"Is this the Time Device?" Chen Yu asked in a low voice. I nodded, filled with excitement and anxiety. Just then, my scanner suddenly beeped, and the screen displayed a familiar life signal—my father's life signal!
"Father! He's here!" I exclaimed, running towards the direction of the signal, with Chen Yu closely following behind. We dashed through corridor after corridor until we reached a sealed chamber. The door was tightly shut, and through the glass window, I saw a figure in a tattered spacesuit, facing away from us.
"Father!" I shouted, banging on the door of the chamber. The figure turned around, revealing a familiar yet strange face—it was indeed my father! But his eyes were filled with terror and despair, as if he had seen something horrifying.
At that moment, the entire pyramid began to shake violently, with stones falling from the ceiling. Chen Yu grabbed me and shouted, "We need to get out of here; it's going to collapse!" Reluctant to abandon my father, I desperately tried to open the chamber door, but it wouldn’t budge. My father inside was frantically gesturing as if urging us to leave.
Just when it seemed all hope was lost, the Crystal Device emitted a blinding light, enveloping the entire pyramid in white brilliance. I felt my body being pulled by that strange force again; everything went dark as I lost consciousness.
When I awoke again, I found myself lying in the medical bay of our ship, with Chen Yu watching over me. "You’re finally awake; it was really dangerous back there," Chen Yu sighed in relief. I looked around and saw that the ship was flying normally, with familiar sights of the solar system outside the window.
"What about Father? Did we save him?" I asked urgently. Chen Yu shook his head, his eyes filled with helplessness. "We didn’t find anything in the pyramid except for that Crystal Device. However, we did bring back some important data that might be related to the Time Device."
I felt a wave of disappointment wash over me but was quickly replaced by curiosity. We began analyzing the data we had retrieved and discovered that this Time Device could not only allow someone to travel back in time but also view different parallel worlds. Each parallel world had its own distinct Timeline, and the Crystal Device served as a hub connecting these Timelines.
To further understand the capabilities of the Time Device, we decided to conduct our first time travel experiment. I donned a specially designed Time Protection Suit and stood before the Crystal Device, while Chen Yu operated the apparatus. As the Crystal Device powered up, I felt my body become weightless; countless images flashed before my eyes. When I opened them again, I found myself back five years ago on the day my father went missing.
I stood in the control center of the Launch Base, watching my father prepare to board the ship with Chen Yu. I wanted to rush forward to stop him but realized I seemed like a transparent figure unable to touch anything. All I could do was watch helplessly as my father boarded the ship, launched into space, and then lost contact.
Just then, a blue light flashed before me, and I found myself back in the current laboratory. Chen Yu looked at me in astonishment: "You successfully traveled through time, but it was only for ten minutes." I nodded, filled with excitement and confusion. Why could I only be an observer and not change the past?
