Ma Tao emerged from the bathroom, wrapped in a bathrobe. He stood by the bed, looking down at me. "Are you asleep?"
"Yes," I replied, turning my back to him.
He climbed into bed and said, "Go to sleep."
The scent of Ma Tao lingered in the air, making it impossible for me to ignore his presence.
Thinking about the post I had just shared on social media, an idea struck me—I needed to get closer to Ma Tao from now on!
Only by bridging the distance could I better influence him!
With that thought in mind, I wrapped my arms around his neck from behind. "Ma Tao..."
The next morning, I called Ran Ran. "Ran Ran, I successfully captured Ma Tao!"
"What?" Ran Ran exclaimed, shocked. "So soon? What strategy did you use?"
"The beauty trap," I chuckled.
"Impressive," Ran Ran said, giving me a thumbs up. "No wonder I chose you as my sister!"
"Of course!" I replied proudly.
Just then, Ma Tao walked in. "What are you so proud of?"
“Ah…” I jumped in surprise and hurriedly hung up the phone. “No, it’s nothing.”
He placed breakfast on the computer desk. “Get up and eat.”
“Okay.” I lifted the blanket and got out of bed.
Ma Tao sat at the dining table, watching me. “Why aren’t you coming over?”
“I don’t have the energy.” I pouted. “Carry me over.”
He smiled and walked over to pick me up. “I can carry you, but you have to tell me how you managed to win me over.”
“It’s a secret!” I said, winking mysteriously.
Ma Tao shook his head helplessly. “Alright then.”
He set me down in a chair.
I rested my chin on my hand, looking at him. “Ma Tao, how can someone as childish as you smile like that?”
“Are you the only one who can be childish?” he raised an eyebrow in response.
“Eat up.” He picked up a piece of meat for me.
“Oh.” I mumbled and started eating the meat.
After taking a couple of bites, I suddenly remembered something. "Ma Tao, didn't you have some rumors with that popular starlet before?"
He glanced at me and nodded in acknowledgment. "Yeah."
"Then how can you say you have no interest in her?" I glared at him, feeling frustrated.
Ma Tao rubbed his forehead in exasperation. "Are you being silly?"
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.
He sighed. "Those rumors were all handled by you."
It seemed that way.
When Madam Ma asked me to get close to Ma Tao, I had even greeted his rumored girlfriend.
I never expected those rumors would turn into something real.
"Ma Tao," I bit my chopsticks and asked him, "have you ever thought about how we could never be together?"
"Why not?" He put down his chopsticks and looked at me.
"Because..." I paused, "because our social statuses are just too different."
Ma Tao frowned. "What do you mean?"
I sighed, "Think about it. Your family is in business, while mine collects scrap. Our backgrounds are completely different, and our families would definitely not approve of us being together."
"Is that so?" Ma Tao sneered. "I thought you had already convinced them."
"Convinced them of what?" I was taken aback.
Ma Tao glared at me coldly. "When my mother encouraged you to get close to me, you said you really liked me and that you would definitely try to persuade your family to let us be together."
"Later, when you got pregnant, my mother came to ask if you were willing to marry me."
"You said you needed to go back and discuss it with your family."
"But the next day, you miscarried and started avoiding me."
"Yu Lixuan!" He clenched his fists. "Did you ever really intend to marry me?"
I opened my mouth, unsure of what to say.
