Not long after everyone took their seats, the conference room door opened once again.
Leading the way was Mo Chenglin, dressed in a dark striped suit, followed closely by Assistant Chen and Chen Qi. Sini trailed behind them; as the top agent of Shengtian, she was considered a favored aide to President Mo, someone whose words carried weight in his presence.
As Sini settled into her seat, she cast a sidelong glance at He Shuning, who sat a few seats away. Her brow furrowed slightly as her gaze shifted to Mimi, who looked towards Chen Bingxi and subtly shook her head, refraining from making any further movements.
From the moment Mo Chenglin entered the conference room, all whispers and exchanged glances ceased abruptly. Everyone fell silent, turning their attention to the man seated at the head of the table.
Mimi dreaded attending such meetings more than anyone else; in fact, everyone shared this fear. It stemmed from President Mo's icy demeanor that could chill anyone to the bone. He rarely called meetings; most directives came from a few senior executives. However, he held absolute authority—his decisions could determine who would be sidelined today and who would be elevated tomorrow. Such a powerful figure was often elusive, rarely seen within the company. Rumors suggested that Shengtian was not his only enterprise; he had initially developed his career abroad before returning home. Although he took charge of Shengtian's affairs, he delegated management to senior executives. Sini had only recently risen to a position where she could stand before him.
He remained silent as Assistant Chen powered up the computer. The large screen at the front displayed all the data from the past year, causing everyone in the room to involuntarily glance at their respective sections' performance trends, feeling apprehensive.
Beneath his gold-rimmed glasses, Mo Chenglin's eyes were lowered as he focused on the pen spinning between his fingers. The gentle arc seemed to resonate with everyone present, stirring their emotions until Assistant Chen's voice broke the silence. He lifted his gaze, letting the pen glide in a circle to signal everyone to look at the screen.
In the dim light and against a gray-white backdrop, the red lines on the graph stood out starkly.
The consistently leading and steadily developing stars remained He Shuning and Chen Bingxi, their data lines nearly overlapping at the top position.
Chen Bingxi felt quite pleased with her results, casting an arrogant glance around the room and relishing the envious looks directed her way. She lifted her chin slightly, her gaze languid until it landed on the seat opposite her.
Chen Bingxi looked up with an air of superiority towards He Shuning across from her but found her staring intently at the screen with an expression devoid of emotion.
It seemed as if He Shuning was lost in thought; sensing Chen Bingxi’s gaze upon her, she briefly met it before looking away without any pause.
She was momentarily furious, feeling that she was being overlooked, or perhaps that she was not regarded at all, while she considered her the strongest opponent.
She clenched her fingers, her nails digging into her skin, leaving marks, yet she dared not make a sound, trembling with suppressed rage.
What Chen Bingxi hated most was this side of her—an air of superiority, a facade of being indifferent and unambitious, as if she held no one in regard and was so detached from the world that everyone perceived her as innocent. The so-called cool beauty was merely a marketing persona for the company in her eyes, yet some people had become so immersed in their roles that they believed it.
Even President Mo must have been deceived; clearly, she was the one who had initially upheld the company’s image, only to have her brilliance snatched away by a newcomer who overshadowed her momentum.
Now, in the eyes of these colleagues, the top figure at Shengtian had likely already fallen to He Shuning.
Tap, tap—the sound of a pen striking the table. The collision of metal and board was not jarring but rather crisp and clear.
“Is there any change? I feel like I’ve seen this kind of report last year,” his voice was deep yet rich, carrying an undeniable coldness.
The pen in his hand pointed straight at the large screen in the center, almost as if it were indicating each person’s data line.
“I’ve said before that Shengtian can provide all the resources you need to showcase your ambitions,” he shook his pen a few times. “But with such trends, I see no trace of your ambition. Or are you here at Shengtian just to retire?”
“Or do you think my previous words were contradictory? The best resources are limited and cannot be shared by everyone. However, those who strive for them will be noticed. If I see you putting in the effort, I will naturally deliver those resources into your hands.”
