In this place, there exists a strict hierarchy, resembling a feudal state. At the top of this structure is the Clan Leader of the Sea God Clan, followed by the various elders.
Tie Shan and Tie Luan were close to the city, clearly anxious, as they had committed a guilty act and their psychological resilience was lacking. In contrast, Jiang Chen appeared calm and composed as he strode forward. Approaching the city, Jiang Chen subtly employed an illusion technique and entered right under the guards' noses.
As for Tie Shan and Tie Luan, they were originally from this area and had stolen an exit token to escape. Upon entering the city, it was not as bustling as Jiang Chen had imagined. There were some shops lining the streets, but the flow of people was sparse, giving it a somewhat desolate feel. This was understandable; with only a few thousand inhabitants in the city, unless everyone poured into the streets, it would naturally be quiet. However, after walking a short distance, one could still spot someone.
The locals could be described as unconventional by outsiders; they wore modern clothing but sported ancient hairstyles. To Jiang Chen, this seemed discordant, yet to them, it felt perfectly normal. Of course, there were a few individuals with what Jiang Chen considered normal short hair. Thus, as he walked confidently down the street, no one paid him much attention.
Although there were few people in the city and everyone seemed familiar with each other, their orderly lives had become habitual. No one would suspect that someone would brazenly intrude. Therefore, even though Jiang Chen looked unfamiliar to them, they did not pay him much heed.
This suited Jiang Chen just fine; he enjoyed the peace and strolled leisurely through the city. Tie Shan and Tie Luan had no choice but to accompany him nervously while occasionally introducing various goods available in town.
Surprisingly, the best-selling items here were imports. As for the currency used in transactions, it was all gold. The fact that this small city of several thousand could operate normally for so many years was nothing short of a miracle.
Speaking of gold reminded Jiang Chen of the treasures found in the underwater ruins. However, Tie Shan was unaware of these ruins and could not explain where their gold originated. He did mention that there were many Raksasa Merfolk in the sea who liked to collect gold; it was said that the gold of the Sea God Clan was gathered by Raksasa Merfolk from the ocean floor.
This explained the origin of the gold in the underwater ruins. The sea has swallowed countless ships throughout history, and there are numerous legends about sunken treasures. Raksasa Merfolk collected vast amounts of gold from shipwrecks and stored them in underwater ruins. The gold came from different eras; hence many ingots varied in size and bore different official seals.
After an hour of carefully navigating through the city with Jiang Chen, Tie Shan and Tie Luan had nearly explored all of its "commercial street."
"Um, Mr. Jiang," Tie Shan said hesitantly, "this is roughly what there is to see here. You've had a good look around; can we leave the city now?"
"I haven't met your Clan Leader yet," Jiang Chen replied with a smile as he pointed ahead. "Your Clan Leader should live over there." In the distance stood a towering structure resembling Huanghe Tower in Jiang City but appeared even more grand and ancient.
This building stood out prominently among its surroundings. Moreover, Jiang Chen could sense a powerful yet subtle aura emanating from that direction along with a haze of Spiritual Energy. Clearly, all the strong individuals gathered there; it was also at the center of this secluded paradise's formation.
