Lin Weiwei's face turned completely pale, her lips trembling, unable to utter a word. She probably didn't expect that I not only completed the work but also understood the principles and details behind the design so thoroughly. Her clumsy imitation was utterly exposed before me.
Chen Mu Yang's expression also darkened considerably. He wasn't a fool; after hearing my analysis and looking at both design drafts, he couldn't possibly be oblivious to what was happening. Yet, he seemed unwilling to believe it or perhaps unwilling to accept the fact that Lin Weiwei had plagiarized.
"Even if your design is deeper, it doesn't prove that Wei Wei copied you!" He stubbornly retorted, "Maybe it was just a coincidence? Wei Wei put in a lot of effort for this design; you can't dismiss her hard work with just a few words!"
"Effort? Effort in stealing someone else's ideas?" I scoffed, throwing out my prepared bombshell. "Chen Mu Yang, Lin Weiwei, and everyone here, I know that without evidence, you might still be skeptical. So please, take a look at this."
I took out my phone, opened a video file, and connected it to the electronic display screen beside us.
On the screen appeared clear footage from the studio's surveillance camera. In the video, Lin Weiwei sneaked into the studio when no one was around, walked straight to my desk, rummaged through my things, and then quickly stuffed a piece of paper with design elements into her pocket before leaving with a guilty conscience.
The video wasn't long but was enough to clarify everything.
The frame froze at the moment Lin Weiwei tucked the draft paper into her pocket.
Before the entire announcement board, there was complete silence.
All eyes were fixed on Lin Weiwei, who looked as pale as a ghost and was on the verge of collapse.
"Wei Wei... is this... is this real?" Chen Mu Yang's voice trembled with disbelief as he stared at the screen and then turned to Lin Weiwei, his eyes filled with disappointment and pain.
Lin Weiwei opened her mouth as if to say something but couldn't utter a single word. Tears streamed down her face like pearls falling from a broken string.
"No... it's not like this... Brother Mu Yang, please let me explain..." She cried as she reached for Chen Mu Yang's arm.
But Chen Mu Yang recoiled as if burned, shaking off her hand violently.
"Enough!" he shouted wearily and disgustedly. "Lin Weiwei, I never expected you to be this kind of person!"
With that, he didn't spare her another glance and pushed through the crowd, striding away decisively and... awkwardly.
Lin Weiwei stood there in a daze, watching Chen Mu Yang leave before collapsing to the ground as if all her strength had been drained away, covering her face and sobbing uncontrollably.
Zhang Li and several followers wanted to help her but were rooted in place by the scornful and mocking gazes around them, feeling helpless.
I coldly watched the farce before me and put away my phone. Lin Weiwei, this is just the first step. The pain and humiliation you have inflicted upon me will be repaid a hundredfold. I turned around and calmly walked away from the bulletin board, amidst the complex gazes of the crowd.
