurled it at the man.
The oil lamp struck just beside the man's feet, shattering instantly and splattering oil everywhere as flames shot up over a foot high. The man was startled, and those few seconds of distraction provided Lin Mingchang with an opportunity. He leaped out from around the corner and swept a kick toward the man's knee.
The man fell to the ground, still dazed, as Lin Mingchang swiftly stepped on his wrist. The man struggled desperately to retrieve his short knife. Without hesitation, Lin Mingchang delivered a punch to his face, causing him to lose consciousness.
Seeing their comrades defeated, the remaining men in black dared not linger; they abandoned their unconscious companion and scrambled over the wall to escape. Lin Mingchang pointed at the still-unconscious man on the ground and said, "Bind him."
Fang Zigui picked up some ropes that their attackers had brought and joined Lin Mingchang in tying up the man securely before tossing him onto the courtyard floor. The area was now in disarray, but fortunately, none of the three fighters had been injured.
At that moment, Liang Qingsong took a bowl of cold water from an old servant and walked over to where the bound man lay. He glanced down at him with a slight tilt of his eye and without saying a word, splashed the entire bowl of water onto the man's face. The man felt a rush of cold water over him and abruptly opened his eyes, shaking his head to clear away the lingering dizziness.
However, just as he regained his senses, he saw the glinting tip of a knife pressed against his throat. The handle was firmly gripped by Lin Mingchang. "Speak! Who sent you? What is your purpose?"
The man in black still had some defiance left in him; he tightly shut his lips and remained silent.
Shen Tong stepped forward a few paces and said softly, "You came for me, didn't you? For my eyes?"
The man in black turned his head away, refusing to look at Shen Tong, displaying an attitude of indifference as if he wouldn't shed tears until he saw the coffin.
Lin Mingchang snorted coldly, applying more pressure with the knife, which slightly broke the skin of the man's throat, causing a drop of blood to trickle down the blade. "I'll ask you one last time: who sent you?"
Seeing his own blood, the man’s lips turned pale. His gaze flickered for a moment before he finally spoke, "It was... Shi Xu Elder..."
"Shi Xu Elder? Who is he? Where is he now?" Lin Mingchang pressed on, pushing the knife in deeper.
"Please, don't kill me!" The man in black gasped in fear. "Shi Xu Elder is... is the leader of our Gui Xu Society! He is on Yu Long Mountain... preparing for the Lunar Eclipse Ritual..."
