"Call A Fei over, let's gather the Dream Chasers," Jiang Lingfeng said. As I took out my phone, I replied, "Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing. I'll call him right now." I dialed A Fei's number, and Jiang Lingfeng smiled, signaling me to hand him the phone. I passed it over. "Hello, A Fei, do you know who this is? You guessed right! I'm at Jie Family right now, hurry over!" Jiang Lingfeng laughed heartily. Before long, there was a knock on the door. I quickly walked over to open it, and when A Fei came in, he looked around the living room with a searching gaze. Upon seeing Jiang Lingfeng, he dashed over. "Hey! Captain, I've missed you so much!" After they embraced tightly, the three of us from Dream Chasers were finally reunited; it had been a year since we last felt this way.
"Captain, how did you guys do against Hejiang High School? You must have played against City No. 1 in the Quarterfinals yesterday, right?" I asked him. "Come on, Dream Chasers, let's eat some fruit." Just then, my mom brought over a fruit platter, and my dad happily sat down next to us. I quickly said to them, "Mom and Dad, could you please step aside for a bit? We three brothers want to catch up without you two interrupting." My parents exchanged glances and replied, "Okay, okay, we'll step aside," before heading into their room. Only then did Jiang Lingfeng slowly say, "We won against City No. 1 with a score of 10890."
"That's seven consecutive wins! Impressive! You're undefeated in this year's City High League! Captain, it looks like after Du Feilong graduates, you'll be taking the throne as the city's top point guard 'Wind God' Jiang Lingfeng!" I exclaimed in surprise.
Jiang Lingfeng smiled and said, "I'm already in my third year this year; it's my last season in the City High League. I hope to fulfill my dream of leading my team to the Olympic Sports Center. This is my last chance to compete for the championship; I don't want to graduate with regrets." His eyes revealed a firm belief. I remembered that Jiang Lingfeng once said his dream was to become a savior like Chris Paul. "What about you guys? I heard you faced the Rookie Team from City No. 2; it seems like Chu Yuetao and Jia Yu along with Pei Xinliang are on that team now. I remember when we played against Fierce Fox Team last year; those three were from City No. 2 back then. They must have made it to the top eight this year."
"Yeah, and Chu Yuetao has improved so fast! We barely won in the last second yesterday! Jia Yu and Pei Xinliang have also made great strides; they're no longer part of that short team anymore; they've all grown significantly," A Fei and Jiang Lingfeng said seriously. "Don't be nervous; you've already won one game, right? The pressure should be on City No. 2 now. As I've said before, I'll be waiting for you at the Olympic Sports Center; don't let me down," Jiang Lingfeng patted our shoulders.
"Yes, we'll work hard! We'll see each other at the Olympic Sports Center!" Our hands tightly clasped together. "Here, have some popsicles." My mom brought over three ice creams. After handing them to A Fei and Jiang Lingfeng, I told my mom, "Mom, your mission is complete; please continue to step aside." Noticing that it was getting late, I called A Fei and Jiang Lingfeng to go out for dinner. After saying goodbye to my mom and asking for some money, we headed out.
As we walked down the street, we unknowingly found ourselves at the entrance of Lijing Park again. We all stopped to look at the sign for the Fever Sports National Street Basketball Championship; it had completely vanished as if it had never been built at all. Jiang Lingfeng stared blankly at Lijing Garden: "This is where our dream began; it's also where we won our first city championship trophy..." A Fei nodded slowly: "Yeah, even though we were busy competing all summer long for a month back then, it was truly happy times..." I put my arms around their shoulders: "Come on, let's go inside and take a look!"
We walked through the entrance of Lijing Park. "Hey! The Street Basketball champions are back!" As soon as we entered, a tourist greeted us. I was pleasantly surprised that someone still remembered us. "Hey bro, how do you still recognize us?" I asked curiously. The guy smiled: "Of course! We all know about you guys! Hehe, since you won the City Finals and North China finals were broadcasted on TV; we watched you dominate nationwide! When you represented Cangzhou to win the National Championship that day, we celebrated together for half a month! Thinking back on that scene from last year is still fresh in my memory."
For some reason, after hearing this guy's words, I felt a bit moved inside. He continued asking us: "Dream Chasers, will you continue chasing your dreams this year?" The three of us exchanged glances unsure of how to respond until Jiang Lingfeng spoke first: "Of course! We're currently chasing our dreams; it's just that this time it's not street basketball but our school's city high school basketball league!"
We continued walking forward as A Fei pointed at an empty space: "This seems like where we played our group matches; that's where we played the semifinals..." Familiar feelings and scenes flooded back as we strolled around Lijing Park; it was still dimly lit and cool outside. Suddenly I noticed two girls arguing ahead; as we got closer, I realized it was Situ Yanan and Xia Ying! What were they doing here?
"Yanan! Yingying!" I called out to them as I ran over with Jiang Lingfeng and A Fei following behind me. Once there, I asked them: "What are you two doing?" Xia Ying was fuming with anger as she glared at Situ Yanan: "Nothing! Situ Yanan is just looking for trouble!" "What about you? Say that again!" Situ Yanan retorted defiantly as she seemed ready to confront her again. Xia Ying's temper flared completely: "You're looking for trouble! Did you hear me?! Is there something wrong with your ears?!"
"Alright! Let's all calm down here ladies; what's going on?" I stood between them as Xia Ying spoke first: "Jie, let me ask you one thing: Am I your girlfriend?" "Yes, you're my only girlfriend," I replied to her. "Oh brother Jie! Don't be fooled by her innocent appearance; I've often seen her hanging out closely with those Three Sisters and Xie Zhinan!" Situ Yanan pulled me aside which made Jiang Lingfeng and A Fei awkwardly sit off to one side upon witnessing this scene.
