Zhou Pingyong grew increasingly excited, his thoughts scattering in all directions. "Murder must be paid for; it's only natural," he said, reflecting the common mindset. "How could Jiang Chen kill so many people and still escape unscathed?"
As soon as these words left his mouth, the old lady's expression changed dramatically.
"You—where did you hear such things? Don't speak carelessly! How could Jiang Chen possibly kill so many?" The old lady's face was grave.
"Naturally, I found out through inquiries, Mom. If you don't believe me, just ask your good grandson," Zhou Pingyong sneered.
The old lady turned to Jiang Chen, her eyes filled with worry and suspicion.
"My dear grandson, what your uncle said—it's not true, is it?" she asked.
Jiang Chen had indeed killed some people, a fact he preferred to keep from his family. However, Zhou Pingyong had some means to uncover these matters. Since it was already out in the open, Jiang Chen had no choice but to acknowledge it.
He nodded calmly.
"Really?" The old lady gasped in shock, disbelief etched across her aged face.
"Xiao Chen, you should listen to your god-grandmother. You must learn to hide your talents. Though I may not be well-educated, I know a saying: 'A tree that stands out in the forest will be toppled by the wind.' Sometimes, being too outstanding can attract trouble even if you remain hidden. How can you easily commit murder? Taking a life is creating a karmic debt!" The old lady sighed heavily.
"Mom, don't worry about Xiao Chen; I trust him. Even if he has committed murder, it was because those people deserved it," Zhou Rongli interjected.
The Zhou family still didn't truly understand Jiang Chen. Zhou Rongli didn't know how to explain; those who were willing to believe would do so, while those who weren't would turn a blind eye even when faced with the truth.
"Grandma, don't worry; I know what I'm doing. To be frank, if it weren't for certain individuals being slightly connected to me, they would already be dead," Jiang Chen said casually, his gaze unflinching as it met Zhou Pingyong's.
Zhou Pingyong was taken aback by Jiang Chen's stare and quickly stepped back.
"What do you want? Are you planning to murder me? Zhou Rongli, you need to control your murderous son! It's truly a misfortune for our family to have such a grandson," he said while retreating.
"You should just shut up; my son doesn't need my guidance," Zhou Rongli replied coldly.
Jiang Chen chuckled at Zhou Pingyong's panicked demeanor and remarked, "Since you've investigated me, you should know who I've killed. Your worth is nothing compared to them; if I dared to kill them, why wouldn't I kill you?"
Zhou Pingyong's fear of Jiang Chen was palpable. He saw the murderous intent in Jiang Chen's tone and hastily brought the old lady into the conversation.
"Mom, look at what this kid is saying! Someone like him is best avoided. If our family doesn't distance itself from him, we will surely be dragged down one day. Our Huaxia government cannot tolerate such a murderer!" Zhou Pingyong genuinely feared Jiang Chen and sought to protect his family from potential repercussions.
