Fifteen minutes later, in the restaurant on the second floor of the hotel, Jiang Chen invited Xiong Sumei to dinner, but she felt a bit awkward.
"How about we eat together?" Xiong Sumei suggested.
"Forget it, I'll just eat by myself," Jiang Chen replied, not wanting to sit with Qian Wenwu and his group. He found a spot and began eating alone.
Xiong Sumei sighed, deciding not to bother with Jiang Chen anymore. She joined Qian Wenwu's table, while the bodyguards sat at two other tables.
"Sumei, you can't be really interested in that guy, right? He’s just putting on a show, trying to save face while suffering for it. You should keep your distance; make sure he doesn't catch a ride tomorrow," Chen Shuifeng remarked.
"It’s fine; let him go back to Tianfu City by plane since there’s no airport here. He said he lives in Shanghai," Xiong Sumei replied, her impression of Jiang Chen surprisingly not bad at the moment.
"Does he really live in Shanghai? Ha!" Chen Shuifeng scoffed.
"That's what he said. Don’t overthink it. Since I promised to take him to Tianfu City, I’ll keep my word," Xiong Sumei insisted firmly.
"Alright then, if you want to be a good person, go ahead. Just remember that being good doesn’t always come with rewards. That guy who tried to scam you earlier picked you because he’s a jinx," Chen Shuifeng warned.
"He's not a jinx; his luck is actually quite remarkable," Xiong Sumei laughed, recalling the snow earlier that day with a sense of wonder.
While they were chatting, several people suddenly walked in through the restaurant door. Leading them was a stocky man in his fifties wearing a long coat and a necklace of sky beads; his rugged appearance immediately suggested he was someone not to be trifled with. The middle-aged man who had attempted to scam them earlier was beside him—presumably the boss he had mentioned.
As soon as they entered, their eyes scanned the room and landed on Qian Wenwu's table as they strode over confidently.
Qian Wenwu and his companions remained seated, calm and unafraid. They had expected a larger group but were relieved to see only a few individuals—hardly worth worrying about.
The boss looked at Qian Wenwu with a fierce expression that softened into a cold smile as he spoke, "I am Jin Shengkai. I heard you damaged one of my antiques and refused to compensate me for it. Is this true?"
"Brother Wu, who is Jin Shengkai? Have you heard of him?" Li Chengdu asked with a grin as he leaned back in his chair.
"This is obvious; Brother Wu definitely doesn’t know him—a small-time boss like him could never catch our attention," Sun Rong laughed heartily.
Qian Wenwu also wore an expression of disdain as he crossed his legs and raised his wine glass, taking a sip of red wine before responding with a smirk, "Boss Jin, there is indeed such an incident, but it wasn’t my friend who damaged your antique; rather, your subordinate crashed into my friend’s car voluntarily. We’re not asking for compensation from you; how dare you come to us for it?"
Jin Shengkai's face twitched slightly but showed no anger; instead, he surveyed Qian Wenwu and his companions with an indifferent smile and said, "It doesn’t matter if you don’t know me; as long as you can read."
As he spoke, he signaled to someone beside him, who then tossed a stack of certificates onto the table.
"This is the appraisal certificate for my antique, along with the auction certificate and receipt from when I purchased it," Jin Shengkai stated coolly.
Qian Wenwu and the others picked up these so-called pieces of evidence and examined them; indeed, the Blue and White Porcelain Plate was valued at ten million.
