When we arrived, Jiang Lingfeng was indeed waiting at the entrance of Lijing Park. We headed towards the familiar court number one. I noticed that the other three temporary courts had already been dismantled. The Fantasi team wore all-white jerseys, and their three players were quite tall; the shortest among them was about A Fei's height, while the tallest was around six feet three inches. The three stood together discussing something. The Freedom team wore all-black jerseys, with varying heights; the tallest and shortest were about six inches apart. The tallest player had a thick stubble and tied his hair back in a ponytail; looking at him, one might doubt if he was really under twenty-two years old.
After a while, the referee signaled for them to finalize their tactical deployment as the match was about to start. Both teams entered the court, indicating they were ready. The referee began tossing a coin; it was Freeman's possession. After Freeman made the inbound pass, their Point Guard received the ball and passed it behind him to a rushing Center. The latter caught it and dunked it successfully. Surprisingly, this short player had some impressive passing skills! After Fantasi made their inbound pass, their Center held onto the ball while Freeman's Center came over to defend him; Fantasi's Center shot from beyond the three-point line and scored! It's remarkable that such a tall Center could shoot three-pointers! These two teams are quite interesting; they play differently from what is considered conventional basketball and each has its own unique style—this match is going to be exciting!
Freeman continued with their inbound pass; after receiving it, their Point Guard controlled it before suddenly accelerating towards the basket. However, once he got there, he lost possession of the ball—it turned out that Fantasi's Point Guard had quickly stolen it! Fantasi's Point Guard swiftly passed it to a forward who sprinted towards the corner; just when we thought he would shoot a three-pointer, he executed a 360-degree spin while performing an agile "butterfly step" to evade the opposing forward before scoring from an angle! This dreamy "Lingbo Microstep" makes me wonder if Jiang Lingfeng will be able to handle it when we face them in the finals! After Freeman made another inbound pass, their short Point Guard controlled the ball while Fantasi's Point Guard approached for defense. Standing next to Fantasi's Point Guard, Freeman's short Point Guard looked like a child next to him! Suddenly, this short Point Guard passed the ball through Fantasi's legs; Freeman's forward received it and cut towards their Center for an easy layup... Both sides were exchanging blows fiercely.
"Who do you think has a better chance of winning?" I turned my head and saw Jiang Lingfeng and A Fei completely focused on watching the game; they didn’t even hear my question, so I decided not to bother them anymore and turned back to watch.
Both teams continued trading baskets in an offensive showdown; with only three minutes left in regulation time, they were tied! One can imagine how intense their offensive firepower was! However, in those last three minutes, both sides suddenly shifted into defensive mode. Freeman's short Point Guard held onto the ball before passing behind him to their Center who charged towards the basket for a dunk attempt. At that moment, Fantasi's Center jumped up simultaneously and blocked his shot! The Fantasi forward grabbed the rebound and passed it out to their Point Guard who quickly took a three-pointer from near the top of the arc; due to his height disadvantage of over ten centimeters, Freeman's short Point Guard couldn't block it—but then Freeman’s forward leaped up from behind and managed to intercept the floating ball mid-air before handing it back to their short Point Guard who darted into the paint like a fish and scored! Unexpectedly, this would be Freeman’s only score within two minutes of playtime left in this match! The speed of transition between offense and defense was astonishing—only thirty seconds remained in regulation time with Freeman leading by five points against Fantasi.
"It seems that whether Freeman can win this match will depend heavily on their short Point Guard," Jiang Lingfeng suddenly remarked while intently watching the game. A Fei nodded in agreement: "Yeah, actually Fantasi's Point Guard isn't weak either; it's just that he's not as agile as Freedom Team's Point Guard—height isn't always an advantage in street basketball." Listening from beside them left me puzzled; why did these two suddenly come up with such nonsensical remarks?
