After returning home, I excitedly hugged my dad as soon as I walked in, then picked up my mom. "It's summer vacation, right? Look how happy you are," my mom laughed. I nodded heavily and then went to the computer, logged onto QQ in invisible mode, and opened Crossfire. I wanted to have some fun. I even secretly charged for a Hunter and a Flying Tigers without telling my parents. Hehe, once I entered the game, I found it a bit awkward since I hadn't played for a long time. In Overwatch, I lost thirty lives before managing to take out forty enemies, but it was okay; there would be plenty of time to practice later.
The next day, I finally experienced the feeling of waking up naturally again, which was simply amazing. After getting up around nine o'clock, the sun was already high in the sky. I called Shuai Dong, who seemed not to have woken up yet. His voice was groggy. "Shuai Dong, want to hang out today?" "Jack, it's almost nine-thirty! Let's go this afternoon; it must be really hot with the sun like this," he mumbled before hanging up. I didn't expect this guy to be lazier than me. By the time I got up, my parents had already gone to work. I logged onto QQ, but Sha Xiaomei and Cookie were both offline; however, Ice Man was online.
Seeing me online, he greeted me: "Xiang Jie, good morning." "Not so early!" I quickly replied. Ice Man continued, "Summer vacation is here; do you have any plans for it?" "Not really, just staying at home," I joked with him. "By the way, in a week, the National Street Basketball Championship sponsored exclusively by Boiling Sports will start its regional qualifiers. Our city is in the North China Region too! I've heard that even the third-place team in the city gets a prize of five thousand yuan." Oh? The Street Basketball Championship is starting? The prize sounds quite tempting. "Where do we sign up?" I asked with interest in Street Basketball. "I think it's at Lijing Garden after three o'clock. Why? Are you interested?" Ice Man asked me. "I don't have that kind of skill; I'm just a basketball novice," I quickly replied. Ice Man insisted, "It doesn't matter; any sixteen-year-old boy can sign up." After chatting with him for a while, I logged off. Honestly, I was a little tempted, but... thinking about how competitive such a large-scale event would be made me feel like a high school student shouldn't get involved.
In the afternoon, I called Shuai Dong again. He said it was too hot to go anywhere and invited A Fei and Pang Hao to team up with us for Crossfire. When I called A Fei, he wasn't home; he was at the amusement park—definitely on a date with Sha Xiaomei. I suggested that the three of us team up for Street Basketball; they seemed quite interested. I thought their skills would be impressive, but they turned out to be a liability instead. After losing three games in a row, I helplessly suggested we play Crossfire instead. To my surprise, Shuai Dong had become almost god-like at Crossfire; especially with sniping—his headshot rate was an astonishing 70%. His accuracy with quick scopes and jump shots was nearly ninety percent! He really kept his skills hidden well. We played from two in the afternoon until after six when my parents came home; it was such a great time.
The next day we had another intense gaming session. After dinner, Shuai Dong called me and invited me to Disco. I was quite surprised since that wasn't really our kind of place. However, since Shuai Dong insisted repeatedly, I couldn't refuse anymore. Sigh! It seemed like it was time to experience this forbidden and mysterious place after all. I went to find A Fei; he didn't want to go to such places either. After more than half an hour of persuasion, I finally convinced him—he mustn't let Uncle Yu and Aunt Yu know! Before long, we gathered at the entrance of Feilang Disco; Shuai Dong and Pang Hao couldn't make it due to other commitments. As I saw the flickering neon lights at the Disco entrance, it felt somewhat eerie. "Shuai Dong, maybe I shouldn't go in," I started having second thoughts.
"Why are you hesitating? I'm only here for the second time! The last time with Zhao Bin was so relaxing—it’s simply enjoyable," Shuai Dong started encouraging me. "Shuai Dong, I'm really not keen on going inside." A Fei also looked troubled about it; however, Shuai Dong stubbornly insisted we shouldn't go back and pulled us into the Disco instead. Once inside, the colorful lights were blinding and the music deafeningly loud with an incredibly strong rhythm; many people were dancing wildly to the powerful beats while A Fei shook his head at them. Shuai Dong dragged us over to sit on one side while this noisy music overwhelmed me.
"Shuai Dong, I'm leaving; it's too loud," I said as I turned to leave. A Fei quickly followed me out as well; once outside it felt much better. I turned back and asked A Fei: "So how do you feel about it?" A Fei shook his head: "Not great; this place is really chaotic." Haha! It seems both A Fei and I are good kids; Shuai Dong came out: "Why did you guys come out? Alright alright; if you're not used to it then let's just walk around!"
We walked along the main road chatting as we went. "A Fei, how are things going with Sha Xiaomei lately?" Shuai Dong asked him. A Fei smiled: "It's fine; we're not those overly flashy types—it's nice being plain and simple." "Haha! That's good! Jack, what about you? Any progress with Xia Ying?" To my surprise, Shuai Dong seemed quite concerned about us. "Not really; it seems I've never confessed to her," I thought for a moment before replying. A Fei chuckled: "Jack, the longer you wait to confess will give Xia Ying the impression that you don't care about her—and others might take advantage of that." A Fei had quite a way with words! "Yeah yeah; it's time to make a move," Shuai Dong chimed in as well. Sigh! Actually, it's not that I don't want to confess—it's just that I'm unsure how to tell her that I like her...
