"Mom, I've said it several times, but you just won't listen," Lin Bingbing said coldly.
Mother Lin, aware of her own shortcomings, muttered softly, "Who would know he has a background with that appearance? If he dressed better, I wouldn't have misjudged him."
Hearing her mother's murmurs, Lin Bingbing shook her head with a bitter smile. She was utterly disappointed in this family.
Upon entering the room, Shi Shengguang quickly urged Jiang Chen to sit down and personally made tea for him. On the luxurious European-style sofa, only Jiang Chen was seated while everyone else stood.
Jiang Chen's gaze casually swept across the room and landed on Shi Xindi. The young man trembled; he had heard his family mention Jiang Chen before—a figure even their ancestors respected. How could Shi Xindi not be afraid?
"Jiang, Mr. Jiang..." Seeing Jiang Chen looking at him, Shi Xindi forced out a smile that was more painful than crying and called out in a trembling voice.
"I heard you're going to marry Bingbing?" Jiang Chen asked.
"I... I..." Shi Xindi's legs went weak, and he dropped to his knees, unable to speak from fear.
Shi Xindi's reaction startled Lin Bingbing's family. Jiang Chen had merely asked a casual question, yet the arrogant Shi Xindi was reduced to this state. Who exactly was Jiang Chen? Lin Bingbing's family was dumbfounded and terrified; after all, they had been quite rude to Jiang Chen before.
If the Shi Family couldn't afford to offend Jiang Chen, how could they?
Seeing this, Shi Shengguang kicked his son and scolded, "You think you deserve Miss Lin? You're just a lazy frog dreaming of eating swan meat. I opposed this marriage from the start, but you wouldn't listen. Quickly apologize to Miss Lin. If she doesn't forgive you, don't even think about getting up."
Shi Shengguang was clever; he knew it was better to plead with Lin Bingbing for forgiveness than to beg Jiang Chen.
After all, Lin Bingbing was just an ordinary person, while someone of Jiang Chen's caliber was unfathomable.
Hearing his father's words, Shi Xindi quickly looked at Lin Bingbing with a pitiful expression full of regret that tugged at the heartstrings.
Seeing Shi Xindi about to bow down to beg for forgiveness, Lin Bingbing felt awkward and hurriedly said, "I... I forgive you; please don't kneel."
"Since Bingbing has forgiven you, you can get up," Jiang Chen said lightly. Given the Shi Family's attitude, he decided not to hold it against them.
Shi Xindi felt as if he had narrowly escaped death. After standing up, he felt a chill run down his back; he knew very well that if Jiang Chen wanted to kill him, his family would likely not dare oppose it.
Seeing that Jiang Chen wasn't pursuing the matter any further, Shi Shengguang quickly changed the subject to move past this incident entirely.
"Mr. Jiang, my ancestor often speaks highly of you. If he knew you were here, he would be very pleased. Why don't you go visit him?" Shi Shengguang suggested.
"I came this time specifically to meet your ancestor; let's go now," Jiang Chen replied with a faint smile.
"Then I'll take you there," Shi Shengguang said.
Jiang Chen nodded in agreement.
"I have something to take care of first, I'll see you later," Jiang Chen said to Lin Bingbing.
"Okay," Lin Bingbing replied with a nod.
Jiang Chen and Shi Shengguang left the hotel and headed to the Shi family's seaside villa. As for Lin Bingbing's family, Jiang Chen couldn't be bothered with them at all.
Once Jiang Chen was gone, Shi Xindi slumped onto the sofa with a sigh of relief, while Shi Ning circled around Lin Bingbing, her expression one of shock.
"Bingbing, I didn't expect you to be Mr. Jiang's girlfriend! You should have mentioned it earlier. If my second brother knew, he wouldn't dare to lay a finger on you even if he had a thousand times the courage," Shi Ning exclaimed.
