I was walking back with A Fei, pushing our bicycles, when we ran into Situ Jianfei, who hadn't shown up in a while. "Jianfei!" we called out as we approached him. "Hey, A Fei, long time no see!" Situ Jianfei smiled and walked over to us. We set our bicycles aside and started chatting. "There are only eight days left until the final exams. How's your studying going?" Situ Jianfei asked. "Not too bad, I guess. We've been going a bit crazy lately, with our heads filled with texts, equations, and English history," I joked, and we all laughed a little. "By the way, I heard the City High League ended last week. How did your team do?" Situ Jianfei suddenly remembered something. "We got stopped in the semifinals," I replied with a casual smile. "No big deal, we'll come back next year." Situ Jianfei seemed a bit embarrassed. "By the way, I've decided to let Yanan apply to Yulin High School. I've also talked to Sha Xiaomei about it, so you guys need to keep an eye on her for me. She's been mischievous since forever, so I'm worried she'll cause some trouble again." Situ Jianfei continued. I answered without opening my eyes. "It's me! Are you still asleep, lazy pig?" came Xia Ying's voice from the other end. "Oh, Sister Ying! What can I do for you?" I quickly sat up with my eyes wide open. "Can you help me out today?" Xia Ying asked playfully. "Sure! What do you need?" I replied eagerly. "Today, Gu Youjie from Class One of Year One—he's Mei Jiao's cousin—along with Lu Zhiwei and Feng Ming want us to go hiking. It's crazy to hike in this heat, but I feel bad refusing them..." Xia Ying trailed off hesitantly. I understood immediately and jumped in: "Got it! You're going to be their flower protector, right? Mission accepted!" I said seriously while patting A Fei on the shoulder. "Hey!" A Fei shrugged off my arm.
Before long, we arrived at Lijing Park. We got there before Xia Ying and the others did, and it started getting hot. I told A Fei to wait while I went to the supermarket next door to buy two popsicles. After buying them, I headed to the checkout when suddenly someone called my name: "Xiang Jie!" Turning around, I saw Situ Yanan; I couldn't believe I'd run into her here. "You should call me Brother Jie! What are you doing here?" I asked her as she walked over. "I wanted to come play at Lijing Park today! Hey! Brother Jie, how did you know I was thirsty and came to buy popsicles? And how did you know I wasn't alone? My sisters are waiting for me outside; thanks!" She snatched the popsicles from my hand. "Wait a minute! Who bought these for you? Why are you snatching them?" I reacted quickly and grabbed the popsicles back. "Hmph! You still think of yourself as a brother? You can't even buy two popsicles for three bucks; how pathetic!" Situ Yanan let go of her grip on the popsicles, and her words made me feel a bit embarrassed. Reluctantly letting go of the popsicles, I said, "Alright, alright! I'll treat you to two popsicles; just take them and enjoy!" "Thanks, Brother!" Situ Yanan exclaimed before running out the door with the popsicles in hand. Watching her walk away made me smile helplessly.
After buying another ice cream for myself, I returned to the entrance of Lijing Park. "Where have you been? I've almost melted waiting here! Why haven't they arrived yet?" A Fei complained as he snatched the ice cream from my hand. After calming him down a bit, I called Xia Ying just as I spotted three familiar figures approaching in the distance—it was the Three Sisters! I dashed over excitedly: "Sisters! You finally made it; I thought you were going to leave us hanging!" They smiled but didn't say much. Soon after that, Gu Youjie and his friends arrived as well; they looked surprised to see A Fei and me there. Xia Ying smiled at them: "We have two new friends joining us today; I'm sure you all know Xiang Jie and Yu Chengfei from the school's basketball team—hope you don't mind hanging out together?" They forced smiles and replied awkwardly: "No problem."
We boarded the bus heading to Qingming Mountain together. On the bus ride there, Gu Youjie and his friends kept giving us strange looks that made us uncomfortable; we could only pretend not to notice it. Once we reached Qingming Mountain, we started climbing like crazy. By the time we reached the top, we were all panting heavily; there was a vendor at the summit selling drinks. "Yingying! Are you thirsty?" Gu Youjie asked Xia Ying enthusiastically. Wow! The way he called her Yingying sounded quite affectionate; it made me jealous—I wanted to give him a good punch! Xia Ying smiled slightly: "No thanks; I'm not thirsty." "How can you not be thirsty? I'll go get some water for you," Gu Youjie insisted eagerly. Suddenly an idea struck me: "That's right! How can you not be thirsty? We're all thirsty here too! You don't need to worry about her; just go get us some drinks—oh right! Get A Fei and me iced black tea." I told him confidently. Gu Youjie paused for a moment before forcing a smile and nodding: "Okay... wait here." He then dragged Lu Zhiwei and Feng Ming toward the vendor while I watched their retreating figures with satisfaction.
