"I'll pick you up at the airport." Lin Bingbing's voice trembled, and all her thoughts condensed into that one sentence.
"Okay." Jiang Chen did not refuse.
After Lin Bingbing hung up the phone, she looked at herself in the mirror. The weariness that had clouded her face vanished, replaced by a radiant glow. Her cheeks flushed with a slight warmth.
Day after day, she had longed for him, and tonight she would finally meet the person she had been thinking about day and night.
Lin Bingbing hurriedly began to apply her makeup and try on clothes. Hearing the commotion, Lin Bingbing's mother pushed the door open. When she saw her daughter already made up and trying on outfits, the most striking thing was the happy smile lighting up her face.
"Bingbing, you finally figured it out. But the engagement dinner is in the evening; there's no need to be so anxious about your makeup and outfits," Mother Lin said with a smile.
"The engagement dinner has nothing to do with me; I'm going to the airport to pick up my friend," Lin Bingbing replied. Although her tone was defiant, her smile remained.
Upon hearing her daughter's words, Mother Lin's expression darkened. "What friend?"
"His name is Jiang Chen; he's the one I like," Lin Bingbing said, her cheeks slightly flushed, but she looked at her mother boldly as she spoke.
"You really invited him over? Do you know that in Yulu City, no one can compete with the Shi family? You're just asking for trouble," Mother Lin frowned.
"It wasn't me who invited Jiang Chen; he came on his own after hearing I got injured while filming," Lin Bingbing said proudly. The fact that Jiang Chen hadn't forgotten about her made her ecstatic.
Seeing her daughter like this, Mother Lin knew that saying more would be pointless. However, she was genuinely curious about what kind of man could make her daughter so infatuated. Was his background even stronger than that of the Shi Family's Second Young Master?
If this Jiang Chen had an even stronger background, Mother Lin thought she should support her daughter's feelings. After all, her daughter wasn't married yet; it wouldn't hurt to scout for potential sons-in-law.
"Ahem, Bingbing, since he came specifically to see you, why don't you invite him over for lunch? I'll cook personally," Mother Lin suggested.
Lin Bingbing looked at her mother with suspicion but did not refuse.
"Okay, but Mom, please don't judge him by appearances. And whatever you do, don't say anything sarcastic in front of Jiang Chen. Also, you can't just call him by his name; you have to call him Mr. Jiang," Lin Bingbing said seriously.
Lin Bingbing was well aware of Jiang Chen's capabilities; he was almost like a god. Once in Jiang City, he had directly killed Xiao Junyong's son—the son of Central China's Underground Boss—without Xiao Junyong daring to utter a word in protest. A person like him deserved respect.
"Bingbing, if you can call him by his name, why can't I? I'm an elder," Mother Lin said unhappily.
"I am me, and you are you. Mom, let me tell you this: even our Eastern China's Underground Leader would have to be polite when meeting Jiang Chen," Lin Bingbing replied.
"Wait... this Jiang Chen—uh, Mr. Jiang—is he from the Underground World?" Mother Lin asked in shock. People from the Underground World were indeed not to be trifled with.
"No, but even people from the Underground World fear Jiang Chen," Lin Bingbing stated seriously.
"Okay, I understand now." Mother Lin took a deep look at her daughter and saw that she was not joking. She nodded solemnly.
An hour later, at Yulu City Airport.
Lin Bingbing wore a cute red knitted hat, a long down jacket, and a pair of chunky sneakers. Of course, for a big star, a mask was essential. Lin Bingbing had filmed a movie with Director Zhang over the past two years and had rarely appeared in front of the media. Yet, her fame seemed to be growing day by day.
