Zero always has a knack for pinpointing the issues when I vent about my frustrations with reality, or he finds a unique way to make me laugh. He’s like an all-knowing confidant, a reliable and entertaining companion. My fondness for him has been quietly growing without me even realizing it.
That day, I had a minor clash with Su Yao over a group project. Taking advantage of her popularity, she teamed up with a few other members to sideline me, deliberately assigning me the most challenging parts while mocking me coldly. I was furious but didn’t want to confront her openly, so I bottled up my anger and returned to my dorm.
Later that evening, I vented all my grievances to Zero. "Zero! I'm about to explode! That Su Yao is just too much! They’re ganging up on me!" I typed furiously.
Zero replied quickly, "What happened? Take your time."
I recounted the entire situation in detail. After listening, Zero paused for a moment before typing, "Don’t get upset. Such petty tricks aren’t worth your emotions. Just focus on doing your part well; make it so they have nothing to say."
"But that part is really difficult! There’s hardly any information, and I can’t handle it alone…" I felt a bit defeated.
"How will you know if you don’t try?" Zero said. "I’ll help you find some resources. Just send me the specific requirements."
"Really? You’re the best, Zero!" I felt rejuvenated instantly.
I sent him the assignment details. Before long, Zero sent back several links and documents—precise and valuable reference materials, including translations of some foreign literature summaries.
"!!!" I was once again amazed by his vast knowledge. "Zero, who are you? It feels like you know everything!"
"I told you, just a little bit," he replied nonchalantly.
With Zero's "off-field assistance," my confidence soared, and I immediately dove into researching the materials.
The next day in class, I was full of energy, ready to crush Su Yao and her crew with my skills. As I approached the teaching building, I spotted Gu Yan standing in front of the bulletin board, seemingly looking at something.
I initially planned to walk around him, but he turned around as if he had eyes in the back of his head when I got closer.
"Morning," he greeted me first.
"…Morning," I replied, somewhat surprised.
His gaze lingered on my face for a moment before he asked, "Did you run into trouble yesterday?"
My heart skipped a beat—how did he know?! Did he really have some sort of surveillance on me?!
"N-no," I denied quickly.
He studied me for a few seconds without pressing further but then pulled out a small USB drive from his bag and handed it to me. "This has some information that might be useful for the assignment you're working on."
I was taken aback and instinctively took the USB drive.
"…How did you know I needed this?" I blurted out.
His eyes flickered for a moment, then he looked away, his tone flat. "Just a guess."
Another guess! Is your family running a guessing game company or something?!
I held the USB drive tightly, a storm of thoughts swirling in my mind. This "coincidence" was just too uncanny! Just last night, Zero had provided me with some information, and now this morning, Gu Yan had "guessed" that I needed it and handed me a USB drive?!
Could it be… could it really be…
That absurd thought surged up uncontrollably again, and this time, it was particularly strong.
Could Gu Yan actually be Zero?
I was startled by my own thought and quickly shook my head. No way! Absolutely not! The voice, the personality, the mannerisms… they were completely different people!
It must be a coincidence! Yes! Just a coincidence!
