Aelia's fingers trembled as she stroked Luna's soft hair, her gaze vacant, as if her soul had been stripped away.
Luna's innocent words pierced through the carefully woven fabric of Aelia's happiness like a sharp dagger.
How many nights had she nestled in Leonard's embrace, listening to his tender sweet nothings? Now, reflecting on those moments felt so ironic, so painfully piercing.
"Luna, please... say it again," Aelia's voice was hoarse, trembling with disbelief, as if grasping at the last straw of hope, praying for a miracle to appear.
Luna held Aelia's hand tightly, her eyes resolute. "Mother, Father... he has another woman outside, and a child..."
It was as if a bolt of lightning struck; Aelia's face turned pale instantly, her lips quivering but unable to produce any sound.
She staggered back a few steps and collapsed into a chair, tears silently streaming down her cheeks, leaving two shocking trails on her delicate makeup.
"It can't be... it can't be..." Aelia murmured to herself, her eyes hollow, as if she had lost her very soul.
She could not accept this cruel reality. After years of love for Leonard and dedication to their family, it all ended in such betrayal.
Seeing Aelia in pain twisted Luna's heart with sorrow.
She knew this blow was devastating for Aelia.
But she had to be strong, for herself and for this family.
"Mother, you must pull yourself together!" Luna's voice rang clear and firm, like a beacon of light in the darkness, illuminating Aelia's confused heart.
"We cannot let this defeat us!"
Just then, Leonard pushed the door open, wearing a smug smile on his face.
Upon seeing Aelia's disheveled state, he paused for a moment before feigning concern and asking, "Aelia, what's wrong?"
"Leonard!" Aelia shot up suddenly, her eyes red and fixed on him with unyielding anger and sorrow. "Why would you do this to me?"
Leonard's smile froze on his face; his gaze flickered as he dared not meet Aelia's eyes.
He stammered an explanation. "Aelia, let me explain..."
"Explain?" Aelia roared, tears spilling from her eyes. "What is there to explain? Luna saw everything; what more do you have to say?"
At the mention of Luna's name, Leonard's expression darkened further.
He shot a fierce glare at Luna, cursing the little girl for being so meddlesome in his mind.
"Luna, children shouldn't speak out of turn!" Leonard said with forced calmness.
“I didn’t speak carelessly!” Luna met his gaze fearlessly. “I saw you with that woman, and… and…”
Before Luna could finish her sentence, her eldest brother, Second Brother, and Brother San rushed over upon hearing the news. They had long suspected Leonard's behavior, and now, with Luna’s testimony, their anger boiled over.
“Leonard, you have truly disappointed us!” the eldest brother scolded.
“How could you do such a thing? Do you even care about Aelia?” Second Brother chimed in with accusations.
“You… you’re nothing but a beast!” Brother San exclaimed, his outrage spilling over into harsh words.
Faced with their accusations, Leonard was filled with shame and anger but found himself at a loss for words. Panic surged within him as he desperately tried to defend himself. “This… this is all a misunderstanding…”
“Enough!” Aelia interrupted him, her voice cold as if it came from the depths of hell. “I don’t want to hear any more of your excuses!”
Qin Si gently patted Aelia’s back, offering comfort. “Madam, please take care of yourself.” Her gaze towards Leonard was filled with disappointment and discontent.
Even the usually silent Lucius couldn’t hold back any longer. “Father, you… you’ve let me down.”
Leonard’s face shifted from pale to flushed; he hadn’t expected things to escalate to this point. He thought that as long as he was careful, no one would find out. However, he had underestimated Luna’s observant nature and the family’s love for Aelia.
With the support of her family, Aelia gradually regained her composure. She wiped away her tears and looked resolutely at Leonard. “Leonard, I won’t let you get away with this! You will pay for your actions!”
Luna felt a sense of relief seeing Aelia’s determined expression. She knew Aelia had emerged from her sorrow; she would seek justice for herself and her family.
Everyone looked at Aelia, aware that the road ahead would be challenging, but they were united in facing it together. The air in the Magic Castle was thick with tension, reminiscent of the calm before a storm.
Watching her family stand united strengthened Luna’s resolve to continue breaking through the obstacles ahead. She understood that the journey to change her family’s destiny had only just begun…
Luna walked over to the cradle and gently stroked her brother inside it, a subtle smile gracing her lips.
"Little One, your Zhua Zhou Ceremony is approaching..."
