She understood the weight of Jiang Chen's words. Although the Shyr family was powerful, they would still give face to Jiang Chen.
"Thank you, Jiang Chen," Lin Bingbing said gratefully.
"Actually, I should be thanking you. Over the past two years while I was away, you've gone to keep my mom company every New Year. She has a very good impression of you," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
Jiang Chen had guessed about Lin Bingbing visiting his family during the New Year from Liu Sisi and later confirmed it with his mother. His mother was no longer worried about her son's marriage, as he had too many beautiful women around him. However, her feelings for Lin Bingbing were different; after all, Lin Bingbing had spent three consecutive years celebrating the New Year with her.
Hearing Jiang Chen mention this, Lin Bingbing's cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"I... I just didn't want to spend the New Year at home. I'm happier accompanying your mom," Lin Bingbing said softly.
Jiang Chen smiled and said nothing more.
The two arrived at a restaurant, chatting as they ate. Lin Bingbing reminisced about their first meeting, which made Jiang Chen chuckle.
After finishing their meal, Lin Bingbing invited Jiang Chen to take a stroll by the seaside. Although it was winter, the weather was pleasant and not too cold.
To avoid any interruptions from her family during her "date" with Jiang Chen, Lin Bingbing turned off her phone.
Lin Bingbing's parents and siblings became anxious when they noticed she hadn't returned by four in the afternoon and that her phone was unreachable. However, no amount of anxiety would help; with her phone off in the vast Yulu City, they had no way to find her.
"This girl Bingbing is so thoughtless. If she doesn't show up tonight, it will be a huge disrespect to the Shyr family. The Shi family will definitely be furious and won't let us off easily," Mother Lin said anxiously, like an ant on a hot pan.
"I believe Bingbing knows what's important. Offending the Shyr family will only lead to trouble; she should understand that. Let's wait a bit longer; as long as she returns before six, there might still be a chance," Lin Bingbing's father said.
"The banquet starts at seven-thirty. The Shyr family has invited so many prominent figures tonight; if Bingbing doesn't show up, it will be a big problem. I shouldn't have let her go out with that boy," Mother Lin lamented, filled with regret.
While Lin Bingbing's family was in a state of panic, she remained unconcerned. With Jiang Chen by her side, she felt particularly at ease.
Jiang Chen glanced at the time and suddenly spoke up, "Let's go visit the Shyr family."
"Huh? Why go to the Shyr family? I... I don't want to go," Lin Bingbing replied nervously. She felt some trepidation toward the Shyr family, knowing it was an unfathomable clan. Although Jiang Chen was powerful, there would be many people present tonight; if he lost his temper and resorted to violence, it wouldn't be an outcome Lin Bingbing wanted to see.
For her, the best course of action was to avoid them altogether.
"Tell that Second Young Master of the Shyr family to take back his betrothal gifts; he is not worthy of you," Jiang Chen stated firmly.
"Okay then," Lin Bingbing said, staring at Jiang Chen in surprise and feeling touched. She nodded earnestly and added, "By the way, Jiang Chen, you promised me... please don't resort to violence."
"Don't worry; I won't resort to violence tonight," Jiang Chen smiled reassuringly. After all, his relationship with the Shyr family wasn't too strained; he wouldn't make things difficult for the Shi family but simply wanted that Second Young Master of the Shyr family to stop pursuing Lin Bingbing.
Seeing Jiang Chen agree, Lin Bingbing let out a sigh of relief.
"Well, I'll go change into a dress, but I have scars on my body. If I wear an evening gown, it won't be able to hide them, and that would look really bad," Lin Bingbing said.
