Leonard led Luna deep into a hidden basement of the Magic Castle.
The humid air was filled with the musty smell of mold and dust, while torches crackled, casting flickering shadows on the rough stone walls, dancing like phantoms.
Luna's small figure appeared particularly fragile in this setting, yet her emerald green eyes sparkled with an unusual light, as if she could see through everything.
“Luna, look!” Leonard whispered, his voice tinged with barely contained excitement as he pushed open a heavy iron door, revealing a spacious interior.
The firelight illuminated the entire basement, exposing the dense crowd of figures within.
They were dressed in various colored Magic Robes, holding staffs and whispering to one another, creating an atmosphere that was both tense and mysterious.
“These people are Mages I have secretly gathered. They are all loyal to me and willing to serve,” Leonard said proudly, gesturing towards them. “With their help, we will surely overthrow Aelia and reclaim everything that belongs to me!”
He paced like a hungry wolf about to catch its prey, his eyes gleaming with greed.
“I have already reached an agreement with the Book Elder outside the city. With our combined efforts, breaking into the Magic Castle is just around the corner!” He waved his arms as if he could already see the dawn of victory.
Luna listened quietly, not saying a word, but a hint of cunning flickered across her small face.
Leonard continued, “By then, the entire Glorious Demon Fortress will be ours! I will become the new Lord, and you…” He paused, kneeling down in front of Luna with an almost obsequious tone. “You will become the little princess of the Magic Castle, wielding supreme power!”
He seemed to envision himself ascending to the position of Lord, receiving worship from all around him, his heart racing with excitement.
He reached out to pat Luna's head but she deftly dodged away.
Luna tilted her head back and tugged at Leonard's hem, speaking in a baby voice. “Uncle Leonard, I have an idea that's even more important than rebellion…”
Leonard felt a surge of excitement, thinking Luna was about to propose some brilliant plan. Eagerly, he asked, “Oh? What’s on your mind? I’m all ears.” He could already envision a glorious future where he and Luna jointly ruled the Magic Castle.
“Uncle Leonard, are you skilled in advanced magic? Have you studied the solutions to those magical conundrums?” Luna blinked her big eyes innocently as she asked.
Leonard paused for a moment, then puffed out his chest confidently and replied, “Of course! I am the Lord of the Glorious Demon Fortress, and my magical prowess is extraordinary! Those so-called magical problems are nothing to me!” He even began to fantasize about the look of admiration in Luna’s eyes, his lips curling into an involuntary smile.
“That’s wonderful!” Luna’s eyes sparkled as if she had discovered a treasure. “Uncle Leonard, can you help me solve a magical problem?”
Leonard was so excited he nearly jumped up. He felt he was on the brink of becoming a legendary figure in the magical world. Eagerly, he asked, “What’s the problem? Tell me quickly! I will definitely help you!”
Luna pulled out an old Grimoire from her pocket and pointed to a complex Magic Circle on one of its pages. “It’s this one; I’ve been struggling to understand its principles.”
Leonard’s previously excited expression froze instantly. His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at the Grimoire, then glanced at Luna’s innocent face, feeling as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over him.
He took a deep breath, trying to suppress his rising anger, and asked, “You… you called me here just to ask me about this thing?”
Luna nodded earnestly. “Yes! This has been troubling me for a long time! Uncle Leonard, you can definitely help me, right?”
Leonard could no longer contain himself. He snatched the Grimoire from her hands and slammed it onto the ground with a roar of frustration. “You’re messing with me!” He was trembling with rage as he turned to leave, not wanting to look at Luna again.
“Hey, Uncle Leonard, don’t go…” Luna’s voice echoed in the empty basement but did nothing to stop Leonard's retreating footsteps.
Sunlight poured over the Magic Market, where amidst the bustling crowd, a woman dressed in a light purple Starry Gown anxiously searched for something.
She was Aelia's personal maid, Qin Si, tasked with finding Luna.
Suddenly, she spotted a familiar little figure squatting in front of a stall, haggling with the vendor.
“Luna!” Qin Si hurried over, a hint of reproach in her voice. “What are you doing here all alone? The lady is very worried about you!”
Luna looked up, and upon seeing Qin Si, she smiled sweetly. “Sister Qin Si, I’m here buying Magic Materials!”
Qin Si frowned as she glanced at the Magic Materials in Luna's hands. “Luna, what do you need these things for?”
Luna winked mysteriously and replied, “It’s a secret!” After a pause, she added, “Sister Qin Si, I just saw Uncle Leonard…”
Leonard was furious, his nose wrinkled in anger as he grabbed Luna's tiny arm and lifted her up like a chick.
“You little brat! Are you messing with me? Am I some sort of joke to you? I am the Lord of the Glorious Demon Fortress, and you expect me to help you break some Breaking Magic Circle?!” He gritted his teeth, spittle nearly hitting Luna's face.
Luna's cheeks flushed bright red, her breath quickening as she clearly became frightened. Yet, the stubborn light in her green eyes shone through; she neither cried nor threw a tantrum.
“Get out! Come back when you’ve thought this through and are ready to discuss rebellion!” Leonard roughly pushed Luna out of the secret chamber, slamming the heavy iron door shut with a loud bang that stirred up dust and made Luna cough.
The flickering firelight from the basement spilled through the door gap, casting eerie shadows that resembled the eyes of demons—ominous and terrifying.
Standing in the darkness, Luna clenched her small fists, her heart burning with anger.
“Hmph! If you won’t help me, then fine! I can solve this myself!” She stomped her foot, her face filled with defiance.
Suddenly, an idea struck her, and her eyes brightened.
"I can go find the Book Elder! He is an authority in the magical realm and will surely help me!"
Without hesitation, Luna took a deep breath, silently reciting the spell. To her surprise, her small body began to rise slowly into the air.
She soared like a delicate butterfly, escaping the dark basement and flying towards the sunlit magical forest.
A gentle breeze brushed against her, carrying the fragrance of flowers that lifted her spirits considerably.
As she flew, Luna suddenly heard a faint cry for help, filled with despair and fear, as if someone was trapped by something.
Her heart stirred, and she followed the sound.
Navigating through the dense woods, she spotted an elderly man in a gray magic robe tightly bound by vines to a towering tree, unable to move.
The old man's face was pale, and he was drenched in sweat, clearly exhausted.
"Who is there?" he asked upon seeing Luna, a glimmer of hope flickering in his eyes. "Please, save me..."
Curious, Luna flew closer to him and tilted her head to examine him.
"Grandpa, how did you get stuck here?"
The old man sighed, his tone filled with resignation.
"Ah, it's a long story! I came to the magical forest with a few disciples to gather herbs, but we unexpectedly encountered a powerful magic beast. My disciples all fled, leaving me trapped," he said, a pained expression crossing his face. "These vines are enchanted by the beast; I cannot break free."
Luna watched the old man in pain, a flicker of sympathy rising in her heart.
She extended her small hand, murmuring incantations under her breath. A dazzling beam of light shot from her palm, striking the vines that were entwined around the old man.
The vines withered as if burned by fierce flames, quickly turning to ashes that scattered in the air.
"Thank you, little girl! You've saved my life!" The old man moved his stiff body and looked at Luna with gratitude. "Which family do you belong to? Your magical skills are quite remarkable!"
Luna smiled sweetly, revealing two adorable dimples.
"Grandpa, I'm Luna. I'm learning magic, but I've encountered some difficulties. Can you help me solve them?"
The old man gazed at Luna's innocent smile, filled with affection.
"Of course! I am an elder of the Book Sect, and I have a wealth of knowledge about magic. Come, let me see your Grimoire."
Luna happily pulled out her worn Grimoire from her pocket and handed it to the old man.
He took the Grimoire and began to examine it carefully.
As he read through it, he explained the magical principles contained within, and Luna listened intently, her face lighting up with understanding.
"So that's how it is! I finally get it!" Luna exclaimed excitedly, jumping up. "Grandpa, you're amazing!"
The old man stroked his beard, a look of satisfaction spreading across his face.
"Little girl, your Magical Talent is quite high. If you study hard, you will surely achieve great things in the future." He paused for a moment and continued, "How about this? I will officially take you as my apprentice and personally guide you in learning magic. What do you say?"
As he spoke, the old man pulled out a thick Magic Tome from his robe and handed it to Luna.
"This book contains various advanced spells from the Book Sect. Study it well, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me."
Luna looked at the hefty Magic Tome, and her smile gradually faded.
Memories of the tedious and arduous process of learning magic from her past life flooded back, filling her heart with resistance.
She took a few steps back, shook her head, and said, "Grandpa, I... I don't want to learn magic anymore..."
The old man's smile froze. He looked at Luna in confusion. "Why? Weren't you very interested in magic?"
Luna lowered her head and whispered, "I... I don't want to become a Mage..."
"This..." The old man was at a loss for words; he didn't know how to persuade Luna.
He glanced at the worn Grimoire in her hands and suddenly had an idea. His eyes lit up.
"Little girl, the Magic Circle in this book..." The old man pointed excitedly at the Magic Circle on the Grimoire. "This is not an ordinary Magic Circle; this is..."
Before he could finish his sentence, his expression changed drastically. He stared wide-eyed in terror and pointed behind Luna. "You... there's something behind you..."
Luna turned around in confusion but saw nothing.
She was about to ask the old man what he saw when she noticed his expression growing increasingly strange, as if he had witnessed something unbelievable.
"Grandpa, what's wrong?" Luna asked, puzzled.
The old man did not respond. Instead, he trembled as he extended his hand, pointing behind Luna with a voice that was almost desperate. "You... you..."
Luna tilted her head, innocently asking, "Grandpa, what is it? Is there something behind me?" As she spoke, she turned around to look, but there was nothing there—just emptiness.
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting dappled patterns of light and shadow on the ground. The air was filled with the fragrance of earth and grass; everything seemed so calm and peaceful.
However, the old man's face grew increasingly pale. His lips quivered, and his pupils dilated as if he had seen something terrifying.
"You... you behind..." he pointed at Luna's back, his voice hoarse and filled with fear.
Luna turned around again but still saw nothing.
She was starting to feel impatient and pouted her lips. "Grandpa, stop scaring me! There's nothing behind me!"
The old man seemed not to hear her words; he continued to point behind her, his gaze vacant as he muttered to himself, "Impossible... this can't be..."
Luna furrowed her brows, thinking that this old man was acting quite strangely.
Just as she was about to turn away, she suddenly felt a chill emanating from behind her, as if something were pressing against her back.
Her body went rigid with goosebumps, and an inexplicable sense of dread surged within her.
She slowly turned her head and saw a blurred figure standing behind her. The face was indistinct, but she could feel the powerful pressure emanating from it, making it hard for her to breathe.
“Ah!” Luna screamed in fright and turned to run.
She had no idea how long she had been running or where she had ended up; all she knew was that she had to keep moving forward, not daring to look back.
The old man watched as Luna fled in terror, his expression gradually returning to normal. He let out a long sigh, wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, and muttered to himself, “Thank goodness, it was just a false alarm…”
He turned to look in the direction where Luna had disappeared. “Little girl, you are truly fascinating…”
Luna gasped for breath as she ran out of the Enchanted Forest and arrived outside the Magic Market.
She leaned against her knees, panting heavily, her heart still racing.
After glancing back to ensure no one was following her, she finally felt a sense of relief.
“Phew…” She exhaled deeply, patted her chest, and reassured herself, “It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s all over…”
She lifted her head, ready to enter the Magic Market when suddenly she heard a familiar voice calling her name.
“Luna!”
Turning towards the sound, she saw a woman in a light purple Starry Gown standing not far away, looking at her with surprise.
“Sister Qin Si?” Luna recognized the newcomer as Qin Si, Aelia’s personal maid.
Qin Si hurriedly walked up to Luna and looked her up and down. "Luna, are you alright? The lady has been looking for you and is almost frantic!"
Luna shook her head and replied, "I'm fine, Sister Qin Si." She paused for a moment before adding, "I just ran into a little trouble, but it's all sorted out now."
Qin Si studied Luna, feeling that something was off about her, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
After a moment's thought, she decided to take Luna back to see Aelia.
"Luna, let's head back. The lady will be very happy to see you," Qin Si said as she took Luna's small hand and turned toward the Magic Castle.
As they walked a few steps, Luna suddenly stopped.
She turned to look back in the direction of the enchanted forest.
"Sister Qin Si," Luna said softly, "I think... I forgot something..."
Qin Si looked at Luna in confusion. "Forgot something?"
Luna furrowed her brow, trying hard to remember but unable to grasp what it was.
She shook her head and said, "I don't know. It just feels like I forgot something really important..."
She looked up at Qin Si, her eyes filled with a hint of confusion. "Sister Qin Si, are we... really going back?"
