I watched as Wei Zhong and Mu Rong Shuang walked away, pondering what these two were up to.
Mu Rong Shuang, a member of the Holy Shield Knight Order?
I remembered that the Holy Shield Knight Order was the largest surviving faction in this area, known for their tough and domineering ways. But Mu Rong Shuang seemed... a bit different?
Where was the expected aura of a ruthless CEO?
She looked more like a dazed young lady who hadn’t had enough sleep.
Zhong Dali, that foolish kid, was still munching on that compressed biscuit that nearly caused a bloodbath, looking utterly satisfied. It made my head ache.
If someone didn’t know better, they might think he was feasting on some rare delicacy!
“Hey, Dali,” I patted his shoulder, “can you be a little more mindful?”
“Almost lost your life because of that biscuit!”
Zhong Dali looked at me innocently. “Wei Na, didn’t they say they didn’t want it anymore?”
“It would be such a waste to throw it away…”
Sigh, I was at my wit's end!
This logic was simply unbeatable!
I sighed in resignation; explaining anything to this dim-witted guy was pointless.
“Forget it, forget it,” I waved my hand. “Let’s find a place to rest for a bit and then figure out what to do next.”
Xie Yutong and Xiao Yu also walked over. Their faces were still expressionless, as if the earlier tension had nothing to do with them.
The high-cold sister duo truly lives up to their reputation; their mental fortitude is impressive!
Xie Yutong shot me a cold glance and said, "Wei Na, you'd better not cause any more trouble."
I forced a sheepish smile. This girl really chooses her words carefully. But to be fair, this time I wasn't the one causing trouble; it was that damned Zhong Dali!
I’m not taking the blame for this!
We found a relatively safe corner to sit down, surrounded by dilapidated stalls and scattered debris. The air was thick with a foul stench that made me want to gag.
This smell is something else!
It’s even worse than Old Ba’s secret mini burgers!
"Wei Na, look!" Zhong Dali suddenly shouted, pointing excitedly at something in the distance.
What is he making a fuss about now?
I followed his finger and saw a stall not far away filled with all sorts of canned goods—this was a rare find in this post-apocalyptic world!
My eyes lit up instantly, and my stomach growled in response. After days of eating nothing but dry, tasteless compressed biscuits, I was craving something substantial.
"Let’s go check it out!" I exclaimed excitedly, getting up and beckoning the others to follow.
Canned goods!
My absolute favorite!
We cautiously approached the stall, wary of any potential dangers around us.
After all, in this apocalyptic world, traps are everywhere!
There were no zombies around the stall, nor any other survivors, which struck us as a bit strange.
"Could this... be a trap?" Zhong Dali said with some concern.
This kid was surprisingly smart for once!
"Who cares," I swallowed hard. "Even if there's danger, we have to take the risk. This is canned food we're talking about!"
For canned food, it was worth the gamble!
I approached the stall and picked up a can of beef. After inspecting it thoroughly and confirming it was fine, I eagerly opened the can. A rich aroma wafted out, and I immediately felt my mouth water.
The smell was simply irresistible!
"I'll try it first!" I couldn't wait to scoop a spoonful of beef into my mouth. The taste was exquisite, truly a delicacy!
"It's delicious!" I couldn't help but exclaim. Canned food in this apocalypse was a hundred times better than before!
Or maybe it was just because I hadn't eaten for several days!
"I want some too!" Zhong Dali grabbed a can and began to devour it hungrily. Xie Yutong and Little Yu also took their cans and started eating slowly.
Just as we were enjoying our meal, suddenly, a piercing scream echoed from afar, followed by a chaotic sound of footsteps.
My heart sank; this was bad—zombies!
That damn scream must have attracted them from some poor soul!
"Run!" I shouted, grabbing the remaining cans and sprinting away.
Canned food is precious, but life is worth even more!
We ran desperately, the growls of the zombies closing in behind us, and I felt my heart racing.
This speed was insane!
"Wei Na," Zhong Dali gasped, "we... we can't escape!"
I turned back to see a large group of mutated zombies, covered in barbed spikes and with green, glimmering eyes, surging toward us. They were much faster than ordinary zombies, and there were far too many of them; we had no chance of getting away!
What the hell are those things?
Why do they look so grotesque?
"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath; it seemed today was not my day.
Just then, I suddenly remembered my golden finger—Soul Devouring Immunity Evolution!
Desperate times call for desperate measures!
I abruptly turned around and lunged at the nearest zombie, sinking my teeth into its neck.
A wave of rancid odor flooded my mouth, and I nearly retched, but I forced myself to swallow the zombie's blood despite the nausea.
The taste was truly indescribable!
A strange energy coursed through my body; I felt my strength and speed increasing, and my immunity to the zombie virus had also strengthened.
"Come on!" I shouted excitedly as I lunged at another zombie.
I continuously devoured the zombies, my strength growing stronger and my speed increasing. I felt like a beast, rampaging through the horde of undead.
Suddenly, a massive mutated zombie appeared before me, covered in spikes with glowing green eyes, looking exceptionally fierce.
Is this the zombie leader?
It looks terrifying!
A sense of dread washed over me; this mutated zombie was far more powerful than the ordinary ones, and I feared I wouldn't stand a chance against it.
Just as I was about to flee, I noticed Zhong Dali being knocked to the ground by a zombie, and it looked like he was about to be bitten.
"Dali!" I shouted, rushing forward without hesitation. I kicked the zombie away and pulled Zhong Dali up.
"Thanks, Wei Na!" Zhong Dali said gratefully.
"Stop talking and run!" I urged, dragging him along as we continued to escape.
At that moment, the enormous mutated zombie suddenly blocked our path.
"It's over!" I closed my eyes in despair.
