Though Master Zhang's heart was as calm as an ancient well, the arrogance in Jiang Chen's tone was undeniable. He had the audacity to claim that Gu Yun Nan and Jia Xingliang were lacking in skill. After all, they were among the top mages of Kong Island. As a senior in the martial arts world and a master of Daoist Techniques, Master Zhang would never dare to speak so dismissively.
"You have no right to say that Master Gu and Master Jia are lacking," Master Zhang said, his voice heavy with authority, his sharp gaze locking onto Jiang Chen.
Jiang Chen chuckled lightly, his demeanor one of disdain. While it was true that Master Zhang possessed considerable abilities, in Jiang Chen's eyes, he remained insignificant.
"Do not cling to your delusions. No matter how powerful you think your techniques are, you must not be arrogant or take lives unnecessarily. You are still young; I am giving you a chance. If you can recognize your mistakes, there is still hope for you. But if you refuse to listen, destruction awaits," Master Zhang's voice rang out like a warning bell in the air, shaking the heart and imparting a sense of enlightenment.
"Master Zhang, your words mean nothing to me. If I believe someone deserves to die, I will not be stopped by anyone. And what right do you have to dictate to me?" Jiang Chen replied with a faint smile, each word like a blade piercing Master Zhang's heart. The older man’s face changed dramatically as he took two steps back, never having imagined that he would be reprimanded by a mere youth. For a moment, Master Zhang was rendered speechless by anger.
Jiang Chen stood proudly, his tone seemingly calm yet aggressively confrontational. As Master Zhang regained his composure, he stepped forward and fixed his gaze on Jiang Chen.
"How laughable! It seems you have already fallen into the path of darkness. Since ancient times, Longhu Mountain has taken it upon itself to eliminate evil and uphold righteousness. If you refuse to repent, then I must act on behalf of justice and ensure you cannot continue," Master Zhang declared ominously.
Jiang Chen was even more hopeless than he had anticipated—arrogant and clearly bloodthirsty. His cultivation of supernatural powers was solely for killing; this could not be allowed to continue. If left unchecked, he would surely become a great menace in the future.
Master Zhang was a man with a strong sense of justice. He believed that as the guardian of Longhu Mountain and the Thunder Seal, it was his duty to uphold righteousness and punish evil. Seeing Jiang Chen speak so lightly about killing made him regard him as an agent of chaos. Since words could not awaken him from his delusions, only force would suffice.
As Master Zhang’s fury mounted, Jiang Luyi felt some concern that Master Zhang might not show mercy and could harm Jiang Chen severely. Although Jiang Chen was formidable, Jiang Luyi could not be sure if he stood a chance against Master Zhang, who was also quite renowned.
"Master Zhang, are you certain you can match me?" Jiang Chen asked with an unruffled smile.
The question further provoked Master Zhang.
"You are too arrogant! Just because you've practiced Daoist Techniques for a few years does not mean you can look down on everyone else. Do you really think our thousand-year legacy at Longhu Mountain is just empty talk?" Master Zhang's tone grew grave.
"One could say that," Jiang Chen replied dismissively.
"What bold words! Today, I shall experience your skills firsthand and see what gives you the audacity to speak such nonsense," Master Zhang said with a face as stern as iron before lightly leaping down from the pavilion onto the lake's surface.
Master Zhang's sudden movement startled Jiang Luyi, an ordinary person; however, when Master Zhang landed on the water, it was as if he had stepped onto solid ground, creating only gentle ripples around him.
