I smiled and replied, "Jianfei, Yanan will always be my good little sister. I want her to be happy too. She's only just turned seventeen this year; I hope she can focus on her studies and not get involved in early romance like we did."
"So what you're saying is..." Situ Jianfei looked at me in confusion. "Jianfei, just leave this matter to me. Tomorrow morning, help me arrange to meet Yanan at the entrance of Lijing Park. I promise I'll return you a cheerful and bouncy little sister, hehe."
"Okay, I'll help you arrange it. Do I need to be there?" Situ Jianfei placed his right hand on my shoulder. I laughed and said, "Haha, what about you?"
"Then I won't go after all. Let's head back; those guys in the ward are probably gossiping about our conversation again." Situ Jianfei pulled me back toward the ward. Well, it's better to clarify things sooner rather than later; that way we can all feel at ease and avoid making things uncomfortable for all three of us. Is this what they call a love triangle in TV dramas? It shouldn't be as dramatic as those idol dramas.
In the afternoon, I sat in my room thinking about how to talk to Situ Yanan. Logically speaking, although Situ Yanan can be a bit wild, she's not completely unreasonable. I decided to express my feelings clearly and then give her a big friendly hug—k done! Yes, that's the plan!
The next day, I arrived at the entrance of Lijing Park as promised; Situ Yanan hadn't arrived yet. I specifically went to the nearby shop to buy two ice creams; it felt a bit like a blind date—phew! After a while, Situ Yanan walked over, but instead of bouncing around like before, she approached quietly and gracefully.
"Brother Jie, you've been here for a while," she greeted me as she walked over. I smiled and handed her an ice cream: "Yeah, let's go inside and chat." We walked into the park and reached the spot where I had met Xia Ying yesterday. Just as we sat down, I saw that photography enthusiast from yesterday walking over. The guy looked shocked when he saw me with Situ Yanan and muttered as he passed by us, "Wow! Today's kids really can't be understood..."
Hearing this made me feel embarrassed enough to want to find a hole to hide in. I quickly called out to him to explain: "Hey man, please don't misunderstand; she's my sister." The guy turned back with a smile: "Oh oh, haha, no misunderstanding; you two chat away." I sighed in relief but then heard him mutter again as he walked away: "What?! Bringing your sister to the park for a date?! Do you think I'm an idiot?"
After hearing that, I could only smile wryly without further explanation. Glancing back unintentionally, I saw Situ Yanan covering her mouth and giggling. I tapped her forehead lightly: "Still laughing? Others are misunderstanding us!"
Situ Yanan suddenly seemed to revert back to her spoiled self and pouted: "It's okay! Anyway, I don't mind; if I'm a bit wronged then so be it—who told me I'm so generous?" We both laughed for a while before I prepared to break her heart gently.
"Yanan, I'm going to Beijing for a competition tomorrow; the reason I asked you out today is..."
"No need! I've already guessed," Situ Yanan surprisingly blushed and lowered her head. I looked at her in astonishment: "You guessed it?! That's great; it saves me from having to spell it out awkwardly—hehe."
Situ Yanan lifted her head with unmistakable joy: "I know I'm sorry for Sister Yingying, but..."
"I understand," I quickly interrupted her: "I've already sorted things out with Xia Ying; she definitely won't hate you for this. Just relax—hehe."
"You silly," Situ Yanan's mood seemed suddenly brightened again, leaving me somewhat puzzled. However, since she was happy now, that reassured me. Unexpectedly, this conversation not only didn't hurt her feelings but actually made her quite cheerful.
Situ Yanan stood up and patted my shoulder: "So where are we going next?" Wow! Who would have thought this girl could be so carefree? Even after heartbreak she still wanted to have fun.
"You decide; anyway, I'll accompany you," I said willingly.
Situ Yanan playfully poked my nose with her right hand: "You're still my brother! From now on don’t call me sister; just call me by my name!"
I was genuinely confused now—what's going on? In a fit of anger she even refused to call me brother? "Oh oh! Since you think I'm unworthy of being your brother then fine; I'll stop letting you call me that."
I tried my best to comfort her feelings: "Hehe, you're still the best! Let's go get ice cream at Xincheng Ice Cream Shop!"
Situ Yanan then grabbed my hand and led me toward the park entrance.
I was somewhat dazed as she pulled me into Xincheng Ice Cream Shop for ice cream. Honestly, I'd lost interest in eating ice cream long ago; instead, I just stared at her blankly. She felt uncomfortable under my gaze: "Hey! What's wrong with you? Why do you keep staring at me...?"
"No," I said. "Yanan, don't you feel even a little sad or upset? It's okay; there's no need to force yourself to smile in front of Jie (brother). If you want to cry then just let it out!"
Situ Yanan looked bewildered: "I'm feeling so happy right now; why would I cry?"
"Yanan! You've completely confused me! Did you misunderstand something?"
Situ Yanan scratched her head: "Didn't you agree to date and be together with me...?"
I widened my eyes in shock: "What are you talking about?! I'm trying to tell you that we're not suitable for each other."
"Huh?? Then why did you bring me here for ice cream?! Hmph!"
Situ Yanan stood up shouting at me before turning around to leave. For a moment there I was too stunned to react.
