The cave shook violently, debris falling like a dense rain, as if the entire world was collapsing under the tremors.
Xuan Yang held Qu Si Yang tightly, sprinting through the narrow and winding passage.
He knew they had to find the place that Xuan Qing had mentioned as quickly as possible.
Time was of the essence; every second could mean the difference between life and death. Otherwise, both he and Qu Si Yang would perish in this dark abyss.
"Faster, we need to hurry!" Xuan Yang urged himself, quickening his pace.
Suddenly, a faint glimmer appeared ahead, like a star twinkling in the darkness, offering a glimmer of hope to those trapped in despair.
Xuan Yang's heart leaped with joy as he sensed a chance for survival. He accelerated towards that flicker of light.
Bursting out of the narrow passage, he was met with a breathtaking sight.
Before him lay a vast underground space, open and profound, resembling the belly of a slumbering giant.
In the center of this space stood a towering statue that reached up to the cave's ceiling, imposing and awe-inspiring.
The statue was lifelike, every detail meticulously carved, as if it were the masterpiece of an ancient master, ready to awaken from its slumber and unleash divine retribution.
Surrounding the statue was a circle of mysterious runes. These runes resembled ancient script and also appeared like some enigmatic totem, shimmering with a faint golden light that added an air of mystery and eeriness to the dimly lit space.
"This is it," Xuan Qing's familiar voice echoed in Xuan Yang's mind, tinged with urgency. "This is the place of the Resurrection Statue. Hurry, while we still can!"
Xuan Yang dared not delay. He carefully set Qu Si Yang down against a relatively flat rock and then quickly approached the statue, examining the strange runes closely.
He attempted to decipher their meanings, searching for the key to activate the statue.
“Xuan Yang, watch out behind you!” Qu Si Yang suddenly shouted, her voice filled with fear and concern.
Xuan Yang turned around sharply, only to see a shadow rushing toward him at an incredible speed, like a ghost in the night—silent yet carrying a deadly threat.
It was the Shadow!
He had caught up so quickly; this guy was truly relentless!
A chill ran down Xuan Yang's spine as he hurriedly dodged, but the shadow's speed was too fast. Its attacks were like a relentless parasite, pursuing him without mercy.
Xuan Yang was still grazed by the shadow's strike, a searing pain shot through his chest as if he had been cut by a sharp blade.
“Xuan Yang!” Qu Si Yang cried out anxiously, her voice laced with worry and guilt.
“Cough cough, I'm fine,” Xuan Yang gritted his teeth and replied, enduring the pain in his chest as he quickly got back on his feet, ready to face the shadow.
He knew there was no escaping this fight.
“Hmph, you overestimate yourself. With your pathetic skills, do you really think you can stand against me?” The shadow sneered, its voice dripping with disdain and mockery, as if Xuan Yang were merely an ant that could be crushed at will.
“Even if I die, I will protect Si Yang. That is my promise!” Xuan Yang declared firmly, his eyes filled with determination and unwavering resolve.
Suddenly, a powerful Flame Power erupted from Qu Si Yang. This force surged forth like a volcanic eruption—fierce and scorching.
The blazing flames dispelled the surrounding darkness, illuminating the dim space.
Qu Si Yang's eyes burned with anger and fighting spirit as she fixed her gaze on the shadow, resembling an enraged lioness ready to tear her enemy apart.
“Shadow, if you dare to harm Xuan Yang, I will fight you to the death!” she roared, her voice echoing in the vast underground space, filled with boundless fury and determination.
The Flame Power of Qu Si Yang merged miraculously with Xuan Yang's Shadow Puppet, forming a force that was even more powerful. This force seemed to embody the fusion of light and darkness, possessing both the searing heat of flames and the mysteriousness of shadows.
Flames and shadows intertwined like dancing fire dragons, sweeping toward the darkness with a momentum that threatened to destroy everything in their path, creating a breathtaking spectacle.
The Shadow had not expected Qu Si Yang to possess such formidable power. A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.
He hastily dodged, but those fire dragons seemed to have a mind of their own, relentlessly pursuing him and leaving him in a state of disarray.
"Damn it!" he cursed under his breath. He never imagined he would be pushed to such an extent by a woman; it was an utter humiliation.
He launched another attack, unleashing Black Energy like a tidal wave, aiming to eliminate Qu Si Yang and Xuan Yang in one fell swoop.
However, Qu Si Yang and Xuan Yang's coordination grew increasingly seamless. Their attacks became more ferocious, like a torrential storm that left no room for breath.
The Shadow gradually felt overwhelmed. He began to regret coming here.
He had initially thought this would be a simple task, but he never expected to encounter such a tenacious opponent.
"Damn it! Damn it!" he roared, his attacks becoming more frantic yet increasingly futile, like a cornered beast fighting in vain.
Ultimately, under the combined assault of Qu Si Yang and Xuan Yang, the Shadow was forced back. He fled the underground space in disgrace, disappearing into the darkness.
"We won!" Qu Si Yang exclaimed excitedly as she embraced Xuan Yang, her eyes filled with joy and exhilaration as if they had just achieved a great victory.
Xuan Yang also wore a relieved smile. He gently patted Qu Si Yang on the back and comforted her, "Yes, we won. You were amazing."
Suddenly, a figure appeared before them like a ghost, blocking their path.
It was Lu Zhiyuan.
His eyes were filled with greed and murderous intent, like a hungry wolf fixated on its prey, sending chills down one's spine.
"Puppet Heart is mine!" he said coldly, his voice echoing as if it came from hell, carrying an endless chill.
Before the words had left his lips, he lunged at Xuan Yang with astonishing speed.
Xuan Yang's heart sank; he knew that Lu Zhiyuan's strength far surpassed that of the shadows, and he was no match for him.
He quickly shielded Qu Si Yang behind him, preparing to fight to the death.
"Xuan Yang, be careful!" Qu Si Yang shouted anxiously, her voice filled with worry and fear.
Lu Zhiyuan moved swiftly, reaching Xuan Yang in the blink of an eye. He struck towards Xuan Yang's chest with a palm, the force fierce and overwhelming, aimed directly at the Puppet Heart within him.
Xuan Yang hurriedly dodged, but still felt the rush of Lu Zhiyuan's palm wind graze him. His body flew backward like a kite with its string cut, crashing heavily to the ground and kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Poof!" Xuan Yang spat out a mouthful of blood, his face pale as paper, his breath weak, as if he could die at any moment.
"Xuan Yang!" Qu Si Yang exclaimed in shock. She rushed to his side and helped him up, her eyes filled with concern and pain as tears streamed down her cheeks.
"I'm... I'm fine," Xuan Yang said weakly, forcing himself through the excruciating pain as he tried to rise again, ready to face Lu Zhiyuan once more.
"Hmph, how touching. Too bad you're overestimating yourself," Lu Zhiyuan sneered, his eyes full of mockery. "You think you can protect her in your half-dead state? It's simply a delusion!"
He charged at Xuan Yang again, faster and stronger than before, like a fierce tiger descending from the mountain, unstoppable.
Xuan Yang knew he was no match for Lu Zhiyuan. He had to find a way to buy time and wait for Xuan Qing's guidance.
As he dodged Lu Zhiyuan's attacks, he called out for Xuan Qing in his mind.
“Xuan Qing, where are you? Hurry and save me, I can’t hold on much longer!”
“Don’t worry, Xuan Yang, I’m here.” Xuan Qing’s voice echoed in Xuan Yang’s mind, carrying a hint of reassurance. “I’m working on a plan; just hold on a little longer, trust me!”
A wave of relief washed over Xuan Yang. He knew that Xuan Qing would come to his rescue; it was the unspoken bond and trust they shared.
He narrowly dodged another attack from Lu Zhiyuan and seized the opportunity to create some distance, maintaining a safe gap between them.
“You can’t escape,” Lu Zhiyuan said coldly, his voice dripping with confidence and menace. “Hand over the Puppet Heart, and I can make it quick for you, sparing you from further suffering.”
“Not a chance!” Xuan Yang replied firmly, his eyes blazing with defiance. “I will never give the Puppet Heart to scum like you!”
A flicker of anger flashed in Lu Zhiyuan’s eyes; he hadn’t expected Xuan Yang to be so stubborn.
In an instant, he vanished from sight and reappeared behind Xuan Yang, his fingers curled like claws, aiming straight for Xuan Yang’s back!
The move was swift and vicious, executed at an awkward angle that made it nearly impossible to defend against.
“Xuan Yang, watch out behind you!” Qu Si Yang shouted in terror.
