"Li Fuxiu, I can't explain everything clearly at the moment, but one thing is certain: that young man just now is not my daughter's boyfriend," Jiang Shi stated seriously. This middle-aged man was not an ordinary person; he was Jiang Shi's superior, the Director of the Police Department, Li Fuxiu.
Li Fuxiu and Jiang Shi had studied together at the same police academy, but afterward, Li Fuxiu's career had progressed much more smoothly. While Jiang Shi had only been promoted to the county police chief, Li Fuxiu had already become the director.
Li Fuxiu had come to Qingcheng County just before the New Year not to catch up with Jiang Shi but because things had been unsettled in Qingcheng County recently. Although there hadn't been any major incidents, the situation was quite strange, prompting Li Fuxiu to come personally to take a look.
With a slight smile, Li Fuxiu did not linger on the topic of "Jiang Jiewen's boyfriend" and said, "Let's discuss official matters first."

"Li Fuxiu, you should go rest at the guesthouse for now. We'll head to the crime scene tonight," Jiang Shi said to Li Fuxiu.
"Okay, you take care of your business first," Li Fuxiu nodded in agreement.
"Jiang Jiewen, let's go," Jiang Shi glanced at his daughter before pushing the door open and leaving.
In the car, Jiang Shi's expression was grim. The case was tricky, but his daughter's romantic issues were equally challenging.
"Dad, it's almost New Year. Are there really any cases left? Why do we have to go to the crime scene tonight?" Jiang Jiewen asked curiously. Rather than waiting for her father to speak up, she decided to change the subject herself.
"It's a very strange case—quite complicated and somewhat... not human in nature. You don't need to pry into it; let's talk about your matters instead," Jiang Shi replied lightly.
"I... I’m fine!" Jiang Jiewen said with less conviction than she intended.
"Heh, fine? You've been thinking about Jiang Chen for years; now that you've seen him today, don't you feel he has no interest in you? Don't let it turn into unrequited love! Besides, I think Jiang Chen is quite ordinary and doesn't deserve you!" Jiang Shi said sternly.
"Dad, I've told you before that Jiang Chen's abilities are not something an average person can recognize. Just leave my matters alone," Jiang Jiewen whispered.
"If you weren't my daughter, I wouldn't interfere in your affairs. But since you are my daughter, I must take charge! By the way, since you've resigned this time, why not take the provincial civil service exam?
