After we came out, we immediately began our warm-up training. Chu Yuetao, Luo Yudong, and Haoshuai walked over. "Idol, we meet again! I believe we'll meet again," Luo Yudong said. We laughed and joked around. I looked at them and asked, "You guys really pulled off a huge surprise! Yuetao, how did you manage to convince Haoshuai and Yudong to come?" I punched Chu Yuetao lightly on the shoulder. Haoshuai replied, "Hehe, didn't expect that, right? We originally wanted to be teammates, but having a showdown on the court isn't bad either." After sharing a laugh, we returned to our respective teams. When I got back, Teacher Qiu and the others were discussing everything they had just seen. Upon seeing me return, they all rushed over. Ouyang asked me, "Jie, how are you going to play? It feels like Shierzhong has merged with Yulin and the Street Basketball team." Ouyang is currently the only teammate I've had for three whole years, so he is quite familiar with Haoshuai and Mulin's skills.
I smiled broadly and said, "When soldiers come, we block; when water comes, we dam it. As long as we are strong enough, it doesn't matter who the opponent is. The word 'champion' is earned through hard work and conquering the entire league with strength; it's not something that can be obtained by luck." I was surprised that such motivating words came out of my mouth. The teammates listened intently and nodded seriously. "Go Yulin!" At this moment, our one-third of fans cheered loudly. The fans on the other side were not to be outdone: "Shierzhong is the best! Shierzhong will defeat Yulin..." Even before the game started, the fans were already in a heated battle of cheers. The atmosphere was incredibly intense, with about one-third of neutral players caught in the middle enjoying their verbal sparring. Chu Yuetao and the starting five were gathered together discussing strategies while Coach Luo Qixing was drawing offensive plays on the tactics board. I, Ouyang, Kobe, Zhou Wenming, Chu Yuetao, Haoshuai, Luo Yudong, Mulin, Giant Center... a gathering of stars that truly represented a championship final; it wasn't just two teams in the finals but five teams in a chaotic battle.
With the sound of the referee's whistle, our last game before graduation began. I took off the silver Eagle pendant I wore around my neck and kissed it. Since hard objects aren't allowed during games, I carefully hung the pendant on the back of a chair before stepping onto the court. The referee designated Mulin and Li Kanglin for the opening jump ball. Mulin won the jump and passed it to Chu Yuetao. I closely guarded Chu Yuetao as he dribbled between his legs twice before directly behind-passing to Haoshuai. Haoshuai took a mid-range jump shot... but due to height disadvantage was blocked by Zhou Wenming. Ouyang received the ball and sprinted towards our backcourt for a fast break. He quickly took three steps for a layup under the basket when Luo Yudong jumped high to slam the ball against the backboard. I received the ball and spun twice to shake off Luo Yudong before attempting an airborne turnaround jumper; however, I rushed it too much and missed as it bounced off the rim. The opposing Giant Center grabbed the rebound in front of Li Kanglin and Lu Yinghao before making a strong long pass to a running Chu Yuetao!
Chu Yuetao received the ball and charged straight into the paint while Ouyang and I chased after him defensively. Seeing this opportunity, Chu Yuetao quickly took his shot. We jumped but didn't touch the ball; it bounced on the rim three or four times before finally slipping inside—0 points! This series of fast breaks allowed them to score first; this entire sequence of offense followed by defense consumed only thirty seconds. After going back and forth with them in offense, I felt some pressure; battles between super teams are incredibly intense—a fierce contest of speed and reaction ability ensued. Our exchanges were exceptionally fierce; rapid transitions between offense and defense made for an exciting match that thrilled our fans as they shouted enthusiastically while banging their inflatable sticks in excitement. Every time either side scored a basket, they erupted instantly—everything felt just right! The coordination among Chu Yuetao's team had become quite proficient after this month of adaptation; no wonder they could remain undefeated throughout the season! In the first quarter, our scores were low—19-19—we ended up tied as we walked off for a two-minute break before continuing into the second quarter.
As we walked off the court drenched in sweat but feeling great about our performance, Teacher Qiu personally handed us towels while saying, "Come on, take a break! Hey! Coach Luo Qixing's strategy is pretty effective!" Ouyang laughed: "Coach, you even know this new term 'effective'? That's our youth slang!" "Right! So I'm still young too! Alright then, in the next quarter Kobe will replace Ouyang; let's continue exploring their weaknesses," Teacher Qiu commanded as we adjusted our lineup for the second quarter automatically. We placed our hands together and shouted in unison: "Go! Go! Go!" I picked up my Eagle pendant from my seat and held it tightly before walking back onto the court to continue our journey in this match. Kobe matched up against Haoshuai; with Haoshuai holding the ball facing Kobe he turned his body low to charge under Kobe's armpit for an escape attempt. Kobe's experience allowed him to read this intention clearly; instinctively he crouched down to block him. Haoshuai's reflexes were impressive as he quickly changed direction and passed behind him to Chu Yuetao who controlled the ball against me.
The long-standing rivalry between us should come to an end in this match; whoever wins here will be crowned as the top Point Guard in town. Suddenly he turned around backing me down before executing a difficult step-back turnaround jumper that went in! After landing he stumbled slightly but managed to turn around at this mid-range position almost entirely by feel—Chu Yuetao's basketball instincts are remarkable! Of course, I couldn't just sit back; after we inbounded I strolled up front holding onto the ball before facing Chu Yuetao using my signature move “Lingbo Microstep” to spin past him continuously before taking a contested floater over Luo Yudong that went in—this was a high-difficulty move combining techniques taught by Zhongqi Senior and Jiang Lingfeng; I really missed those seniors! "Jie! You're the best captain!" Suddenly amidst all the noise I heard a familiar voice shout out; I turned around abruptly with wide eyes and mouth agape.
