A sharp pain twisted in my stomach, and the room was damp and cold to the bone.
I curled up, clutching my belly, my mind filled with Shen Yichen's indifferent face and Su Wanqing's triumphant smile.
Everyone was watching my humiliation, everyone deemed me lowly and shameless.
Injustice, anger, frustration, and tremors all clogged my chest.
I stared fiercely at the ceiling when suddenly a voice echoed in my mind:
Lin Yue, you cannot fall. If you fall, that means they have won.
I bit down on my lip until it bled, the metallic taste chilling on my tongue.
A final message popped up on my phone.
“Lin Yue, why are you still alive?”
Outside, thunder roared as a new wave of shouts and camera clicks erupted from below.
I could no longer hear them; all that remained was the sound of my heartbeat and the rain outside.
The rain continued to fall, the thunder seeming to shred my nerves.
I lay on the couch, gasping for air, nearly overwhelmed by darkness and suffocation.
My phone vibrated again with an anonymous message flooding the screen: “Lin Yue, why are you still alive?”
I let out a cold laugh, my fingertips tingling faintly.
In an instant, I felt an urge to stop enduring.
The room was thick with humidity and the smell of disinfectant; the torn pregnancy test report in the trash felt like a mocking suicide note.
Outside, raindrops pounded against the glass like a death knell.
Suddenly, a beam of light pierced through the gap in the curtains. I could see a figure moving downstairs; the paparazzi were still lurking.
Instinctively, I turned off all notifications but couldn't help but open the chat history with Shen Yichen.
His profile picture lay there quietly, indifferent to everything.
I swallowed a breath of cold air and slowly sat up. The voice in my head echoed again: Lin Yue, if you fall, they win.
I gritted my teeth and stood up, tightening my robe around me, my fingers pressing so hard that they turned white.
A notification popped up on my phone—Shen Yichen's location.
He was at the Golden Goblet Hotel.
My nails dug into my palm, and I instantly felt awake.
At two in the morning, Shen Yichen wasn't home. Who could he be with at the hotel?
The image of Su Wanqing's cold smile flashed through my mind, and my heart raced.
This was no coincidence.
I threw on a raincoat over my shoulders, grabbed a black umbrella, turned off all the lights, and quietly made my way downstairs.
Outside, the paparazzi's curses echoed behind me. Without looking back, I hurried across the street.
The night wind choked me, making my throat dry.
In the taxi, I clenched my jaw, staring at my reflection in the window—disheveled and stubborn, like a cornered beast.
My phone lit up as I leaned against the passenger seat, fixated on the data from the backend: the room number at Golden Goblet Hotel was crystal clear.
When I arrived at the hotel entrance, I didn't go straight in.
Instead, I hid beside a rockery, rainwater trickling down my forehead, mingling with sweat and fury.
A few waiters pushed open the door to the private room, and my heart tightened—Shen Yichen stepped out, followed closely by Su Wanqing.
She clutched her belly, pretending to be pitiful, her voice sweet and sticky.
"Yichen, the agreement will definitely be signed tomorrow. Lin Yue won't expose anything, don't worry."
Agreement?
My heart, which had been as still as water, suddenly erupted like a splash.
Shen Yichen chuckled softly, his tone icy: "Just resolve the matter with the child cleanly. As long as Lin Yue makes a fool of herself, I guarantee you’ll take your rightful place."
Su Wanqing leaned against his shoulder. Once she signed the agreement, they could insult her however they wanted.
As the two entered the elevator, my gaze turned cold. I quickly took out my phone to record and gritted my teeth as I quietly followed them.
Inside the elevator, Su Wanqing lowered her voice, "The child isn't really yours... Anyway, she's already pregnant; this agreement is fair for her."
Shen Yichen raised an eyebrow: "Are you sure it will be handled cleanly?"
The agreement was clear: confidentiality during the pregnancy, and divorce immediately after the child is born. The outcome benefits both of us.
