"I'm really touched, I don't know how to repay you," Ya quickly replied. I chuckled and said to her, "How about dedicating yourself to me? I happen to need a girlfriend, and you're just the one!" I was teasing her. "You're so annoying, stop joking..." Ya ended with an ellipsis, which made me feel she was shy; she probably blushed. I thought I had gone too far with the joke, so I quickly explained, "I was just kidding, don't take it seriously. I'm just a playful person, hehe." Ya responded, "Hehe, I know you're joking. I'm not upset." I found myself increasingly interested in this gentle and refined lady.
After dinner, I was lying in bed playing "Assassin's Creed" on my phone when suddenly my QQ avatar flashed. When I opened it, it was a message from Ya: "Jie, are you going to the park tonight?" I quickly replied, "What about you? Are you going? If you go, I'll go." Hehe, just teasing this innocent girl. After sending the message, I closed the chat box and continued playing. About twenty minutes later, my avatar flashed again; it was another message from Ya: "I have to wait a bit before I can go; I'm still at work. Is 8:30 okay?" After thinking for a moment, I replied, "Sure, it's boring staying in the room anyway." "Okay then, see you at the park at 8:30," Ya said before logging off. I fell into contemplation; I didn't expect this girl to be so innocent. I was just joking around, and she took it seriously. Sigh, silly girl.
After a while, Shuai Dong walked in and headed straight for my bedside. "Dong Ge, what's up?" I asked without looking up. "I... I..." Shuai Dong stammered and couldn't get his words out. "Come on, spit it out! You're a grown man; why are you being so hesitant? Do you want to give me a headache?" His behavior started to annoy me a bit. Finally, Shuai Dong hesitantly said, "Jie, you know that girl Sha Ya, right? I..." "Stop! No need for that; I'm powerless to help," I interrupted him before he could finish. Just as I guessed, Shuai Dong had his eyes on Wang Yaqian and wanted me to play matchmaker for them; no way.
"No, Jie! Wait until I'm done! What I meant was..." Shuai Dong continued. I immediately cut him off: "I get it; you want me to help you become friends with Wang Yaqian! I've already figured out your little schemes." "Hehe," Shuai Dong scratched his head awkwardly. "Since you've guessed it, I'll be honest; why don't you help me?" "Because she doesn't like you," I laid it all out for him. Shuai Dong looked disheartened: "How do you know?!" "Because she's a good girl; she's purer than crystal clear water." I looked up and met Shuai Dong's gaze as he became agitated: "So it's my fault? Am I not good enough for her?!"
I ignored him and burrowed under the covers to sleep. "Hey hey hey! Jie, you're really not being a good bro! You..." Shuai Dong kept nagging beside me; it was really annoying. Fortunately, after a while of talking, he got tired of it and went back to his own room. Alone under the covers listening to music and playing games, suddenly my QQ flashed again; it was Ya: "I've arrived at the park; where are you?" It suddenly hit me that I had an appointment with Ya. Looking at the time, it was already 8:40. I quickly threw on some clothes and headed out the door. A Fei called from behind: "Jie! Where are you going?" Without turning back, I shouted back: "Going for a late-night snack!" and dashed off.
Once outside, I ran like crazy. After about twenty minutes of sprinting, I finally reached the park and saw Ya sitting on a bench. I rushed over and said breathlessly, "You... you really came!" Struggling to catch my breath while holding my stomach down made me feel like the wound on my head would tear open again; it hurt badly. "Don't run so fast! You still have an injury on your head," Ya said as she helped me up. After resting on the bench for a while and feeling better, I turned to tease her: "So are we calling this a date?" "What are you talking about? Don't be ridiculous!" Ya warned me seriously as she turned her head away. Realizing that my joke might have gone too far, I quickly apologized: "I'm sorry! It was just a joke."
We sat there in silence; neither of us spoke. Perhaps we were both shy types sitting at opposite ends of the bench. Finally breaking the silence, I asked, "Is there anything you want to talk about?" Ya remained silent. "Then I'm leaving," I said as I stood up and started walking away. Suddenly Ya called from behind: “Jie! When is your next match?” Her question piqued my interest as I turned around: “Oh! How could I forget to share this exciting news with you? We defeated Horsemen Team today and achieved three consecutive victories to advance to the semifinals!” “Yay! Congratulations! Keep it up; I'm rooting for you.” Ya cheered excitedly. “When is the semifinal match?” “Tomorrow morning at 8:30.” “Got it.”
The next morning as I stepped outside, Shuai Dong was waiting by the door. “Shuai Dong! What are you doing here so early?” I yawned at him. “Xiang Jie! You jerk!” Shuai Dong suddenly cursed at me fiercely. “Dong Ge! What’s gotten into you? It's just that I'm not introducing Wang Yaqian to you; is that worth getting so worked up over?” I squinted sleepily and replied casually. “If it weren't for your injury today I'd teach you a lesson!” Shuai Dong scolded sternly. His fierce gaze startled me awake; I'd never seen him so serious before—he usually had a playful expression mixed with some narcissism. Looking into his eyes made me ask: “What’s wrong? What did I do wrong? Can’t you point it out instead of acting like this?” Laughing lightly as I pushed his shoulder playfully. “Don’t touch me! Jie! How can you act like this?” Shuai Dong continued to vent his anger at me.
“Are you on drugs or something?! Why are you saying these things out of nowhere?” My patience wore thin; this was simply unreasonable!
