"Let's call Situ Jianfei and see if Situ Yanan is home." A Fei said to me. Right! If Situ Yanan isn't home, then it means the three of them are together! I quickly dialed Situ Jianfei's number. "Hello, Jianfei, is Yanan at home?" I asked anxiously after the call connected. Situ Jianfei replied, "No, I don't know where that girl has run off to." I was completely stunned; I felt like my whole body had gone limp. Where could Xia Ying and the others have gone? "Jianfei, Xia Ying and Sha Xiaomei are also missing. They might be with Situ Yanan."
"What! Sha Xiaomei is missing too!! Forget everything else, let's meet at the entrance of Yulin High School, hurry!" Situ Jianfei suddenly became anxious. I hung up the phone and called out to A Fei as we ran towards the bus stop, boarding the bus to school.
After arriving at the school entrance, we gathered together. "What on earth is going on?! How did all three girls go missing at the same time?!" Situ Jianfei's temper flared. "We don't know either! They didn't come to the competition this morning, and when we called them, their phones were off..." A Fei added. Situ Jianfei quickly took out his phone and dialed Situ Yanan's number again. "Off! Off! Let's think about where they might have gone!" Situ Jianfei held his phone tightly as we all fell into deep thought. "Where could it be..." I muttered to myself when suddenly all three of us exclaimed in unison: "Lijing Park!" That's right! The last time we saw her, she was arguing with Xia Ying at Lijing Park. We immediately ran towards Lijing Park.
Upon reaching Lijing Park, we headed towards the wooded path, and what we saw left us all stunned: Xia Ying, Sha Xiaomei, and Situ Yanan were sitting silently next to each other on a bench, their three phones abandoned on another bench. "Yanan! Why did you turn off your phone? You made me worry!" Situ Jianfei scolded as he walked towards Situ Yanan. I hurried over to ask Xia Ying and Sha Xiaomei, "What happened? A Fei and I were worried sick!" Xia Ying smiled slightly at us: "We just wanted to chat without being disturbed, right Yanan?" She turned to ask Situ Yanan, who also smiled faintly: "Yeah, do we really have to report to you? Are you private detectives or something?"
I never expected that they would be getting along so well; it had always been Xia Ying and Situ Yanan who didn't get along. Well then! Since everyone has reconciled, there's no need for us to linger. "Let's go home," I said as I pulled Xia Ying up and exchanged a knowing glance with A Fei. A Fei understood immediately and picked up Sha Xiaomei's and Xia Ying's phones while pulling Sha Xiaomei along as we left. I followed behind them as we exited Lijing Park. The Situ siblings took their leave first, and once they were gone, I quickly leaned down to ask them: "Cookie, what’s going on? You’ve confused us completely! You didn’t come watch our Street Basketball match but instead took Situ Yanan to Lijing Park for a chat?!"
Xia Ying remained silent and just walked ahead with us. Sha Xiaomei seemed hesitant but upon seeing Xia Ying's expression, she held back her words. Sigh! It seems that Xia Ying definitely won't spill any secrets; what on earth happened?
"Yingying, why don't you go home and rest? I'll take you back," I suggested to Xia Ying. She shook her head: "No need; you all worked hard for the match. Sha Xiaomei, let’s go." As she said this, she reached for Sha Xiaomei's hand. I shot A Fei a glare; A Fei quickly caught on and said: "Oh right! Sha Xiaomei, I've missed you so much during this time apart! Will you accompany me shopping and on a date? Let’s go!" A Fei pulled Sha Xiaomei's hand as they walked away. I let out a sigh of relief: "Phew! Now that no one is keeping you company anymore, I'll take on the role of your protector!"
Xia Ying shook her head: "Really don’t need it; I can go back by myself. Soda, don’t worry; I'll call you when I get home. Bye." She gave me a hug before leaving.
Watching Xia Ying's retreating figure made my heart ache; it felt like the usually optimistic and cheerful Xia Ying had suddenly become more reserved today. No way—something must have happened! I quickly took out my phone and called A Fei: "Hey A Fei, where are you? Still shopping? Let’s meet at Xincheng Ice Cream Shop; hurry!" As I said this, I ran towards Xincheng Ice Cream Shop. When I reached the entrance, A Fei and Sha Xiaomei had just arrived.
"Let’s go in; it's on me!" I said as I stepped inside first. After exchanging glances with each other, A Fei and Sha Xiaomei followed me in. Once seated, I quickly asked Sha Xiaomei: "Sha Xiaomei, what happened this morning?"
"Nothing... nothing..." Sha Xiaomei lowered her head stubbornly. "Sha Xiaomei, please don’t hide it from us anymore! I'm about to lose my mind!" I pleaded dramatically while A Fei chimed in: "Yeah Sha Xiaomei, just tell us what happened between Situ Yanan and Xia Ying!" Under our persistent questioning, Sha Xiaomei finally relented: "Alright alright! I'll tell you!" She took a sip of water before continuing: "Here's what happened: This morning, Yingying and I went to Lake City Park to cheer for you guys but unexpectedly ran into Yanan before we even got there. She stopped us wanting to talk to Yingying, so we ended up at Lijing Park."
"And then? What happened next?" I asked eagerly. Sha Xiaomei continued: "After we got to Lijing Park, Yanan wanted to talk privately with Yingying and took her aside while asking me to hold onto their phones and turn them off completely. About twenty minutes later when they came out, both of them looked expressionless and had signs of having cried." They talked privately?! Wouldn't there be a fight? It seems not; when I saw them earlier their clothes were neat and there were no signs of injury—so what secret could they possibly have that they didn't want Sha Xiaomei to know?
