The morning sunlight streamed through the shattered windows of the abandoned factory.
I squinted my eyes.
Listening to the footsteps drawing closer.
My mind raced with strategies.
"How many are there?"
I whispered.
"At least twenty, fully armed."
Xiao Yu crouched by the window, calmly observing the situation outside.
"And there's an armored vehicle; looks like it's from the 'Iron Fortress' patrol team."
"Wow! So many people!"
Zhong Dali exclaimed, rubbing his hands together in excitement.
"Are we going to gang up on them?"
"Shut up!"
Xiao Yu and I shouted simultaneously.
This fool, even at a time like this, was thinking about a brawl.
I cursed inwardly.
Did he think this was a game?
Twenty fully armed soldiers and an armored vehicle.
This was no joke.
"Quick! Retreat through the back door!"
I grabbed Scarface Tiger by the collar and dragged him out from under the steel beam.
Scarface Tiger let out a yelp.
"Watch it, damn it!"
"Call me again, and I'll make sure you can never speak again."
I threatened fiercely.
This guy was really a nuisance.
If it weren't for the fact that he had some useful information, I would have kicked him away without a second thought.
Suddenly, Xiaoyu turned around.
With a swift motion, she brought the butt of her gun down on Scarface Tiger's head.
It was clean and decisive.
"Bang!"
"That saves us some time," she said expressionlessly.
I looked at the unconscious Scarface Tiger, my lips twitching slightly.
"You really are ruthless."
Though I had thought about doing the same, I still felt that Xiaoyu had been a bit too heavy-handed.
"Wow! So cool!"
Zhong Dali gave a thumbs up.
This guy was hopeless.
I rubbed my forehead in exasperation.
At that moment, a blinding spotlight shone in through the window, illuminating the entire workshop.
"Listen up inside! We are the patrol team from 'Iron Fortress,' and you are surrounded!"
A cold voice echoed through the loudspeaker.
"Drop your weapons and surrender!"
"Run!"
We dragged the unconscious Scarface Tiger and rushed out through the back door.
Just a few meters out, we heard a flurry of footsteps and the mechanical whirring behind us.
"Target spotted! Open fire!"
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A series of bullets exploded at our feet, sending shards of stone flying.
"Turn left!"
Xiao Yu suddenly shouted.
"There’s an alley over there!"
We darted into the alley.
The pursuers followed closely behind.
"Zhong Dali, block the alley entrance!"
I shouted while running.
"Got it!"
Zhong Dali stopped in his tracks.
He grabbed an abandoned car by the roadside and hurled it toward the alley entrance.
Boom!
The car crashed to the ground, blocking most of the alleyway.
The pursuers were taken aback by this sudden turn of events and halted in their tracks.
"Freak!"
Someone shouted in panic.
I couldn't help but chuckle to myself.
Perverts?
What was that?
If they truly witnessed the real power of Zhong Dali, they would probably be scared out of their wits.
We took the opportunity to slip into an abandoned apartment building.
We twisted and turned, shaking off our pursuers.
"Ha..."
I leaned against the wall, breathing heavily.
"We're safe for now."
"Wait!"
Xiao Yu suddenly said.
"What about the chip?"
I patted my pocket.
My expression changed instantly.
"Oh no!"
The chip had fallen out at some point.
My heart sank to the bottom.
We had fought tooth and nail to get our hands on it.
If we lost it just like that, all our previous efforts would have been in vain.
"Wow!"
Zhong Dali suddenly spoke up.
"Is this it?"
He pulled out the black chip from his pocket.
"When did you...?"
I looked at him in surprise.
"I picked it up just now; you dropped it."
Zhong Dali said with a silly grin.
"I noticed you seemed quite attached to this little thing."
Xiao Yu and I exchanged glances.
We both laughed.
"Well done!"
Although this guy usually acts foolishly, he can be quite reliable in critical moments.
"Ahhh..."
A groan interrupted our conversation.
Scarface Tiger finally woke up.
"Where is this...?"
He asked, still dazed.
"Heaven."
I crouched down, grinning at him, revealing a mouthful of bloodied teeth.
Scarface Tiger shuddered, shaken back to awareness.
"What... what do you want?" he stammered.
"Cooperation," I replied bluntly.
"Are you kidding?" Scarface Tiger sneered.
"You've offended the Iron Fortress and injured my people. Why should I cooperate with you?"
"Because you don't want to fall into the hands of the Iron Fortress, right?" Xiao Yu interjected suddenly.
"You've hidden their chips. If you're caught, the consequences will be dire."
Scarface Tiger's face turned pale in an instant.
"So," I said, patting his cheek, "we're in this together now."
Just then, hurried footsteps echoed from downstairs.
"Search every floor! They can't have gone far!"
"Damn it!" I muttered under my breath. "Jump out the window!"
Xiao Yu pointed outside. "There's a pile of garbage down there; it will cushion the fall."
"Wait!" Scarface Tiger suddenly exclaimed.
"I know a secret passage that leads directly to the edge of the city."
We exchanged glances.
"Should we trust him?"
Xiao Yu asked me.
I thought for a moment and nodded.
"He’s on our side now; there’s no reason for him to deceive us."
"Alright, lead the way."
I untied Scarface Tiger's ropes.
But the gun still pointed at him.
"Remember, if you try anything funny..."
"I understand, I understand," Scarface Tiger quickly nodded.
Under his guidance, we slipped into the basement of the apartment building.
Scarface Tiger skillfully fiddled with what appeared to be an ordinary pipe valve.
A hidden door suddenly swung open.
"Wow!"
Zhong Dali exclaimed.
"It’s just like in the movies!"
At that moment, a piercing alarm echoed throughout the city.
"Citywide announcement!"
A cold voice came through the loudspeaker.
"A wanted notice has been issued! Anyone who knows or discovers the whereabouts of Wei Na, Zhong Dali, or Xie Yutong will receive a generous reward! They are suspected of stealing classified items from the 'Iron Fortress' and are considered extremely dangerous!"
I listened to the blaring sirens outside.
I couldn't help but smile wryly.
"This is a big trouble."
"Get in quickly!" Scarface Tiger urged.
"We won't make it if we don't hurry!"
We slipped through the dark door, and behind us came the sound of synchronized footsteps and the noise of machinery.
"You better make sure this route is safe," I threatened.
"Don't worry," Scarface Tiger replied with a mysterious smile. "There's a place where even the 'Iron Fortress' can't find us."
The dark door slowly closed behind us.
In the darkness, I vaguely saw a strange glimmer in Scarface Tiger's eyes.
A sudden feeling of unease washed over me.
This guy, he wouldn't be leading us into a trap, would he?
