The gaze directed at Jiang Jiewen caused a stir in the class, with the boys straightening up and presenting their most impressive postures, much like males in the animal kingdom showcasing their most colorful traits in front of females.
"Let's go, Jiang Jiewen," a classmate beside her nudged, bringing her back to reality. Jiang Jiewen's emotions were difficult to articulate. It had been nearly eight years since she last saw Jiang Chen after graduating from Junior High, and encountering him in such a setting felt surreal.
On the open space beneath the teaching building, Class Six and Class Nine met, and their homeroom teachers exchanged pleasantries.
"Since we're all dining at the Golden Qilin Hotel, let's go together. After all, I'm still your Chinese teacher from Class Six," said the homeroom teacher of Class Nine.
"Then let's head over together," Jiang Chen's homeroom teacher replied with a smile.
Both teachers were veterans at this Junior High, and as educators, their pride naturally lay in their students. The homeroom teacher from Class Nine took the opportunity to boast about their outstanding student representative, Jiang Jiewen. Meanwhile, Jiang Chen's teacher mentioned a few students who performed well academically, though Jiang Chen was not among them. Although he had excellent grades initially, he did not manage to get into university later on. Qi Mu had managed to enroll at Jiangcheng University, but it paled in comparison to Jiang Jiewen's Jinling University.
Jiang Jiewen kept stealing glances at Jiang Chen; however, being pulled by her homeroom teacher as a point of pride made it difficult for her to approach him directly.
As both classes chatted and laughed while leaving the school, they realized that the Golden Qilin Hotel was about seven or eight miles away, necessitating a car ride. With nearly a hundred students from both classes attending, many had cars available, so there was no need for taxis; they could simply ride with classmates who drove.
"Class Representative, my car is over there; come ride with me," Chen Chaoyue said as he approached Jiang Jiewen, pointing to his conspicuous Porsche with a hint of pride.
"No thanks," Jiang Jiewen replied casually, her eyes scanning the crowd until she quickly spotted Jiang Chen on his electric bike. Without hesitation now, she walked towards him.
"Class Representative, I won't bite you, and only my car can match your status," Chen Chaoyue insisted.
But Jiang Jiewen ignored Chen Chaoyue's words and continued walking in a specific direction.
Seeing Chen Chaoyue's disappointment brought satisfaction to many boys; if Jiang Jiewen had actually gotten into Chen Chaoyue's sports car, those who viewed her as a goddess would have felt as if they had swallowed a fly.
"Jiang Chen, can you give me a ride?" Jiang Jiewen boldly approached him in front of everyone.
"Hop on," Jiang Chen replied succinctly.
Jiang Jiewen beamed with joy and quickly climbed onto Jiang Chen's electric bike, gripping the back of his shirt with both hands, feeling both nervous and excited.
Once she was settled, Jiang Chen started the bike and sped off.
Both Class Nine and Class Six students looked on in astonishment at this scene. While they could hardly accept that Jiang Jiewen might have gotten into Chen Chaoyue's sports car—making them feel uneasy—seeing her on Jiang Chen's bike was even harder for them to comprehend.
"Who is that riding the electric scooter? Does anyone know them? It's so strange that Jiang Jiewen isn't taking Chen Chaoyue's sports car and is instead on an electric scooter," the classmates of Jiang Jiewen said, all wearing expressions of confusion and surprise. However, none of them recognized Jiang Chen.
