The next day, I was headed to school. Today was the day Xu Qiang was leaving. I didn’t know where he was going or when he would return. All I knew was that with his departure, we might never see each other again.
At eight-thirty in the morning, I arrived at the train station. I anxiously searched through the crowd for Xu Qiang’s figure but couldn’t find him anywhere. As the ticket gate was about to close, I still hadn’t seen him. Panic set in.
I stood there and shouted Xu Qiang’s name loudly. However, amidst the noisy crowd, no one responded to me. In that moment, my heart was filled with anger and sadness. How could he leave without saying goodbye? He didn’t even tell me where he was going or when he would come back! The more I thought about it, the angrier I became, and tears streamed down my face uncontrollably.
Just when I was about to despair, a hand suddenly grabbed my wrist. I looked up and saw Liu Lu.
Liu Lu was panting as she said, “Li Wan, Xu Qiang is over there!”
I followed the direction of her finger and finally spotted Xu Qiang. Without thinking much, I pushed Liu Lu aside and rushed towards Xu Qiang.
I ran up to him and without hesitation, hit him a few times. Xu Qiang was caught off guard and stood there in shock. Others around us quickly gathered to see what was happening.
Li Xun asked, “Li Wan, what are you doing?”
I glared at Xu Qiang and demanded, “Why did you leave without saying goodbye?”
“Why did you treat me like this?”
Xu Qiang looked at me but didn’t say anything. I bit my lip and urged him, “Say something!”
“Why did you do this?”
Xu Qiang lowered his gaze and murmured, “I’m sorry.”
“Li Wan, I’m sorry.”
Tears fell from my eyes.
"I don't want to hear 'I'm sorry.'"
"I just want to ask you, why did you do this?"
Xu Qiang sighed. "Li Wan, don't be sad."
"I'm only leaving for a little while."
"When I come back, I'll tell you everything."
I shook my head. "No, I want to know now."
Xu Qiang was silent for a moment before slowly saying, "Li Wan, I like you."
"I didn't want you to see me leave like this."
"I hope you can remember me at my best."
I was taken aback.
I stared at him, unsure of what to say.
Xu Qiang reached out and gently wiped the tears from my face.
He smiled and said, "Li Wan, I'm leaving now."
"Take care of yourself."
"Goodbye."
With that, he turned and walked into the station.
I watched his back as tears streamed down my cheeks.
Xu Qiang, please take care of yourself.
...
When I got home, I lay in bed, not wanting to move at all.
Cheng Wu walked in, looked at me, and sighed.
He sat on the edge of the bed and took my hand.
"Li Wan, don't be sad."
"Xu Qiang is just leaving temporarily."
"When he comes back, you two will still be together."
I didn't respond.
Cheng Wu continued, "Li Wan, you're tired. You should rest well."
"I brought you dinner; remember to eat it later."
I nodded and closed my eyes.
Cheng Wu gently closed the door behind him.
Lying in bed, my mind was filled with thoughts of Xu Qiang.
...
The next day, I took a day off and rested at home.
On the third day, I went to school on time for class.
On the fourth day, I reported to the company.
On the fifth day, I received a call from Cheng Wu.
Cheng Wu told me that Xu Qiang had contacted him.
Xu Qiang informed Cheng Wu that he was doing well out of town and that Cheng Wu shouldn’t worry.
He also mentioned that he would study hard there and strive to return as soon as possible.
When Cheng Wu shared this with me, I remained silent.
My mind was blank, and I couldn't recall anything at all.
Cheng Wu sighed, saying, "Li Wan, please don’t be like this."
"It pains me to see you this way."
I forced a smile, saying, "I’m fine."
"You don’t need to worry about me."
Cheng Wu looked at me and said, "Li Wan, if you’re feeling sad, just cry it out."
"Holding it in like this isn’t good for your health."
I smiled again, insisting, "I really am fine."
"I'm doing well."
Cheng Wu sighed again and didn’t say anything more.
