The Flame Dragon surged forward, carrying with it a wave of scorching heat that enveloped Lia and Kalan in an instant. The colossal beast opened its massive jaws and unleashed a thick column of fire. Kalan quickly shielded Lia behind him, unleashing the Dark Moon Power to form a dark red magical barrier in front of them. The flames collided with the barrier, sending countless sparks flying and producing a deafening roar. The magical shield trembled slightly under the intense heat, as if it could shatter at any moment.
"Lia, find its weakness! I'll hold it off!" Kalan shouted, his voice resolute despite the howling flames. His silver hair glimmered with an eerie red hue in the fire's glow, and although his body trembled from exertion, his eyes were filled with determination.
Lia quickly regained her composure, scanning the massive form of the dragon. The Flame Dragon was surrounded by blazing fire, its hard scales gleaming like metal, making it difficult for ordinary attacks to inflict real damage. Suddenly, she noticed that the scales on its abdomen were relatively sparse, revealing a brief vulnerability each time it flapped its wings.
"Kalan, aim for its belly! The defense there is weaker!" Lia shouted, rummaging through her Experimental Pack for various materials to concoct a potion that could counter the dragon's flames.
Upon hearing her command, Kalan moved like lightning, leaping high into the air with the aid of Dark Moon Power. His claws shimmered with a silver light as he aimed for the dragon's abdomen. The dragon sensed danger and twisted its body, attempting to sweep Kalan away with its tail. Kalan agilely maneuvered in mid-air, dodging the tail and successfully leaving deep claw marks on the dragon's belly.
The dragon roared in pain and fury, spewing flames from its mouth that sent molten waves surging high from the surrounding lava pools. As lava splashed onto the ground, it instantly melted the rocks, intensifying the acrid smell of sulfur. Kalan landed swiftly after his attack; some of his fur had been singed by the flames, but he ignored the pain and prepared for another strike.
Meanwhile, Lia was anxiously crafting her potion. Sweat beaded on her forehead and evaporated almost instantly in the heat. She ground special ores into powder, mixed in some strange herbal juices, and catalyzed them with magic. After several attempts, she finally created a potion that emitted a ghostly blue glow.
"Kalan, try this!" Lia called out as she tossed the potion to him. Without hesitation, Kalan caught it and splashed it over himself. The moment the potion touched his skin, a blue light enveloped him, effectively shielding him from the intense heat of the flames.
With the potion's protection, Kalan's attacks became even more ferocious. He charged toward the Flame Dragon again, this time leaping onto its back and relentlessly tearing at its scales with his claws. The dragon thrashed wildly in an attempt to throw Kalan off.
Lia looked for an opportunity to assist Kalan. She realized that the dragon's eyes were a critical weak point; although surrounded by flames, if she could find the right moment to strike, she could deal significant damage. She picked up a magically infused stone and waited for the perfect opportunity.
As Kalan battled fiercely with the dragon, Lia finally saw her chance. During one of its rolls, the dragon briefly exposed its eye. Focusing her magic, she hurled the stone at its eye with precision. The stone struck true, infused with powerful magic.
The dragon howled in agony as one eye was hit; its movements became frantic. Seizing this moment, Kalan intensified his assault by channeling Dark Moon Power into his claws and plunging them deep into the dragon's back. As he injected this power into it, something strange began to happen—the once-vibrant flames flickered uncertainly.
"Now's our chance!" Lia shouted. She quickly concocted another potion designed to suppress flames and sprayed it toward the dragon. The potion dispersed in mid-air, forming a blue mist that enveloped the creature. The dragon struggled wildly within the mist as its flames gradually diminished.
Kalan seized this opportunity and drove his claws deep into the dragon’s vital spot with all his strength. The dragon let out a desperate roar before slowly plummeting from the sky and crashing heavily into the lava pool below, sending up massive splashes of molten rock.
As the dragon fell, cracks appeared on the Fire Crystal encasing the Moonlight Gem within it. Without pausing for rest, Kalan and Lia rushed to the Fire Crystal's side. Using Dark Moon Power, Kalan shattered its outer shell while Lia carefully extracted the second Moonlight Gem.
As she held the Moonlight Gem in her hand, a cool power surged through Lia’s palm—a stark contrast to the surrounding heat. The blue light emanating from the gem seemed to dispel some of the Fire Mountain Range’s oppressive warmth, providing a momentary relief for their weary bodies.
"We've succeeded in obtaining another one," Lia said with a satisfied smile as she looked at the Moonlight Gem in her hand; however, fatigue still lingered in her eyes.
"Yes, but we can't let our guard down; three more gems await us," Kalan replied with a frown. He could distinctly feel fluctuations within him from Dark Moon Power; during their battle with Flame Dragon, it had been restless at times as if being drawn by some force.
The two departed from Fire Mountain Range with their second Moonlight Gem in hand. According to their clues, their next destination was a mysterious misty forest shrouded in fog year-round—a place teeming with strange creatures and hidden magical traps.
As they stepped into Misty Forest, thick fog immediately surrounded them; visibility diminished drastically to just a few meters ahead. Lia and Kalan proceeded cautiously while Kalan relied on his keen sense of smell and hearing to navigate through the mist.
Not long after they began their journey, they encountered a group of Mist Sprites—tiny creatures radiating faint mist who possessed abilities to manipulate fog for confusion and attack against intruders.
Upon spotting Lia and Kalan, the Mist Sprites launched an immediate assault by forming various weapons out of mist—like mist swords and mist darts—aiming them at both of them. Kalan quickly conjured a shield using magic to fend off their attacks.
Meanwhile, Lia attempted to communicate with them; she understood that brute force might not be the best solution in this mysterious forest. Channeling her power as a Moonlight Priestess, she emitted gentle magical waves to convey goodwill toward the Mist Sprites.
The Mist Sprites seemed to sense Lia's goodwill, and their attacks gradually ceased. One slightly larger Mist Sprite flew in front of Lia and communicated with her in a peculiar language. Although Lia couldn't understand the words, she grasped the general meaning through her magical perception.
It turned out that the Mist Sprites guarded this forest and were very wary of outsiders. They sensed that Lia and Kalan possessed special powers and were concerned that they might pose a threat to the forest. Lia explained their intentions to the Mist Sprites, hoping to gain their assistance.
After a brief discussion, the Mist Sprites agreed to help them find the Moonlight Gem, but only on the condition that they promised to protect the forest and not disrupt its balance. Lia and Kalan gladly accepted.
Under the guidance of the Mist Sprites, they navigated through the forest. Along the way, the Mist Sprites helped them avoid many dangerous magical traps. Finally, they arrived at the core area of the forest, where beneath a massive ancient tree, they found the third Moonlight Gem.
The Moonlight Gem was embedded in the trunk of the ancient tree, emitting a soft glow that blended with the surrounding mist, creating an aura of mystery. Lia stepped forward and gently removed the Moonlight Gem. Just then, a violent tremor shook the forest; the ground began to quake, and trees toppled over.
A gigantic Mist Beast emerged from underground. This colossal creature loomed like a mountain, shrouded in thick mist that obscured its true form. It let out a deep roar that reverberated painfully in their ears, clearly enraged by the removal of the Moonlight Gem.
The Mist Beast charged toward Lia and Kalan, leaving destruction in its wake wherever it went. Kalan and Lia quickly reacted; they knew they were about to face yet another difficult battle…
