Since the Xi Men Car Accident Incident, Su Mu has gained a reputation as the “Daoist Physician” that has spread both within and beyond the school. Many people have come seeking his help, some for medical treatment and others for fortune-telling. Su Mu politely declined the requests for fortune-telling, fully aware of his limited understanding of the Gua Xiang in the Heavenly Secrets Medical Manual, and he did not dare to predict anyone's fate lightly.
However, one day, a special request arrived. A middle-aged man appeared before Su Mu, looking haggard and with dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn’t rested properly in a long time. He claimed that his home was experiencing “Haunting” and that strange occurrences had been happening for several days, leaving his family restless and anxious. He hoped that Su Mu could help resolve the situation.
The man introduced himself as Mr. Li, who had been referred to Su Mu by his friend, Old Zhang. Old Zhang had previously suffered from a peculiar illness, a chronic cough that baffled many doctors, leading him to give up on treatment until Su Mu successfully cured him. Since then, Old Zhang had praised Su Mu’s Acupuncture and Medical Skills to anyone who would listen.
Upon hearing about the strange happenings at Mr. Li's home, Old Zhang immediately thought of Su Mu and provided him with the contact information.
Mr. Li explained that he had consulted several well-known “masters” in the area, but after entering his home, they either left in a hurry with pale faces or spoke in vague terms without offering any solutions. Desperate and feeling like he was grasping at straws, he turned to Su Mu.
He described the bizarre events occurring in his home with a tone of fear and disbelief: at midnight, faint scratching sounds could be heard in the bedroom, resembling mice gnawing on wood; yet upon inspection, no traces could be found.
In the living room, an antique vase would sway slightly on its own without anyone touching it. Once, Mr. Li witnessed the vase slowly float up before gently descending again, as if an invisible hand was manipulating it.
Their Golden Retriever, usually gentle and calm, had recently begun barking frantically at empty corners of the house as if it had seen something terrifying; its fur stood on end while it emitted low whimpers.
Even more unsettling was that family members began experiencing various ailments: Mr. Li’s wife suffered from nightmares every night, dreaming of a vague figure watching her from the darkness and waking up drenched in cold sweat; his son, once lively and active, had become withdrawn and often isolated himself in his room with a vacant stare; even Mr. Li himself started suffering from insomnia, dizziness, and loss of appetite, as if shrouded by some invisible force…
These strange occurrences continued to escalate in both frequency and eeriness. The Li family was on the brink of collapse. Anxiously looking at Su Mu, hope filled his eyes: “Doctor Su… you must help me… our whole family is relying on you…”
Though Su Mu remained skeptical about the notion of “Haunting,” he could see that Mr. Li’s fear was genuine and that there were indeed oddities surrounding these events. The recommendation from Old Zhang, combined with the desperate plea from the Li family, compelled him to visit their home to uncover whether this was truly a “Haunting” or if there were other underlying issues…
Although Su Mu was skeptical about the notion of "haunting," Mr. Li's anxious and sincere demeanor moved him.
Su Mu followed Mr. Li to his home, a standalone villa located on the outskirts of the city. The surroundings were serene, with lush trees providing shade, and at first glance, everything seemed normal. However, as soon as he stepped through the villa's front door, Su Mu felt an inexplicable sense of oppression, as if a chill and dampness lingered in the air.
Mr. Li's home was tastefully decorated, indicating a well-off background. Yet, the warm and cozy atmosphere that should have filled the space was overshadowed by an eerie silence. The servants wore serious expressions and walked on tiptoe, as if afraid to disturb something.
Su Mu scanned the room, his keen eyes capturing every detail. He noticed an oddly shaped antique vase in the living room. Its surface was smooth like a mirror, subtly reflecting the surrounding light and giving it a somewhat sinister appearance. Mr. Li pointed at the vase, his voice trembling as he said, "It's that... it moves on its own..."
Su Mu approached the vase for a closer inspection. While there was nothing particularly unusual about it, he noted that its placement was strange; it faced directly towards the front door, creating a straight line. A thought struck him, and he took out a compass to measure the house's orientation and the vase's position. Indeed, the vase aligned with what was known as the "Ghost Gate Line," which in feng shui terms indicated an extremely unfavorable layout.
"Mr. Li, your house faces south with the front door facing north, and this vase is positioned directly opposite the door along the 'Ghost Gate Line.' In feng shui, this line tends to gather negative energy, leading to disturbances in the energy field and causing strange phenomena," Su Mu explained.
Mr. Li looked bewildered but understood that Su Mu was not speaking lightly. He quickly asked, "Then... what should we do?"
After a moment of contemplation, Su Mu replied, "I'll take a look around first."
He made his way to Mr. Li's son's room. The room was dimly lit with tightly drawn curtains, and a faint musty smell hung in the air. Su Mu noticed that the head of the bed faced the window, which overlooked a tall Sophora tree whose branches nearly reached inside.
"The Sophora tree is associated with negative energy; its branches extending into the window block sunlight and gather yin energy, adversely affecting the health and fortune of those living here," Su Mu explained.
Next, Su Mu entered Mr. Li's wife's bedroom. The room's arrangement seemed fine at first glance, but he sensed an unusual chill emanating from beneath the bed. Crouching down to inspect further, he discovered an old copper mirror hidden under there.
"Copper mirrors can reflect harmful energy; however, if placed improperly, they can absorb negative energy and affect the sleep and emotions of those who reside here," Su Mu stated.
“Mr. Li,” Su Mu pointed at the vase in the living room and said, “This vase is placed on the ‘Ghost Gate Line,’ and it is one of the main causes of the strange occurrences in your home. I suggest you move it to another location, preferably to the southeast corner of the living room, which is the ‘Xun Palace’ and represents wealth. This can enhance your family’s financial luck and health.”
Mr. Li nodded eagerly and immediately instructed the servant to move the vase.
“As for your son’s room,” Su Mu continued, “the bed is facing the window, which overlooks a Sophora Tree, resulting in excessive negative energy. I recommend adjusting the bed's position so that the headboard is against a wall, away from both the window and the Sophora Tree. Additionally, ensure that the room is well-ventilated to maintain air circulation. You can also place some green plants in the room, such as Spider Plants or Green Radishes, which can absorb harmful substances from the air and enhance the room's positive energy.”
Mr. Li nodded again, promising to follow through.
“Furthermore, regarding your wife’s bedroom,” Su Mu said, “it’s best to remove any copper mirrors from under the bed; they should not be kept in the bedroom. If you are reluctant to part with it, you can wrap it in red cloth and store it in a dry, ventilated place.”
Mr. Li repeatedly agreed and promptly took out the copper mirror from under the bed.
Finally, Su Mu retrieved the Heavenly Secrets Medical Manual and prescribed some herbal remedies based on Mr. Li’s family’s various symptoms. “Changing your feng shui environment takes time, but these herbal medicines will help your family recover quickly and boost their immunity.”
The Li family was immensely grateful to Su Mu. They followed his advice to adjust their home and took the herbal medicine as prescribed.
A week later, Mr. Li contacted Su Mu again, his voice filled with joy. “Doctor Su, thank you so much! Since we adjusted our home layout according to your suggestions, the strange occurrences have truly disappeared! My wife no longer has nightmares, my son has become more cheerful, and my dizziness and insomnia have improved significantly! You are truly a miraculous doctor!”
Su Mu smiled slightly and replied, “You flatter me; it’s not that extraordinary. In this scientific age, it’s merely a combination of feng shui and medical principles. The influence of feng shui on people is subtle; a good feng shui environment can enhance health and fortune, while a poor one can bring negative effects.”
This experience also deepened Su Mu’s understanding of the Heavenly Secrets Medical Manual.
