After a fifteen-minute halftime break, we stepped back onto the court. The three of us, the Three Musketeers, were still on the floor, with Tu Lei replacing Li Kanglin to play inside with Lu Yinghao. This was a rather tough warm-up match. As the third quarter began, we continued our aggressive offense. The opposing starting five were still on the court, defending their team's honor. With just over a minute left in the third quarter, I faced the opposing point guard and executed a crossover step to shake him off before driving straight to the basket. Li Kanglin and Lu Yinghao held their ground against the opposing strong Power Forward, but their Giant Center jumped up with his hands raised. Seeing this, I leaped into the air, performing an evasive maneuver. Just as I was about to shoot, the opposing Center suddenly swung his arm forcefully towards my arm. The heavy blow struck my arm perfectly, causing me to lose control of the ball. The referee's whistle immediately blew as I landed awkwardly.
"Ouch, that was quite a hit," I complained while looking at the red handprint on my arm; it hurt like hell. However, it resulted in the giant's fifth foul, so it was worth it. I slowly walked to the free-throw line as the referee tossed me the ball. I dribbled twice, took a deep breath to focus my gaze, and then shot the ball, which swished through the net. Ouyang and A Fei came over to high-five me, with A Fei softly saying, "Nice shot! Don't be nervous; take your time." I nodded as the referee tossed me a second ball. Using the same technique, I made another shot and then retreated to wait for defense. The opposing point guard slowly brought the ball upcourt and bent down to control it. I stood opposite him, ready for a standoff. His eyes were locked on mine as he dribbled; I was sure he would suddenly change direction and accelerate past me, so I stayed tense and alert for any sudden moves.
Sure enough, he began to make slight movements before suddenly dashing towards me from my right side. I had anticipated this and quickly backed away to hold my ground against him. He didn't expect my timely defense and nearly collided with my chest before passing back to his forward. The forward then quickly bounced a pass to their Power Forward under the basket, who scored with a hook shot. After we resumed play, I made a long pass to Ouyang. Ouyang jumped from three steps beyond the three-point line for an incredibly long three-pointer! How bold of him! The ball traced a beautiful arc in the air before heading straight for the hoop! With fourteen seconds left in the third quarter, we led Yuce High School by nine points at 76-67. The Yuce point guard stared at Ouyang in disbelief; after all, Ouyang was our national treasure-level sharpshooter at Yulin High School.
After they inbounded the ball, they organized one last attack. As they consumed most of their shot clock down to just five seconds remaining, they began their drive. We responded with a 2-3 zone defense; their player inside forced a shot from just inside the three-point line as the referee's whistle blew simultaneously—the ball went in just as time expired for a buzzer-beater! After three quarters, we led Yuce High School by seven points at 76-69 entering the fourth quarter.
"Wow! Awesome! Ouyang has some incredible skills!" Li Kanglin exclaimed as he slapped Ouyang on the shoulder. Ouyang chuckled modestly and replied, "Hehe, it was just luck." Just then, Teacher Qiu turned to Ouyang and said, "Ouyang, that shot was quite irrational; however, your confidence is commendable. But your shooting percentage from that position is too low—if you miss it could give them an opportunity to score two or three points back on us." Ouyang nodded seriously as he listened; I thought Teacher Qiu was overreacting—it was just one long-range three-pointer after all.
We returned to play in the final quarter; Liu Xiao replaced me while Du substituted for Ouyang. A Fei took charge of leading our team alone on the court. Liu Xiao brought the ball upcourt specifically focusing on facilitating plays for everyone else since he knew from watching that he wouldn't gain any advantage against their point guard "rk."
Rk had excellent playmaking ability and easily broke past Liu Xiao while their Center dominated under the basket. Together they led their team on a 7-0 run that closed our lead down to just two points. They substituted out their Center and rk for some rest. With seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, Teacher Qiu sent me back onto the court along with Ouyang and Lu Yinghao; our starting five were back together again. Once on court, I faced their backup point guard and quickly crossed over him before going for a layup when suddenly a massive figure blocked my path. I stopped abruptly as Li Kanglin and Lu Yinghao were busy holding off their Power Forward while an opposing forward rushed over to help defend me—Li Kanglin and Lu Yinghao couldn't get there in time.
With their point guard tightly guarding me from behind, I had no choice but to shoot. I faked a shot but found that their Center wasn't fooled at all; with only two seconds left on the shot clock, I launched the ball high into the air—it soared about five meters up before coming down hard against the rim and bouncing straight up again.
My heart raced as I watched it hit hard against the rim; then I dashed forward hoping to grab the rebound. As it fell again, it swished cleanly through the net amidst gasps from everyone in attendance—I couldn't help but pump my fist in excitement! Luck had truly favored me this time! However, it struck me as odd that during finals week at Yuce High School students could be here watching this game—had teachers given them time off? The game continued as their two big men under the basket caused us significant headaches by consistently grabbing rebounds; thus our lead remained tight.
They substituted in both their point guard and forward again just as it became our turn to attack once more. With possession of the ball while eyeing their Rock Guard (rk), I executed my Lingbo Microstep maneuver to shake him off before jumping from near the free-throw line only to have their Giant Center block my shot! Damn it! That colossal figure was truly infuriating!
