Jiang Chen had already noticed the change in Guan Waipo's attitude towards his godmother; they had returned to a genuine mother-daughter relationship. Therefore, he extended his sincere greetings. As for Grandpa Gan, since he had not yet acknowledged his godmother, Jiang Chen naturally did not inquire about him.
"This must be Jiang Chen," Guan Waipo said, looking at him with a hint of knowing curiosity. Over the past two years, Zhou Rongli had mentioned Jiang Chen numerous times, so the elderly lady was well aware of her powerful great-grandson.
Jiang Chen nodded in acknowledgment. The elder then remarked, "You look quite spirited, young man."
Zhou Duanmei and Zhou Lianhua also brought their families to greet Jiang Chen, but in his presence, both families seemed somewhat reserved.
Jiang Chen was not an unfriendly person; he smiled and responded to each of them warmly.
After settling down in the living room, Zhou Duanmei and Zhou Lianhua busied themselves in the kitchen while Jiang Chen's family chatted with Guan Waipo.
"By the way, Grandma, President Yue Hui from Yue Group will be coming over to pay her New Year’s respects," Jiang Chen suddenly said. He felt it necessary to give everyone a heads-up to avoid any surprises later.
"President Yue Hui? How could she possibly come? Oh, Jiang Chen, is she your girlfriend? Miss Yue is quite the famous beauty in Hangcheng; if she likes you, you should seize the opportunity!" Guan Waipo exclaimed, momentarily taken aback before breaking into a smile.
"Grandma, Miss Yue is just an ordinary friend of mine. I’m not looking to date anyone right now; let’s change the subject," Jiang Chen quickly redirected.
"Mom, Miss Yue is indeed wonderful, but your grandson is currently surrounded by so many flowers that he doesn’t even know how to choose," Zhou Rongli teased.
Jiang Chen listened helplessly, responding only with a wry smile.
Though these topics were clichéd, they were filled with the essence of everyday life. Jiang Chen was no longer the aloof Mr. Jiang; he accepted these questions with a cheerful demeanor and responded as an ordinary person would.
Around ten o'clock, Yue Hui arrived to pay her New Year’s visit, carrying a large bag of gifts. Jiang Chen personally went out to greet her.
"Mr. Jiang, you’ve finally emerged!" Yue Hui gazed at him affectionately.
"Yes, it’s been two years," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
"Your absence for two years had everyone worried! By the way, I didn’t expect your Guan Waipo’s family to be right here in Hangcheng. I hope my visit isn’t too intrusive?" Yue Hui asked nervously.
"What do I have to worry about! Yes, I found out just recently. Since you’re here, come on in," Jiang Chen said as he took the gifts from her hands with a gentle smile.
Yue Hui and Jiang Chen walked side by side into the villa's hall.
"They make quite a pair," Guan Waipo remarked with a grin.
Upon hearing this, Yue Hui blushed deeply and stole glances at Jiang Chen. He wore an expression of helplessness and did not argue; he simply introduced her briefly.
"Miss Yue, you’re too polite," Guan Waipo warmly welcomed her. Being a prominent figure in Hangcheng society, she naturally recognized her.
"It’s what I should do; I’m just here to see you as friends," Yue Hui quickly replied.
"Miss Yue, you truly are a good girl; I wonder who will benefit from you in the future," Guan Waipo chuckled.
"Cough, cough!" Jiang Chen turned his head to the side, feeling a sense of helplessness. "Guan Waipo, can you not look at me when you say that?"
After the pleasantries, everyone settled back into the living room. With Yue Hui's arrival, the conversation picked up once more.
