However, Jiang Chen obediently walked into the great hall. As he stepped inside, he could clearly sense a wave of energy—this was the fluctuation of a formation. Jiang Chen had been quite restrained; had he not deliberately concealed his strength, his aura alone would have likely caused the illusion to collapse upon his entry.
Moreover, Jiang Chen realized that the core of this illusion was indeed the great hall of the Daoist temple. After countless years, the spiritual and mental energy sustaining the illusion had grown increasingly weak. It wouldn’t take a hundred years for this illusion to fall apart.
“Hmm!?” Seeing Jiang Chen enter the hall with an air of calmness and no hint of surprise, the middle-aged Daoist seated on a meditation cushion couldn’t help but exclaim softly, astonished and incredulous.
“This illusion was created by you, wasn’t it?” Jiang Chen asked straightforwardly.
“Young man, you’ve surprised me; it seems you’ve already figured it out,” the middle-aged Daoist regained his composure and replied nonchalantly.
“A mere barrier can be seen through at a glance,” Jiang Chen remarked casually.
The middle-aged Daoist stared at Jiang Chen in a daze. His tone was rather arrogant, yet it exuded a strong confidence that left the Daoist somewhat shaken. Although he now existed only as a remnant of consciousness within the painting, he still had a general understanding of the outside world. Through the various masters of the secluded mountain temple, he had learned about the changes in the world outside. If he remembered correctly, they were currently in an era where Daoist techniques were waning and spiritual energy was scarce.
In this age, it was nearly impossible to cultivate powerful immortals, yet this young man before him was remarkably extraordinary. Could it be that he was not from this planet but from another realm? A visitor from an extraterrestrial secret domain? Had the gates to that secret domain reopened?
The middle-aged Daoist pondered many things in an instant. When he looked at Jiang Chen again, he became somewhat cautious. Initially, he intended to intimidate the visitor with an air of superiority, but now his tone shifted to one of negotiation and equality.
“Young man, are you from Earth?” the middle-aged Daoist asked.
“Yes and no,” Jiang Chen replied.
Upon hearing Jiang Chen's answer, the middle-aged Daoist's expression grew even more serious. He had planned to wait for a fated person to arrive; if someone more powerful than himself came along, given his current state, he would essentially be at their mercy.
Though the middle-aged Daoist concealed his emotions well, Jiang Chen saw through him and couldn’t help but chuckle lightly. “You needn’t be so tense. I want to know why you set up this illusion in the painting to attract viewers into it.”
“Before I answer that question, I’d like to understand you better. You mentioned you are from Earth but also not from Earth—what does that mean? Are you a descendant of Earth people from the extraterrestrial secret domain?” the middle-aged Daoist inquired.
“I haven’t been to any extraterrestrial secret domain; there are countless realms in the Great Thousand World, not just that one suitable for cultivation. I’ve simply visited other foreign worlds. However, one thing is certain: I am indeed a genuine Earth person,” Jiang Chen said with a smile, not lying at all.
“No wonder,” the middle-aged Daoist nodded slightly, not overly surprised. In the universe, aside from the extraterrestrial secret domain, there were indeed other worlds.
Yet for Jiang Chen to travel to other foreign realms for cultivation and then return to Earth was truly remarkable and not to be underestimated.
“Now tell me about yourself,” Jiang Chen prompted.
