Unexpectedly, after our first goal, the Firearms Team started to surge. Liu Wei took over Luo Bing's mantle very well, even surpassing him. Within the next three minutes, Liu Wei scored three three-pointers. With thirty-eight seconds left in the game, we were trailing by eight points at 19. We had entered the countdown to elimination. After we inbounded the ball, I received it and ran to the corner to take a shot, scoring. The score was now 49, but we were still five points behind with twenty-five seconds remaining. Failure seemed inevitable. After the Firearms Team inbounded the ball, Park Ji-seok held it and ran to the top of the arc to waste time. As I lunged for a steal, Park Ji-seok spun away from me. Little did he know that Ouyang was right behind him, intercepting the ball from Park Ji-seok's hands. Ouyang then stepped back to beyond the three-point line and took another shot—three points! The score was now 79! With just twelve seconds left in the game, we were only two points behind. After making that shot, Ouyang was particularly excited, raising his arms in celebration as we rushed over to chest bump him. 0

In just a few seconds, we had hope of turning the game around again. After their inbound pass, the three of us surrounded them in pursuit. Park Ji-seok passed to Liu Wei on the right wing. Liu Wei then threw a high pass to Remy under the basket. No! We couldn't let them score! All three of us rushed to surround Remy. After receiving the ball, Remy went straight for a dunk. In a moment of panic, A Fei reached out with his hand, and the ball hit A Fei's palm without going in. The ball rolled on the floor and was snatched up by Ouyang, who then ran back to the top of the arc and made a break for it. Liu Wei stood in front of him, but Ouyang bounced a pass to me. After receiving it, I stepped back from the free-throw line for a jump shot. "Beep!" The game ended! Was it a buzzer-beater or were we going home? The entire audience fell silent, watching this final thrilling shot! The ball traced a beautiful arc in the air and swished through the net! 99! We had tied it up; we had scored seven consecutive points to force overtime! 0

As we walked off the court, the audience erupted in applause for us. The three of us hugged tightly together as Ouyang's tears flowed freely; he pounded his fists hard on my and A Fei's backs. "Cough cough, Ouyang calm down; we haven't won yet; we've just entered the free-throw showdown stage. Our backs can’t take much more; ease up," I quickly pushed him away and sat down on the bench; my back couldn't handle it. "Team members, we're heading into free-throw battle now. Winning this game doesn't guarantee us advancement, but if we lose, we'll be going home early. So are you all missing home?" I asked them. They both replied in unison: "Not at all! We haven't had enough time in Beijing!" "Then let's focus on making those shots during free-throw battle!" I encouraged them. "Don't worry; with our trio firing together, we'll definitely hit every shot! Our series isn't over yet; it's just beginning!" 0

After a while, we walked back onto the court to start our free-throw battle, with us taking the first shot. "I'll go first," A Fei said beside me. I nodded: "Okay, don't be nervous; I know your free-throw percentage is good; you should be able to make it without any issues." I patted his shoulder as A Fei stepped up to the line and received the ball from the referee. He dribbled a few times to calm himself down before taking his shot—A Fei's touch was incredibly soft as he swished it through the net. We took an early lead in free throws against Liu Wei from their team who stepped up next; Liu Wei stared at the basket for a few seconds before quickly shooting and scoring as well—11. 0

Now it was my turn for free throws. After dribbling a few times and lifting the ball above my head, I hesitated before finally releasing it—swish! I scored again! Yes! Thankfully I didn't miss; now it was up to Firearms Team's shooting percentage—please mess up! I prayed for them. 0

This time they sent out their captain Luo Bing who quickly received the ball and made his shot—he scored immediately and tied it up again. Now it was our turn again; Ouyang smirked as he stepped forward: "Watch this!" He stood at the free-throw line after receiving the ball from the referee and swiftly released his shot—it went straight through! This time they sent out their international player Park Ji-seok who approached and stood at the line with his hands together murmuring something before taking two quick dribbles and shooting—the ball bounced twice on the rim before going in—it was clearly luck! Park Ji-seok sighed in relief as he walked off. 0

Next up was A Fei again who confidently made another shot—4! What an incredible shooter he is! We had made all four of our free throws without missing a single one; now it all came down to Remy's turn for his shot. As Remy walked up holding the ball, I suddenly noticed he looked somewhat uneasy—I felt a surge of joy; could this tall American black guy be a free-throw disaster? 0

Remy strode confidently to the line but began dribbling awkwardly without any rhythm; after about three minutes he was still adjusting his dribble while we were nearly losing our minds—the referee signaled him to hurry up! Remy gave an awkward smile towards the referee as an apology gesture before finally taking his shot—the ball bounced twice on the rim before flying out—we won! 4! This meant we had triumphed in this nail-biting free-throw showdown against Firearms Team and secured our first victory during this trip to Beijing! We could finally breathe easy for a moment because we still held onto hopes of advancing to North China's semifinals. 0

"We won!" A Fei punched my shoulder excitedly as I feigned pain: "We won so what? Why are you hitting me? You almost dislocated my shoulder!" Ouyang remained surprisingly calm as he walked off; it was strange since he had always been known for his wild celebrations—why was he acting differently this time? 0
