"No one hates you," I sighed, "it's you who pushed everyone away." 0
"That's because they want to take you from me!" She suddenly became agitated. "Especially your mother; she always flaunts in front of me, claiming she knows everything about you. Who does she think she is? You are my husband!" 0
In that moment, I fully understood that her world was filled only with twisted love and possession, devoid of reason. 0
I made a decision: I couldn't let her hurt my mother, my son, or anyone else. 0
I had to end this. 0
As a lawyer, I understood the consequences of crime all too well, but at that moment, my reason was crushed by despair. 0
I bought a dumbbell, a heavy iron one. 0
I told myself that using this would at least make her go quickly, without too much pain. 0
How ridiculous it was; even while planning a murder, I thought about being "merciful." 0
To give myself a final farewell and to provide this marriage with a "decent" ending, I decided to take her to a special place. 0
"Juan, let's go to the Maxim restaurant this weekend, the place where we first met." I tried to keep my voice calm. 0
"Really?" Her eyes lit up. "Is there a special occasion?" 0
"I just want to have a nice meal with you." I forced a smile. 0
That night, the Maxim restaurant remained elegant as ever. 0
Juan wore a light blue dress, just like the one she had on when we first met. 0
She looked so beautiful and so fragile that I momentarily doubted my decision. 0
"Do you remember our first time here?" she asked me with a smile. "The moment I saw you, I knew you were the one destined for me." 0
"I remember," I replied softly, but in my heart, I thought: if only time could turn back, I would never step into this restaurant again. 0
After dinner, we returned home. 0
She seemed very happy and talked all the way about future plans. 0
Meanwhile, I felt like an observer, watching her paint a picture of a future that would never come to pass. 0
"I'm so happy today," she said as she changed into her pajamas and snuggled under the covers. "Thank you, Zhenbin." 0
"Go to sleep," I kissed her forehead. 0

She quickly fell asleep. 0
I lay beside her, staring at the ceiling. 0
A voice kept echoing in my ear: "You can't do this; it's murder." 0
Another voice countered, "If you don't do this, the next one to die could be your mother, or your son, or even yourself." 0
Then, I quietly got up and retrieved the dumbbell from deep within the closet. 0
I stood by the bed, watching Yuan Juan as she slept. 0
Moonlight streamed through the curtains, casting a gentle glow on her serene face. 0
She looked so peaceful, so harmless, just like the gentle girl I had first met. 0
My hand began to tremble. 0
I recalled our first date, her shy smile; I remembered our wedding day, the tears in her eyes; I thought of the day we moved into our new home, her hopeful expression... 0
But then, other images flashed through my mind: her hysterical screams, her threats of suicide with a knife, her madness as she tampered with gas and gasoline at my mother's house... 0
Reason told me that the woman sleeping before me was a ticking time bomb, capable of destroying everything I held dear at any moment. 0
In the end, I raised the dumbbell. 0
I told myself: "This isn't murder; it's self-defense. This isn't about ending a life; it's about saving many more." 0
