Leonard stumbled through the Emerald Corridor of the Glorious Demon Fortress, the moonlight stretching his shadow long and twisted, resembling a grotesque monster.
The bitter taste of failure spread in his mouth, more searing than the strongest Dragon Breath wine.
He had lost Aelia, lost Lucius's respect, and now the Glorious Demon Fortress, once a source of pride, felt like a massive cage imprisoning him.
"Luna..." he whispered her name, as if calling for a final redemption, or perhaps cursing the sudden turn of events.
A dark figure silently appeared behind him, like a wisp from hell.
"Lord of the Fortress," the voice was deep and hoarse, like dry leaves scraping against stone. "There are some things you may not yet know..."
Meanwhile, in Aelia's room, the atmosphere was entirely different.
Luna, this seemingly harmless infant, was conveying more clues about Leonard's betrayal to Aelia in her unique way.
Her tiny hands waved as she babbled in a language only Aelia could understand.
At first, Aelia looked puzzled. Luna squirmed in her arms, her chubby little finger pointing towards Leonard's study while making urgent sounds.
A shiver ran through Aelia; an inexplicable premonition surged within her.
Could it be...?
Luna pointed to herself and then mimicked a man's walking style, wobbling a few steps before stopping to make a hugging gesture and pointing again towards the study.
Aelia's breath quickened; she seemed to see a vision of Leonard's last night: Leonard in the study with another woman... The thought struck her like lightning, piercing through her reason.
She couldn't believe it, yet she had no choice but to accept it.
Luna could not have performed those actions out of thin air; she must have seen or felt something.
A complex mix of emotions surged within Aelia: shock, anger, sadness, and... a hint of anticipation.
Anticipation for the truth, anticipation for relief.
She held Luna tightly, feeling the warmth radiating from her daughter as if grasping a lifeline.
“Qin Si!” she suddenly called out, her voice carrying a barely perceptible tremor.
Qin Si hurried over upon hearing her name, noticing the pale complexion of the lady and the serious expression on her face as she cradled Luna.
“Madam, what is your command?”
“Go, investigate Lord's recent movements in secret, especially the situation in his study. Leave no clue unexamined!” Aelia's voice was low and resolute, as if pronouncing someone's destiny.
Qin Si accepted the order but was filled with worry.
She knew that if the lady's suspicions were true, then the Glorious Demon Fortress would soon face a tremendous storm.
The Lord's betrayal would shake the very foundations of their family.
The news spread like wildfire and quickly reached the elder brother's ears.
He sat in his wheelchair, gripping the armrests tightly, his knuckles turning white.
The pain from the Magic Backlash tormented him, but at that moment, the anger within him was even harder to bear.
“Leonard! How dare he!” he growled, his voice hoarse and trembling.
He felt disdain for Mother and worry for the family.
Once Leonard's scandal was exposed, the Glorious Demon Fortress would become the target of public outrage, and the family's honor would be tarnished.
He took a deep breath, striving to calm himself.
He could not falter; he was the Eldest Son of the family, and he had to protect Mother and safeguard their lineage.
When Second Brother learned of the matter, his face darkened ominously.
He recalled how he had once been deceived by a close friend, trapped in the agony of the Magic Dilemma, and felt even more contempt for Leonard's actions.
“How could he do such a thing!” He slammed his fist on the table, creating a loud bang.
“I cannot tolerate him tarnishing our family's honor!” He stood up and strode toward Mother's room.
Brother San was admiring his handsome face in front of a mirror.
He possessed a natural talent for magic but had squandered it on frivolous pursuits due to his playful nature.
Hearing the commotion outside, he frowned in annoyance.
“What’s all this noise about?” he muttered as he opened the door...
As Brother San stepped out of his room, gossip rushed into his ears like a gust of wind.
Leonard, that seemingly righteous Father of his, was actually betraying Mother... Brother San shivered, not from cold, but from suddenly becoming aware of his own foolishness all along.
Relying on his talent, he had idled away his days indulging in shallow pleasures while his brothers quietly worked hard for the family.
Eldest Brother, disabled due to the Magic Backlash, still cares deeply for the family; Second Brother, betrayed by a close friend, remains resilient and unyielding.
And what about him?
What has he done?
Shame surged within him like a tidal wave, nearly drowning him.
He clenched his fists, Ailya's White Nails digging deeply into his palm, a sharp pain jolting him back to reality.
No, he couldn't continue like this!
He had to do something for the family!
He had to protect Mother!
Suddenly, he felt an unprecedented fighting spirit burning in his chest.
Meanwhile, Lucius sat alone in the study, tightly gripping a piece of paper in his hand.
It read: "Lord of the Fortress and Leonard's Concubine Tryst."
These words burned into his mind like a brand.
He couldn't believe it, nor could he accept it.
His father, the Lord of the Glorious Demon Fortress, had committed such an unworthy act!
A wave of nausea washed over him as his stomach churned violently.
He had always respected Father, looking up to him as a role model, but he never expected that Father’s true nature would be so ugly.
Disappointment, anger, and worry intertwined within him, nearly suffocating him.
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to calm himself.
What should be done about the future of the family?
Leonard hummed a little tune as he walked down the corridor with a light step.
He was in a cheerful mood, completely unaware of the undercurrents swirling within the castle.
He had just received news that his Concubine had given birth to a son.
He could almost envision a more glorious future for himself—power, wealth, beauty; he would have it all!
He pushed open the door to his study, and a faint Cedar Fragrance wafted toward him. It was his favorite incense.
He walked to the desk and picked up a Feather Pen, preparing to write a letter to his Concubine.
Suddenly, he felt something unusual.
A tense atmosphere filled the air, making him feel somewhat uncomfortable.
He furrowed his brow and looked around but found nothing out of the ordinary.
“It must be my imagination,” he muttered to himself before continuing to write the letter.
Aelia stood in the center of the hall, her gaze sharp as she surveyed the crowd.
She held a letter tightly in her hand, the letterhead trembling slightly.
“Leonard,” her voice was cold, like the ice and snow of winter, “do you have anything to say?” Leonard looked bewildered, feigning calmness as he asked, “Madam, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.” “Don’t understand?” Aelia sneered, throwing the letter in front of him. “Take a look for yourself!” Leonard picked up the letter and quickly skimmed through it, his face turning pale in an instant.
This letter was addressed to his concubine, filled with sweet nothings and… He raised his head to look at Aelia. “This… this… is fake!” he stammered, his voice trembling.
“Fake?” Aelia laughed coldly again. “Do you think I would believe your lies? I’ve already sent someone to investigate. I know all about your concubine and your illegitimate child!” She paused, her tone growing even colder. “Leonard, you’ve disappointed me greatly!” Leonard’s face darkened with rage; he hadn’t expected his scheme to be exposed.
He clenched his fists, Aelia's white nails digging deep into his palm.
“Aelia, you…” he gritted his teeth.
“What?” Aelia interrupted him. “You want to say I’m wronging you? You want to say I’m being unreasonable?” She took a deep breath, her tone calming down. “Leonard, this is over between us.”
“Over?” Leonard suddenly burst into laughter, filled with mockery and disdain. “What do you think you are? Do you really think you can leave me?” He stepped closer to Aelia, looking down at her from above. “Let me tell you, without me, you are nothing!” Aelia met his gaze fearlessly. “Is that so? Then we’ll see!” She pushed Leonard aside and turned to walk towards Luna.
“Come on, let’s go.” Luna reached out her small hand and tightly grasped Aelia’s fingers, laughing merrily.
Leonard watched their departing figures. “Think you can leave? Not that easy!” He suddenly turned around and shouted towards the door, “Someone! Stop them!” Just then, a childish voice rang out. “Wait…” Everyone turned to see Luna pointing at Leonard, a sly smile on her little face. “I know your concubine’s secret…”
