"This is getting interesting," Mo Wen thought, realizing that it wasn't the Pointer malfunctioning, but rather that he had unknowingly wandered into the Confusion Zone.
Elder Zhu had mentioned the Confusion Zone before entering the Lava Sea. It was a peculiar existence within the Lava Sea; once someone got close to these areas, the Pointer would fail, leaving individuals to flounder about like headless flies without its guidance. If the Pointer failed on solid ground, one could still rely on the stars above to navigate. However, this was the underground world, where there were no celestial bodies to observe. Thus, anyone venturing into the Lava Sea had to depend solely on the Pointer for direction.
The dangers within the Lava Sea had been ranked, with Demon Beast attacks taking first place and the Confusion Zone coming in second. However, in terms of fatality rates, the Confusion Zone surpassed even the Demon Beasts. The reasoning was simple: while one could escape from a Demon Beast attack, once trapped in the Confusion Zone, it was exceedingly difficult to find a way out.
The Confusion Zone was not marked on any maps provided by Elder Zhu. This was partly because it typically appeared in deeper waters and mainly because it couldn't be pinpointed. The Confusion Zone was not a fixed location; it moved and could suddenly appear or vanish. When a Confusion Zone disappeared, those trapped within it, along with any Demon Beasts, would also vanish. If a large area of the Confusion Zone were to disappear, it would create an almost desolate region for a period of time, and no one knew where those who disappeared along with it had gone.
According to those who managed to escape from the Confusion Zone, they did so just before it vanished. As for how they accomplished this, it was purely by luck; the Confusion Zone could block most Divine Perception, making many of the things seen within it potentially deceptive.
The peculiar nature of the Confusion Zone had attracted much research and exploration. People were eager to understand how it formed, whether there were any patterns to its behavior, and most importantly, how to deal with it. However, after a long period of study, no answers emerged. Researchers merely warned people to stay away if they encountered a Confusion Zone. Although exploration and research had ceased, rumors about the Confusion Zone proliferated. Some speculated that it was an entrance to another world where those who vanished and the Demon Beasts had gone; others claimed that ancient lost Magic Circles were still at work. Yet neither theory had any direct or indirect evidence to support it, further adding to the mystery surrounding the Confusion Zone.
For Mo Wen at that moment, he didn't care what the Confusion Zone truly was; all he wanted was to leave this cursed place as soon as possible. There seemed to be no pattern to when the Confusion Zone appeared or disappeared—some lasted only for a few hours while others seemed almost permanent. The thought of being trapped here forever with Xiao Hei made Mo Wen's expression grow even darker.
"Xiao Hei, we're in trouble!" Mo Wen said helplessly as he looked at Xiao Hei, who was fast asleep.
"Ah! Boss, you go ahead; I'll cheer you on!" Xiao Hei sprang up at Mo Wen's voice.
"Cheer me on? We're trapped! Why didn't you wake me up?" Mo Wen had specifically instructed Xiao Hei before his meditation that if trouble arose, he must wake him.
"Uh, Boss, I’m sorry! We didn’t encounter any trouble along the way. I saw you meditating and got bored; then I felt a bit sleepy and thought I’d just take a quick nap... I promise I only wanted to doze off for a moment."
Was this just dozing off? He was completely asleep! Looking at Xiao Hei's innocent expression made Mo Wen sigh internally. At this point, he couldn't blame Xiao Hei; after all, he hadn't intended to hold any grudge against him either.
